Title: What is everyone playing
Post by: Calia on October 22, 2009, 10:05:13 AM
So yeah I seem to be coming back from the dead again randomly with random questions and blurbs and than will prolly disappear as my mind dosnt seem to stay focused for very long though I will admit my last disappearance was because I was sick of computer games and was addicted to Fallout 3 on my 360 lol but anyways

So what is everyone playing these days I see topics on GW and Diablo 2 but was wandering if thats where everyone is hanging out at ^_^.

I have diablo 2 and have put in many many hours and am not overly looking to go back to the PvP enviroment it presents unless they have done somthing about hackers, hexors and so on and there is legit PvP some where.

I have no experiance at all with GW honistly stayed away from it because its title has me picturing it as alot of PvP action

I use to play WoW and may get back into it because I like questing raiding and you know doing things with the guild and such

So untill The Old Republic is released and seeing if its gonna be worth the purchase or not ( I hope so it is Bioware) I Tend to play games with my roomies right behind me which makes for a more intresting experince as to have empty soda bottles thrown at your head when you screw up ^_^ but would as like if there was anything out there that offers the RP experiance that seems to have died in all games since NWN

So what are ya playing out there and what keeps you playing  it ^_^

Guild Wars at the moment.

I plan to get Dragon Age, unless it totally bombs.

I don't play with these guys... they're a bunch of newbs.

Nah, actually I'm re-playing Warcraft III and expansion... it's been some time. My wife is re-playing Warcraft II and expansion. I got a list of re-plays I'm hoping to get to, but know I won't get to all of them for awhile. Age of Empires I, II, III, Empire Earth I, II, III and Age of Mythology.

Been in an RTS mood as of late. Otherwise I just play random shit, or I work on my website for awhile, or I'll make music for awhile... or who knows what else... sometimes I just get in TV moods and watch TV almost exclusively for a week or two... movies and such.

I'm seriously feeling like a music mood is going to be coming on though... found myself singing quite a bit the other day and my favorite band just released a new album which is fucking spectacular.

Plus I'm finding myself cheating my way through the Warcraft III expansion and I didn't cheat at all throughout all the campaigns in the original, so that means I'm starting to get bored of it. Let's see if I can force myself through the rest of it. In doing so, however, I may end my RTS mood... or it might already be too late. :D

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

Wolfenstein (The single player story rocks, the multiplayer is half-assed and worthless)

Diablo II USWest (though I do have East and Euro chars)

and of course, Legend of the Green Dragon (http://lucidmagic.net/index.php/topic,3221.0.html)

I also plan to get Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition for the 5 new DLC add ons. I played through Fallout 3 twice but I didn't want to pay for the DLCs. Oh, and I'll be playing StarCraft II when it comes out and I'll definitely check out multiplayer after I finish the single player campaign.

I was playing C9 but then it went p2p in korea and i couldnt play anymore >_<

Right now im playing S4 League and Valkyrie sky.

S4 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwZKKwcTnJE
Pretty much like a better version of gunz but without the glitched "styles" but with skills and different game modes, theres a mode that is pretty  much like rugby but with guns and swords.

Valkyrie sky - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW2p_aHPWzk
I think i already talked about this one months ago, now its open again.
vertical shooter mmo, with classes, skills, stats, loot, quests and all that.

Also i finished Resident Evil 5 and Mini Ninjas last month. And im waiting for kotor online aswell :p.

Guild Wars is very easy on system specs.  You'll play on the American server with everyone else in America.
Monks do have some offensive capabilities but they are quite limited.  You've got the rest down pretty well.  If you decide to buy you should get all the expansions which will include 4 more classes.

O.O 4 more classes the web site wasn't overly friendly on setup wise or classes though I am use to the WoW site where you can sit down and hammer out a char before even playing the game lol.

I'm gonna go check to also see what the specs are gonna be for GuildWars 2 zeeing as most will be moving over to that game when it is relased

I don't think GW2 will be out in under a year's time.

I could play gw again sometime, but like i told mo i studying again now so cant stay too long during week days, because when they usually come online its like almost midnight for me :p.

But it could be nice on weekends if we can be 5 instead of always the same 3ppl :p

I have a trial key for one of the expansions if you're interested.

As far as builds go for a class check GW PvX for ideas: http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
One of the things I didn't like about WoW was having to pay inorder to re-spec. In Guild Wars it's a matter of saving a template and switching to it when you want it.
Title: Re: What is everyone playing
Post by: Calia on October 23, 2009, 08:47:14 PM
Thats cool ^_^ yeah WoW though came out with a duel talen spec that you payed for once adn you could switch it and equipment on the fly which was great for classes like the druid so they could switch between DPS and Healing but pointless for Mages IMO as either way your DPS just depends on situations lol

gonna have to figure out what type of mage im gonna play
I tend to favor lightening or Ice ^_^ just because i like lightening and ice lol

-Calia

oh and I will think about gonna see if I can even get into it before i use up someones trial key ^_^

I have been keeping my Diablo 2 accounts active and still like to item hunt at least once a week. I will be getting a copy of Fallout 3 soon. I was bummed out last year that i couldnt buy it when it came out because I was too poor. But now the Game of the Year edition is up and i got a Best Buy gift card to burn on it! Been playing Legend of the Green Dragon as well. Mostly though it's still NWN for me. 420 and Throbblefoot have been adding a lot of new stuff to their server so I help them test frequently and sometimes just hang out. I also have been getting the hang of the Arelith server as well. For those who haven't tried it, its a pretty hard core RP. A bit over complicated so it takes some getting used to, but there are a lot of people playing it so its easy to just team up with some random stranger that you happen to bump into.
I nearly forgot I am also playing the new Tales of Monkey Island from Telltale Games.

Okie so I am playing Guildwars ^_^ and I enjoy it now I just need to learn the machanics of it I looked at the build page and sadly it makes no sense to me at all lol so im looking at two primary chars a monk and a Elemintalist now I know they can be mixed but wasnt sure if it was worth it or not so any suggestions would be awsome. I only have the first game goty edition atm ( didnt have enough money to get the trilodgy pack :( ) but i did net soem fancy items i guess and a imp lol for it ^_^

so yeah help me teach me ^_^

If you play monk you can go through the game fairly quickly with pick up groups but you'll be expected to play as a protect/healer monk.  The elementalist is straight up damage with mainly AOE spells.  I'd go for monk.  Monks make up 1/4 of all teams so they're always in demand.

Add Mo and me to your friends list we have a guild with a guild hall and leave your IGN so we can add you:  Erujuj Matterhorn + Lord Ribs

:D

I'll be on every now and then too, Calia.  I haven't gotten on too much since starting college, but if I'm on I'll be glad to lend a hand.  Just add Elessar Telrunya to your buddy list.  I have a ranger still early on in the game, so I can help get you through parts with her too.

I will be off and on through out the day's and such I work allot at night (3:00p.m. to 12:00 a.m.EST) so my times are gonna be a bit odd until I get use to that

Plus I'm looking at going back to school as soon as I can figure out what to do with my life :S sad it seems like the military and jr. high schools are the only place that still offer some type of aptitude testing so im suffering with where to direct my knowledge as random and some slightly useless random knowledge that I may possess

So yeah may be on some today I'm exhausted and may just veg. out if you see me on msn rather it be via my 360 shoot me a quick IM chances are im laying on the couch watching a movie or something of that nature but would like to get on to met up with some one :)

That's funny Mo I keep missing you by 12 hours.  I whispered Calia but you didn't respond.  I'll be on tonight and tomorrow but not Wednesday.

Oh and Calia there's not much we can do to help you until you get out of Pre-Searing, the tutorial area where you start, unless we make a new character.  But to expedite that area just do the quest to gain a second class, pick a second class and then talk to the NPC near the gate in the city.  If you're going monk, elementalist is a good secondary because of its energy management skills.
Title: Re: What is everyone playing
Post by: Elessar Telrunya on October 26, 2009, 10:07:30 AM
I prefer monk/mesmer, but whatever, and I wouldn't recommend rushing through the tutorial area.  If you get as much experience as you can there, it'll make the rest of the game much easier to handle.  You should be able to get at least to level six if you do most of the quests available.

Chances are I didn't even see the whisper lol still getting use to the setup and what not I will try to be on msn next time so you can buzz me there to get my attention lol

I was torn between Monk/Mesmer and Monk Elem the issues im seeing though is I dont fully understand how to gain new spells and such short of talking to random trainers all over the place which than makes it difficult for me to know where to put my skill points ( Calliandra my elem starts has flare and such but I enjoy lightening and ice spells in most games so me putting points into them seems pointless as i have no knowledge of when those spells will become avilable to me)

as for my monk which will rapidly become my main char because I just love the look and well feel of the char I guess I could cross to Elem for energy managment unless  I find something really neat about mesmer I dont completely understand how the 2 profession thing works because I have not yet taken on so I supose that will become clearer as I play more I should be on more tomorrow October 27 2009 :P some time during the daytime and maybe at night as well I have played through alot of the starting area if I wuld only reach level 6 as I am now level 5 with half a bar to go to 6!

When you get out of the tutorial area, you'll get a lot of skills through quests, so I wouldn't recommend spending tons of skill points on buying skills at trainers unless you know you can't get it via a quest (gw wiki (http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page) is very helpful in figuring this out - just look up the skill and it will tell you if it can be acquired in a quest or not in Prophecies), because that way you won't have to pay so much later when you have to use skill points to buy Signets of Capture to get elite skills.
Title: Re: What is everyone playing
Post by: Meclar on October 26, 2009, 09:19:56 PM
Elessar's right.  Keep the skill points that you have and gain the skills through quests.  As far as the attribute points (not skill points) those can be rearranged whenever you go to a town or outpost so it's not that you're putting those points into the spell itself.  Later on in the game, 3/4 of the way, you'll be able to take quests that will allow you to gain other secondary classes so that's WAY down the road but you do need to pick one secondary class while you're in the tutorial area.
skill points press H
attribute points press K
You gain each when you level up, until level 20, after 20 you'll only gain skill points.  You use skill points to buy other skills from skill trainers (along with gold).  I think the first skill trainer is in Yaks Bend in the northern Shiverpeaks.  You probably won't get there until level 11-15 so just save up those skill points until you get there and then spend them towards a build you'd like to play.
Oh, also there are two quests that will reward you with a total of 30 attribute points but again that's 3/4 of the way into the game.
My war has spent 408 skill points out of 693 . That's a lot of level ups.  :D

Later on in the game, 3/4 of the way, you'll be able to take quests that will allow you to gain other secondary classes

I don't think those quests exist anymore.  Once you're level 20 you can change to any secondary for 500 gold at the temple of Balthazar.

They still exist - in fact, you must still complete one of them to get fifteen of the remaining thirty attribute points, I believe.

Pfft, obviously a lame attempt to sell a game by trying to release an inferior version of a similar genre before the actual game comes out: Rage (http://www.rage-game.com/home.action)

Playing Borderlands on PC, that Rage game looks good but its just an action game with cars, Borderlands is more like a post apocaliptic parody and its RPG, you lvl up, you have skill points and classes and the maps and weapons are ramdom generated with stats and such, with rares and all, pretty much like diablo 2 loot.

The only thing in common is that theyre FPS and have cars kinda.
Though ill be getting Rage too looks good.

lol funny.  Anyway I'd rather play checkers than game on an SDTV.  It's amazing how much you lose on those resolutions.  PCs still in my mind offer the best gaming experience, and so far Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 are both superior on PCs (not to mention $20 cheaper).  Also, I saw Bioshock 2 on PS3 and even at 1080p I was unimpressed with the graphics.  On PC, Bioshock 1 was much nicer looking.
Title: Re: What is everyone playing
Post by: Soul Sojourner on February 15, 2010, 01:25:41 AM
To be honest, I'm unimpressed by the graphics of a lot of games on PS3 in comparison to PC as well as Xbox 360.

I'll most likely get Mass Effect 2 for the 360. Partially because I have the first one for it, and it would therefore be fitting. Not for certain yet though as the hacking and modding opportunities on PC are downright tempting no matter what game it is.

And quite frankly, nothing beats a good old fashioned game like checkers, Mo.
I recently bought Super Scrabble; like Scrabble except nearly twice the board size, twice the pieces, and a grid that holds the pieces in place. Slick eh?

Nah, I almost never play by points. If points make a game unfun; remove them, or find a different way to score. ;)

I haven't really been playing any video games much. Some N64 games on emulator on and off; currently Super Mario 64. Mainly been doing random stuff, apart from reading and making random images the past few days.

I spent a weekend at a cabin where there was this guy who spent a large amount of his childhood in a hospital playing Scrabble. He schooled me about what constitutes a "word" in the Scrabble dictionary. I never played again after that.

However, I just found out that a second S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sequel was released, it's an actual sequel to the original game story instead of being a prequel like the first... uh... sequel.

Final Fantasy XIII on PS3.

I've got to say that although the production value is top notch which as the norm for FF this "game" plays more like an interactive movie.  After watching cut scene after cut scene then there are instances where I'm forced to take control and walk my way through the uber-linear levels, I almost wish the game would just have an auto-pilot button. .  There's never been a larger difference between console RPGs and computer RPGs
Title: Re: What is everyone playing
Post by: Soul Sojourner on March 13, 2010, 02:42:05 PM
And you know, linear can be some pretty bad-ass play, but it's gotta have some moderation. Really, I love linear and non-linear RPG's alike, but you can only get so non-linear and so linear before you ruin the game by taking it too far to one extreme.

I've heard others say the same about this game; I think Final Fantasy should have it's final fantasy and move on. Of course, they're still going to milk it for all it's worth.

Funny, I felt the exact same way about FF 7.

Really, I love linear and non-linear RPG's alike, but you can only get so non-linear and so linear before you ruin the game by taking it too far to one extreme.

Yes I agree.  For example Oblivion was on the non-linear extreme and I've got to tell you I got a little fed up with it about 2 hours in.  I wanted to complete a certain quest but it appeared that only a rogue would be able to properly do it and I was a warrior, however there was no indication either way and I was a little at a loss.  FFXIII is the other extreme.

IMO Bioware gets it just right.  Dragon Age is exactly where I want to see games.  The only problem I have with Dragon Age is that it should be twice as long.  Baldur's Gate 2 hit it on all cylinders of course.  I played BG2 for about 200 hours, including Throne of Bhaal.  Watcher's Keep is still my favorite side quest ever, man that was awesome.  Speaking of BG, it's funny to play Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 and notice all the nods to BG.  An optional boss in DA has the same name as one in BG only spelled backwards.  In Mass Effect 2 you can buy a pet space hamster for your quarters hehe.  There are a few others too.

@420, FFVII is not nearly as linear as XIII because there are a lot of side quests.  but I understand your point.  Just about all FF games are linear.  VIIs saving grace when it comes to game play (story and characters are obviously top notch) is that there's like 70-80 hours of fun game play and character building in that game and some really cool super-boss fights.

I personally like Oblivion but I definitely agree with you that it is in the non-linear extreme. I think there has to be a few linear and non-linear extremes to satisfy certain players, but for most players a good moderation between the two is required. I agree with you that Dragon Age hit the nail on the head, my problems with the game were unrelated to this issue. It was simply holding my interest that was the problem, nothing more.

----Oblivion Rant----
However, I don't understand your quest issue with Oblivion. In most Elder Scrolls games, quests can be put off and in many cases have to be until you are more suited to accomplish them. However, being more combat oriented over stealth is even more trivial in Oblivion than all of it's predecessors, as picking locks and sneaking isn't quite as limited as it was in previous games. You can pick any lock at any time no matter your security skill, whereas in Morrowind, many locks had to wait until you had the proper pick, the proper skill level, or the proper spell and the ability in which to cast it.

There is a quest most people find early on, which is finding out where a suspicious shopkeeper is getting his merchandise and how he is selling it for so cheap. You're supposed to follow him and find out where he goes and then witness a meeting between him and another individual. If this is the quest you're referring to, it doesn't require stealth whatsoever. You don't even have to sneak to follow him, just keep your distance. When the meeting take place, you actually have to run up to them where you're in plain sight for them to commence, and they act like you're not even there. lol.

Regardless, I understand what you mean about it's non-linearity, but in regards to class limitations, it is just as non-linear. All major skills do is level you up and increase a little faster than the rest. I usually make a custom class, I always favor luck, because it's the hardest to increase. As a second choice, endurance is good because it determines health gained when leveling, so higher earlier is better, but strength means more loot to carry, etc. I also ignore my favorite skills and pick the hardest ones to level. That allows me to build up higher multipliers before leveling, as I favor non-major skills and the major skills increase slower due to being naturally harder to increase, and less used by me. For instance, although I use armorer frequently, it is harder to increase because you need damaged equipment in order to do so. Because of that, I almost always have armorer as a major skill.

Hmm I don't really like that idea because I do quests as soon as I get them.  Unless the game makes it pretty obvious that I need to wait to do the quest, I'll tend to waste a lot of time trying to figure it out.

I finished Mass effect 2 a bit more than a week ago with an infiltrator>Assassin being nice (Paragon route), now i started again with a renegade vanguard, Shepards face got full of scars and his eyes turned bright red lol, btw the new charge skill is just great fun :o

I like to do that as well, although, if you can't you can't. A quest I did in Oblivion took me days because I'd go so far in, get close to leveling or have too much loot, leave, sell it, build multipliers, level, go back, repeat. Finally I beat the quest after having to leave the dungeon over and over to go level or sell loot. The final time, monsters had re-spawned and some chests were restocked. Making it more difficult, but I finally got it. Quite a pain in the ass, that leveling. I could only wish for an easy mode that automatically awards you a +5 multiplier in all abilities except luck every time you level, so I could enjoy the game more and nitpick about leveling less. lol

SPOILER WARNING

That is inaccurate.  If you want to maintain the story you are to create a new char who is a Grey Warden from Orlais.  However Bioware gives you the option to break the story and use your dead warden if you really want to.  The reason there is no explanation is because there is no reason to explain as it is not part of the intended story.

That is from the dev interview I read.

It's a wee bit insane, mate. I did find it a bit ridiculous getting my ass kicked by the few light mechs you fight right in the beginning area of the game with a level 30 character. lol.

There may be down the road, but I doubt it. It mentions right in the game that there will be a Mass Effect 3 though, and you even get to see what you're up against; the Reapers.

Legion shocked the hell out of me on the first go... seeing as I played through the first one and imported my character. (which is awesome as hell, by the way.) I believe I said "What the fuck!?" when I originally saw him snipe an enemy. I'm not mentioning details cause of spoilers, though. I miss the Mako. The hammerhead is awesome, but you barely get to use it.

If you have yet to play the first one, I still recommend it. It's awesome that the game changes based on your actions in the first one, and even starts you off with extra stuff based on your level and wealth, etc. It says you'll be able to import your Mass Effect 2 character into 3 as well, so mine will have been carried over twice. Excellent.

I just finished Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Throbbblefoot is now playing through it. I'm playing Brink, though after putting around 280 hours into it in 3 months I'm sort of burned out, but I'm sure I'll go back to it. Once Throbblefoot finishes Deus Ex I'm going to buy Rage. I thought about pre-ordering Rage but the exclusive content is kinda lame for a single player game.

EDIT: Also, Throbblefoot and I are keeping our fingers crossed hoping to get into the Diablo III closed beta test that's going on RIGHT NOW!

I tried Rage, but it has some issues with the drivers, id software blames both nvidia and amd drivers but even if thats true they should have tested the game with the current available drivers before the release. Most players are now in "rage" because they cant play :p. Some get very lagged texture load, others get fps spikes every 5 secs, others dont even get any texture and for others the game doesnt even run. Seems the game is a total mess.

I installed the latest amd drivers that are "supposed" to fix Rage issues but still got the lagged texture load like in the youtube video below. The game was released a few days ago and already has a 1gb patch (while the game is already 20gb, 25gb installed) which i havent tried yet. But seems it still gives the same errors.

Seems we have to wait for a real fix.

Hm, I don't think I'll be playing Rage for awhile.(Not because of ^ but rather because I usually wait a few years before I buy a game. Like a few weeks ago I bought the first Sims game.)

As for what I've been playing...Trying out Age Of Empires Online. It seems pretty awesome, till about 15 minutes into the game...and it crashes...and shuts down my laptop. I've still been playing CoD: Black Ops, and I have been considering playing the campaign for a while now, and probably will soon enough, until I hit a mission where I keep dying over and over again...and give up...

Yes i applied that patch, but the game is not 100% fixed, seems its stucked at lower res settings after the patch and theres no graphic options to change it but at least i can play.
Theres minor freezes sometimes but nothing too bad to keep me from playing yet.

To me it feels like an unfinished game no matter how much Id Software tries to take the blame on AMD and Nvidia for their drivers.... Still a good game so far though

This is very disconcerting to me because the business model of ID Software has always been:
I don't know what the fuck happened to ID that made them sell their company to ZeniMax but it seems Rage may have been a major fuck up.

Dont get me wrong the game is actually pretty good, when you CAN actually play... its just they messed up the release because most players have to go out of their way to "fix" the game before being able to play.

I read somewhere that Rage uses the latest OpenGL Graphics and that both Nvidia and AMD have outdated OpenGL drivers since barely any game used it anymore (something like that), and thats why Id Software is trying to take the blame on them.

But i think they should have done more testing with the actual released drivers... Instead of releasing a game without any working drivers for it...

It's unacceptable that a game is released in a state that requires players to patch shit to fix it.  This is a big knock against PC gaming as compared to console gaming.

There was also a problem with old OpenGL on newer video cards. In NWN, on my new rig (nVidia GTX 460 SE), I got a horrible frame rate until nVidia released their 280.19 Beta drivers and that fixed it. I'm glad I've kept all of Throbble's and my old computers for all the different OS and video/sound cards so we can always play the old games if we want.

It's unacceptable that a game is released in a state that requires players to patch shit to fix it.  This is a big knock against PC gaming as compared to console gaming.
There have been a few games that patched the day of release (Diablo II for instance) but ID Software has no excuse. Their company is known for releasing well-polished, single-player, FPS games and, according to my friend on Steam, Rage required a 1GB patch but as Tyrael put it, "the game is not 100% fixed". D'oh!

Well, if you do get RCT 3 make sure you get the patch that allows you to enable RCT1/2 physics so you can import your custom tracks. Otherwise they won't behave properly.

Unfortunately, even after they made that optional fix, RCT 3's campaign wasn't playable. I was used to having the option to charge a huge entry fee to the park and make all the rides free. They take that option away from you in RCT 3... D'oh! The only real cool thing is being able to view the roller-coaster you design in first person 3D graphics.

I've heard of them planning the release of a 4th installment and Atari actually asked customers what they thought would make them go out and buy it on the spot, and any must have features. Like 99% of people were concurrent on the grid removal. Were they actually to release one with that and some of the other features people had come up with that would be quite sweet, however, it appears that 4 is more or less going to exist as Rollercoaster Tycoon 3DS which is going to be supposedly exclusive. Non-PC? Seriously? What the fuck.

Hopefully, they have a real #4 in the making or are actually planning on releasing the new one for PC.

Hell yeah, I want RCT3, but I have so many other 'new' games and so many coming... my god.

I have a shit ton from GoG yet to play, DLC for games on the 360 I bought while on sale, but haven't played yet cause I haven't got back to the game yet. Fable III currently, as I just got from Gamefly Yesterday, need to finish SEVERAL others. Some I just have shit I want to do it in, but the game is beat, for instance, Assassin's Creed 1, I want to go back and collect all the flags, I did some of it recently, but I want to finish it and replay the game sometime soon too.

Other games, I got stuff I'd like to do in them, but don't want to at all. Like Borderlands, I played the shit out of the DLC on playthrough 1 and shit, but never finished playthrough 2 (of the actual game, not just dlc) and any time I think about playing it at all I simply can't stand the thought of it. lol. I over-played it. :P

I've only got 4, and from what I read...It doesn't make a difference. But 64bit is causing me issues. Soooo many games I cannot play because of it. Half the time, it won't even let me install them! I got Star Wars Old Republic for Christmas so I am on that now for at least 3 months. Then I will decide if I want to cough up my own cash to keep playing. Not too bad as far as RPGs go. I don't get much of a sense of urgency or real accomplishment for quests, though after 4 days I am still in the prologue. Visually its pretty weak. I know its an MMO and so it cuts down on the graphics to ensure better playability but a little texture and shading would be nice. It looks like NWN 2 on low settings. I'll post more about it later If anyone is interested.

heheh yes I'm playing with a few mods.  Nighttime mod, water mod, Tree and floral mod.  Don't think I'm going to install full texture replacements.

Anyway, the graphics are very nice, I'm not complaining.  Not state of the art, but I have a 5 year old system already.  I haven't fast traveled anywhere lol. Yes I'm hardcore, I walk and ride back and forth.

How is Kingdoms? Got mediocre reviews.  All saying that the story sucks but the action and everything else is very fun.  I think it's something I will want to check out if I ever get out of Skyrim.

Soon anticipating, both those as well.

I really enjoyed Kingdom. The story was good in my opinion. But I'm a huge fan of the writer.

So far I got mixed feelings about it. I am, for whatever reason, addicted to Sims 3 and thus my attention has been divided between the two and life keeps getting in the way as well... lol.

I see mixed elements from multiple titles clearly evident in Kingdoms. For certain I can say that locks and wards are ridiculous and the method by which you open locked or warded chests is simplistic, boring, and utterly disappointing. Of course, this is after having played Oblivion and Two Worlds II, where the lockpicking minigame in each is actually pretty cool.

I tried the CB of Tera last weekend, It feels like a real time Aion, you have a crosshair and you attack with the left mouse button and can dodge/block attacks with the right mouse besides the usual skills on quickslots.

Its actually a good game but I dont know if I will get it because Im also in the CB of Continent of the Ninth (C9), which is also real time action with combos and stuff but much more fast paced, though C9 will be free2play and like 90% of the time they turn to pay2win and i stop playing them :o

Put a fucking shit-ton of hours into Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. About 170 at least and still have two whole regions left. Did over 200 quests. Took a break from that, and been playing the Blackguard mods for Neverwinter Nights, about my third time playing these ones. Great mods. Learned about a game called Terraria which was enough to finally get me to make a Steam account, following which got addicted to the little pointless fucker and can't stop playing it. I recommend this bitch! It's 10 fucking dollars and will consume your life, which is great. Also playing a little Trine here and there, which is a sweet little side-scroller I bought off of GOG.com. Go there. Do it.

You'll need at least 1280MB of VRAM to run the [my] game :P

But the 'Highly Recommend' and the Steamworkshop are very nice to have. Especially if you use Hypothermia* or any other "Needs" mods. Its nice to be freezing and find a Ranger Cabin not to far from you.

Would also say that the CBBE mod is very nice to have. For some reason Beth cheaped out on the female model :\

The Game is very nice with real time combos and stuff, I've posted some trailers of it in the previous page.

Here's a look at the Arch Angel armor my sniper has now.  She's also packing a plasma sniper rifle. The jet pack looks cool and it lets you hover high over the battle giving you eyes on lots of targets. Just make sure you take them out before they get close enough to shoot at you as you don't have any cover when flying. Looks pretty cool but I miss the blue accents of her previous armor.

Playing Civ V now thanks to Mo. Considerably improved upon since Civ 4, and better than Civ 3.
It does feel as though the boredom is finally settling in, but I've been through a whole game and a few partial games so far when I typically don't have the patience to finish one.

How could you be bored already?  Did you get the expansion as well?  Adds more depth with religion and espionage.

Got the game of the year addition with all of the dlc addons and the expansion as well.

It's called repetition. It bores me quickly. ;) But I'm still playing, I just don't know for how long.

I played the Polynesians for a night during the tut, also played an archipelago as Egypt, man they kick ass. Then I played a larger game with a huge map and continents as the Incans, and they were pretty cool, but the terrace farm wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be and Nobunaga (Japan) was being a dick. I started out with a continent all to myself with two natural wonders *both mountains* and two city states on the southern tip. (one culture one maritime) Pretty sweet set up, I thought. But that fuckhead Nobunaga kept trying to settle on my continent for 200 turns. I played an epic length game and spent 200 turns sending units to block coastlines and building cities where he wanted them to keep him off of my shit. lol. In the end I had my own continent and won a cultural victory narrowly before Egypt got a science one. They were way ahead in tech and kept hoarding the wonders, even though I still had more altogether from the early game. Now I am playing a quick paced smaller game with archipelago's again. This time using Russia, who seems to be pretty sweet so far.

I fully intend to make my next game have a lot of rainfall and be very wet to produce a lot of marshland, and then play as the dutch where I can polder everything. lol. My spell checker says polder isn't a word and neither is archipelago. Hmm... It's correction of "Nobunaga" is "Bungalow." Wow.

Thats why the game doesnt get boring for me.  Each new game develops into this crazy story line (duh world history).  Last game I played, I was trying to be as peaceful as possible, trying never to go to war against anyone.  I had Spain to my east and Germany to my West.  Even though we were both expanding Spain and I were able to become fast friends.  But those damn Germans...backstabbed me twice!  So I ended up warring with Germany for many years.  I liberated Shonghai who'm he had conquered previously.  Later on in the game I noticed he started attacking Shonghai again...man that pissed me off...Germans were such warmongers...So I declared war on him and didnt stop until I nuked Berlin into submission.  Then won a cultural victory.  So much for being peaceful the whole way.  I was the Byzantines.

last time I won  Civ game was Civ 3. I played the Celts. Managed to get Magnetisim first and found an unsettled continent. So to keep everyone else off it until I could put my own people on it I made a blockade of privateer ships that could attack anything without triggering war. Ended as a cultural victory.

That's one thing I really miss about Civ 3, privateer's being a ship with no stated nationality. You could attack your foes without them knowing it's you. Wish they worked like that in Civ 5.

My problem is that I am meticulous and have to try extra hard to sway from my usual strategy, and when things don't go my way, it get's dull and tedious trying to sort it out differently.

The thing that is really nice about Civ 5, is the biased startup option. It doesn't leave a culture reliant on forests and jungle stuck starting in the desert.

Later on in the game I noticed he started attacking Shonghai again...man that pissed me off...Germans were such warmongers...So I declared war on him and didnt stop until I nuked Berlin into submission.
This statement gave Throbble and I a good laugh this morning.

Actually they have some cool benefits in 5. Also has one of the latest civ specific units, being the Panzer. Though still upgraded quickly, at least towards the end of the game. (usually)

The inca's sucked because their slinger replaces the archer, the very first ranged unit in the game and even on epic length it didn't last long. I fully intend to play marathon at some point though, the ages just don't last long enough, but also, epic just made *everything* take longer, which was disappointing. What I want is for everything to move just as quickly as standard, with the exception of scientific advancement. That way your units actually last more than a few turns before you have to upgrade them again, and you can actually spend some time in each era before moving on. Scientific advancements with the introduction of new buildings, units, and improvements would be far more meaningful.

Doesn't make much sense.  Science victory would be neigh impossible if everything moved fast save for tech.  Marathon sounds crazy...each age will be around 200 turns... yikes.

Half the time I shut them all off sept' for domination. Yeah, but it's no fun though if they just make everything take longer. You're not getting more time to do anything, you're just spending more time doing the same things.

So the fix for that problem is to make everything take longer except Production.  Production should take longer but it shouldn't scale as much as everything else.

I suppose I could live without growth, but I hate waiting 10 turns for a fucking tile improvement. But yes, in theory, production would be the primary thing.

The local broadcast TV station that used to show The Simpsons twice a day, every day, stopped showing The Simpsons all together. And, even though I own the first 12 seasons, the 20th season, and the movie on DVD, I'm still lacking my usual Simpsons fix. So, I decided to dig deep into my pile of game CD's and pulled out this gem from 2003:

The Simpsons: Hit & Run
(http://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q387/CEP420/SimpsonsHampRFrostillicus_zpsdc88dd3c.jpg)

I had a bit of trouble installing it. The second CD needed to be cleaned. And to run it in Windows 7 I have to use Windows 98/ME compatibility mode and check off the boxes next to "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition".

When this game first came out I completed everything and unlocked the special Itchy and Scratchy movie. But I never got to see it because on my second play-through I couldn't complete the side mission that unlocked Cletus' truck and I got frustrated and stopped playing the game for 10 years. This morning I was able to complete what I think is the most difficult mission in the game:

Back in the mid 90s Throbble and I would meet our friends at a local bowling alley for some bowling and beer, then after the game four of us would go play The Simpsons arcade game (which was basically just a re-skin of Capcom's TMNT, X-Men, Captain Commando, etc. arcade engine).

Last night I downloaded Bioshock: Infinite and played a bit today. Amazing graphics and my paranoia is already turned up to 11 so I expect some really epic shit to go down. But for now, look at the humming bird!

I finished the new Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite recently, both very good.
And even though in terms of gameplay I liked Tomb Raider more, have to say Bioshock Infinite has an epic storyline.

Right now im playing Warframe, pretty fun.

I just started playing the original bioshock a little while ago. I'm loving it! The gameplay and the aesthetic are awesome.

I've also been playing Age of Empires II again since they released the HD edition. That's a nice bit of nostalgia right there. I've dipped my toes into the multiplayer a bit. It's crazy how quickly some of these people accumulate wealth and go through the ages. I always feel like I'm spending too much on research that I don't need. I almost always end up with the highest research count! I don't think I've ever won a game through military conquest though, I always win by holding relics or building a wonder and just defending.

I'm not playing much of anything right now. I've occasionally played some NWN 1 and 2. But since my most recent workweek has been over 60 hours, I'm just relaxing and doing some minor stuff on the computer lol.

I haven't been able to find a game that holds my attention as well. So I guess, I'm just in a transition period. :P

Just downloaded Mass Effect 3 for $20.  Gonna get started on that.  Taking a break from Civ5 while waiting for it's next expansion.  Gonna grab AoE 2 HD soon, had a lot of fun with the original way back when.  Jumping into D3 for some mindless action.

Will likely grab Bioshock and Tomb Raider both when they hit the Steam discount bin.  The original Bioshock bored me to tears but I willgive the 3rd one a shot since I hear the story is too good to miss out on.  As for Tomb Raider, well I've tried to get into that series many times over the years but none of them really grabbed me.

Path of Exile and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 both pretty consistently.

Also playing a little Wanted: Weapons of Fate here and there, had a buddy tell me about it years ago, saying it was actually pretty good for being made after a movie, but so far I'm unimpressed. We'll see.

I played the previous tomb raiders aswell but yeah most of them were pretty boring after a bit, the only one I actually finished was Tomb Raider Legend i think.
The new Tomb Raider to be honest I though it was more of the same and that I wasnt going to like it much but its a complete reboot, completely different from the previous ones.
The gameplay was very well done and the new Lara felt more real, as in the weak girl trying to survive.

This is the trailer that won me over for Tomb Raider.

I'm pretty sure I'm incapable of a military victory in Age of Empires II. I literally just gave up on a game because an enemy computer had completed a wonder before me, and I wouldn't be able to clear a path to the wonder before the clock ran out. This is probably why I play healers in other games...

Just got this for my smart phone: The Simpsons: Tapped Out (http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/categories/show/233.page)

I'm a huge Simpsons fan (ie all the TV DVDs, the trivia game, animal crackers, and the limited edition Homer-O's cereal) so this is a natural time sink for me. You get to design Springfield from the ground up, after Homer blows it up of course, and it's full of new sound bites and the HD graphics are amazing.

Its a bit hard to understand the endgame story as its all voiced over by an alien who sounds like a tracheotomy patient trying to use mouthwash. Was a fun game even though it's kinda short. Try GOG. Since it's not super old, it may be pricier, but wait for it to come on sale. Then you don't have to worry about what version of windows you're on.

Happened the same to me with KOTOR since its old, its max resolution is 1280x1024 but theres a program named Flawless Widescreen that mods it up to 1920x1080, removes the black bars and adjusts the hit boxes to new resolution.

Edit: Just checked the game list in that program but Rollercoaster Tycoon is not in it :o... but maybe theres a similar one around for it.

Did you try "Wolfenstein"? Came out in 2009. Classic ID FPS with some really amazing graphics. You can get the PC version on Amazon for $52.41 or the Xbox 360 for $29.98.

ID Software's most recent FPS, "Rage", costs $8 on Amazon for the PC version. You can probably guess what my opinion of this game is...

Also, If you don't mind third person shooters you may want to check out "Saints Row: The Third". It's the only game that I've played that made me laugh the entire way through. Very entertaining. And if you like it "Saints Row IV" just came out.

Finally, Throbblefoot has been playing "Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition", because we never got a chance to check out all the DLCs. (Some other game came out that distracted us, I forget which.)

When you get Saints Row 4 make sure you also get the GAT V DLC. It's got a Gatling gun that shoots Bowie knives. It's my favorite weapon. I've played all the way through twice and I'm currently working on completing all the challenges and getting all the achievements. If you see me on Steam I'd be up for some co-op anytime.

Neverwinter and Diablo 3 are the only multiplayer online games I'm playing right now, and I'm not playing much of either because no one else is on. I'm hoping the upcoming expansion will bring people back to Diablo 3, but that won't come out until next year.

I was thinking about Star Trek Online, you get your own ship.

Other than that I don't see any new games coming out in the near future that I want to play.

Try Path of Exile (http://www.pathofexile.com/), it's an arpg like Diablo. A lot of creativity can be put into making your builds and crafting items. Full release is coming in 17 days with a 7th character class, new skills new quests and much more. Best part is, it's free to play and there's no "pay-to-win" just cosmetic microtransactions. :)

Throbbblefoot is currently playing a game called "The Stanley Parable", and I've been watching.

It's a bit of a mind fuck which I am always into. Throbble's played through it four times now and it's just getting weirder because each time you play through you learn more about what's going on. So, beating the game is extremely easy, but figuring out what the hell is happening requires multiple playthroughs. Different decisions may or may not produce different results.

So, the storyline: You are Stanley, an office worker who shows up to work one day and notices that the office building is entirely empty. There is no combat, there are no NPCs, and there is definitely no jumping! The only thing there is, is a narrator who tells the story of Stanley and all you have to do to win the game is follow the narrators directions...

Throbble and I decided the closest comparison would be the game Obsidian: Obsidian TV Commercial on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqC_iBYEyHM)

The Stanley Parable is available for $14.99 on Steam.

I tried the new Neverwinter game and found it disappointing. The overall artwork isn't what I'm looking for combined with the lack of control over, well, control, like not being able to zoom the camera and having to use alt to toggle the ability to interact with my interface.  The interface has so much going on and yeah I know I can customize it  - but they also throw in the art elements to further clutter it.

Oh I should mention that when I tried to log in, nothing happened.  I searched online and found that I had to open the game from my Program Files directly.  Then when I filled the two free character slots I wanted to see how much a new slot would cost and yet again when I clicked on the "buy character slot" nothing happened.

And why put me into Neverwinter right away?  It was driving me nuts that there were so many people and I'm trying to find my way through the city with no clue as to what was worth interacting with on top of the laggy connection (I know it's not the developers problem) but the intensity of all the graphics didn't help.

I'm not sure if it's an incongruity issue or not but I noticed that the tutorial brought me to the outside entrance of the city, then entering the gate put me well beyond the entrance of the city.

Part of it is already knowing (from playing other MMORPGs) that there's so much to interact with, there's so much crafting material and weapons and mechanics that it's just overwhelming to dump it all on the player at what seems like all at once.

Yet all that I did enjoy playing the control wizard.  The frost effect was cool combined with the teleport ability to craftily dodge away from that huge boss on the bridge in the tutorial and guess what happens?  The fucker turned and ran from me and instantly healed back to 100% wtf...

Yeah, the game was garbage unfortunately. They should have just made a NWN 3. And it should have went back to Bioware so it would have been done correctly.

Throbble and I stopped playing Neverwinter once we made it through the main storyline. I don't even remember what the storyline was but we never got to fight the main bad guy (female lich). Not sure what that was all about. And we never tried any of the big dungeons because it requires a "full party" of however many people.

When the various expansions were released (Feywild etc.) we didn't even bother to look at them.

I still log in once a day to invoke and I use the phone app interface to level my crafters but that's just because I'm OC.

I got Borderlands 2 GotY for Christmas so that's what I'm playing right now.

NWN is basically a cookie cutter MMORPG which is a gaming model I do not find very fun for very long.

I've been playing League of Legends and Civ 5 recently.

I have recently beat Xcom pre-expansion on classic but can't get the achievement because the game crashes before the final cutscene. Need to see about a work around for it as I went into the last fight lacking a few of usual end stats and gear for my team.
I have a method for the final area that has not failed yet not including game crashes. Have 2 Squad Sight, Double Tap snipers behind the last barricade. Move one soldier up to the corner of the first platform beyond the door to spot the Uber Etherial and activate the penultimate cutscene.  Then kill that Uber with sniper shots. The second shot from the first sniper usually back fires but that is why you have another sniper to finish the job.

D'oh! I've been having a problem with Borderlands 2 crashing. I suspect it's the sound card since I updated the video drivers yesterday and that didn't help. I'm going to switch from my old Sound Blaster Xfi to the motherboard sound card and see if that helps.

Throbble was also having a problem with Fallout 3 and it turned out to be related to the Sound Blaster card... I suspect the age of Sound Blaster had passed.

I didn't find that last encounter overly difficult.  Just lure the enemy troops out of there and blast them as they come chasing you through the door.

I have played some of the expansion.  It adds a little extra content, as in new missions but the game is the same as pre-expansion.  You start from the beginning and go through the same overall mission.  They also added lots of new skills and weapons and voices and such.  Overall I think it's a good expansion, especially if you haven't played the base game.

League of Legends, is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) or DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) if one prefers.  I think it's currently the most popular computer game, especially when considering competitive play.

It's a PvP game where you control one character (hero or champion as they are referred to) out of a team of 5.  The objective is to destroy the enemy base.  Each champion and there are well over 100 of them have 4 base skills and abilities that can be augmented by purchasing items during each match.

Anyway it's fun but has a very high learning curve.  It is not an easy game to play.  It's also the most watched "e-sport".  Where competitions and tournaments are watched by a lot of people.  For example, the World Championship was played in LA at the Staples Center and they sold the place out.  I was pretty shocked.  Obviously Koreans won it hehe

I got this cool app for my Android smart phone called "Loot the World" and it lets you scan UPC codes and QR codes that then generate an item for Borderlands 2 based on an algorithm. If you like the item you can transfer it into the game. So far I haven't found any really good items but if I do I'll post the products here. Because the item is based on the code itself, scanning the same code will produce an identical item.

Anyway, it's turned out to be quite the party favor as people in bars and restaurants will start handing me anything with a bar code on it to see what I get.

Started trying out Elsword the other day. It's a free to play mindless side-scroller beat-em-up where you play a big eyed, androgynous anime moppet who has to smash up a bunch of silly pokemon style baddies with a bunch of combination attacks to impress the upper classmen. The combo attacks are not unlike trying to play Gunz K-style without programming macros. I'm starting to get the hang of the basics now but every time you start a new char it resets your keyboard to default key bindings. First thing I'm trying out is this little blonde (dude?) with an over sized cannon, or is it a mallet? A little of both i guess.

Yeah, it seems like it autosaves more often once you get, maybe, 50% through the game. But starting out, you can go a couple hours before you get a save. I've left it running for a couple hours just so I could get some lunch and run a few chores.

Throbble thought the game was a little gruesome, especially the melee attacks, but I don't mind blood and gore. She didn't actually play the game but once in awhile she would look over at my screen as I was burying the skyhook in someones face or using it to twist their heads around and she'd say, "Holy fuck that game is violent."

I think the melee attacks are the only really gruesome combat parts, but they're just so effective! There are definitely some really gory scenes that I have walked into though. I also love how there are definitely some skyrail loops that are clearly only there to use in battles and serve absolutely no other function to the city.

Mid Oct was full release for Path of Exile, shortly thereafter (28th) Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag came out. I got it release day for 360 and it completely stole my focus, I played the shit out of it and beat everything I could and when I was done I decided to extend my PoE break so I could finish games I've started.

Since then I went back to:
--Saints Row 4: finished everything and bought and beat all the dlc, (at the time)
--Dragons Dogma: (took almost a month) went back to it and beat it and everything I could find in it to beat, with the exception of a few odds and ends and the bitterblack isle expansion which I started but didn't finish.
--Skyrim: Finally got back to Skyrim, finished the main storyline and a billion sidequests, still not finished, stopped to play...
--Sleeping Dogs: Got it free on xbox live, pretty good game, started it, finished it, beat basically everything

And now, finally I am back to Path of Exile, after like a 3 month break. :P

I saw this and I love Todd McFarlane (except Spawn, which was just fucking stupid) and R.A. Salvatore, but this game just looks like every other RPG. Frankly, I'm getting tired of RPGs. I'm hoping for a Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition so I can get back to the basics. I recently bought Final Fantasy 7 from GOG for Throbble because we were talking about how shitty modern RPGs are and how cool FF7 was.

So, Mo, let me know what you think of Amalur. I don't mind buying it at full price if you think it's worth it. (Only 40 hours left for the deal!)

Just started Loadout. It's a free to play 3rd person arena shooter. As you progress through levels you can mix up the guns you use to have different effects. There are a lot of cosmetic extras that you get from paying real money but none of it will actually change the gameplay for you. However you can win some of the extras as you play. I got one of the pants today as a random reward for playing. Oh and the game has a lot of comedic gore.

I found it helpful to read the wiki article about it. It gives you a bit deeper insight into what the fuck was going on.

Anyway, I was out of town earlier this week, looking for a game to play on my Android phone, when I remembered that Deus Ex: The Fall (http://www.deusex.com/thefall) was released near the end of January. The controls take some getting used to (still getting used to them) and the game crashes once in awhile and makes my phone hot. But, the graphics and sound are amazing and I can't believe how complex the interface is, while not getting in the way of the view.

I need to get new ear buds, however, as my current ones interfere with the most comfortable way to hold the game (flipping the phone doesn't flip the display). I think the stereo sound would really enhance the stealth aspect of the game as you can tell which directions voices and other sounds are coming from.

Most reviews describe the The Fall as "Deus Ex: Human Revolution Lite", which I can see. You aren't the same character but the story seems to remotely tie into the events going on in HR. It's $5.99 on Google Play and it looks like there will be future content that progresses the plot further.

Tried out Loadout this morning. Pretty easy to get the hang of and very funny death animations. Standard 15 minute team objective based arena. I've seen some pretty interesting weapon combinations, like a mini electric rocket carpet bombing launcher. It will be fun to experiment with them once I unlock more of the mods.

Anyway, I sent a friend request to RedshirtEffect (Cuchulann). I'm JoeFixit. If anyone else wants to try this game out, post send us invites.

If I wasn't busy playing Dead Island which I got for free with Xbox Gold membership, I would have noticed your post about Kingdoms, 420. I bought it when it first came out and played the piss out of it, I also got one DLC and played a lot of that as well. I remember really enjoying the game and for $6 definitely would have said to pick it up. However, it is very much an RPG it is quite long if you do everything and I personally got bored midway and never got back to it. I also remember some of the lore and whatnot regarding elves and humans to be very weird and confusing and difficult to keep track of or even understand for that matter, but I nonetheless recommend picking the game up and giving it a shot, especially at a low price.

Dead Island: Awesome zombie game, by the way.

I just bought Fable Anniversary yesterday. I beat the living piss out of Fable II and Fable III and previously bought the original Fable arcade version for 360 a long time ago, and I had started it a little bit but was distracted by other games and couldn't get over the older graphics, but I really wanted to try the first one for a long time even before the second one came out and I had heard so much about it. So this new remastered version is quite an exciting prospect for me. I just have to try really hard to finish Dead Island with one character before starting something new, otherwise I might leave something unfinished.

I am also playing Warriors Orochi, which I never had a chance to try out until now. I love Dynasty and Samurai, so I knew I would enjoy it and I do, but as with all warriors games I almost never play the entire game at once. They are so easy to walk away from and so easy come back to without feeling lost when you return.

Oh also still playing Path of Exile, of course.

I've been having fun playing the new Thief game by Square Enix since it came out Tuesday. I think they did a pretty good job rebooting the series. It still feels like a Thief game to me. It jumps into story/plot a lot faster than the old games did. The pure steal this or steal x amount of whatever quests are almost all side jobs.

Occasionally there are slightly odd inconsistencies. At the point in the game I'm at, the Graven have taken over several districts of the city, but they're just as hostile to me as the guards are, even though the first several missions involve helping their leader. And in another mission, you have the option of overloading the vents of a brothel with opium so that everyone passes out, but then you'll still observe major NPCs having conversations through peepholes after that. That particular trick was also poorly implemented...instead of just having all of the NPCs fall asleep, they wait until you're within a certain distance and get knocked out like you hit them with a blackjack. It took me a while to figure out why I kept hearing random screams...consequently when I finished the mission the game told me I took out about 30 more people than I actually did.

Still, lots of fun.

What's wrong man?  Wanna talk about it :)
Wife employed deception to take off, bringing my daughter with her. Asked for answers, got none. Received a loaded glock to the face, trespassing charge, and went to jail. No contact order put in place by court which then completely prevented me from seeing my daughter despite having done nothing wrong. Court fees and fines. Wife not understanding what no-contact actually means, and messing around instead of removing it. Over two months and I finally just now saw my daughter for the first time Saturday. Divorce of course.  Attorney fees, measuring $10K atm. for both criminal charge and dissolution. Watching my daughter suffer due to wife's selfishness. 30 pages of document I've written every time I have something to say to her, she'll receive it when the no-contact order is lifted. Work being x10 stressful to be the rotten cherry on the tip of the moldy whip cream.
She's completely broke, staying with her parents (the in-laws I moved up here last year. I bought their uhaul, gas, and everything, including housing them for 3 months until they got their own place. Father-in-law is the one who pointed loaded (and cocked) gun in face, despite my mellow demeanor) and she's wanting to come over to my place while I had my daughter Saturday and just stay outside? As if that's not a violation of the order that she clearly doesn't understand. She also wants help from me, for food and money and things for our daughter, and yet the problem is still the order that she has the power to remove.

That is the extremely summed up version with many details left out. Most of those details are just like the things I've already listed or further elaborations of them. In other words, "wtf!?" Yeah...

Yep.

One step forward, two steps back these last few months...

:\
Tell me about it.

Anyway, I am now playing and have been playing the following:
CraftTheWorld
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Tropico 4
The Guild II
East India Company
Deponia
Chaos on Deponia
Broken Sword 1
Broken Sword 2

Soon:
Empire: Total War
Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves
Shadowrun Returns
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition
Portal 2
Goodbye Deponia
East India Company: Battle of Trafalgar/Pirate Bay/Privateer
The Guild II: Pirates of the European Seas/Renaissance

That's it for now.

Just got Shadowrun Returns on steam for my birthday. Pretty neat so far. The current story is an old fashioned, film noir, detective style. But I am a dwarf who hacks all kinds of computers for a living. The look and gameplay is very much like infinity engine games, especially Fallout with turn based combat and add a dash of x-com for tactical positioning behind cover. I'll give it a starting score of 5 out of 6 bullets form my .38. I'm saving the last one for a "special occasion."

Just started playing around with the toolset in Shadow run. Pretty simple to use so far as building areas is concerned. Everything is just a big bucket of digital leggos. Here is a quick bit I tossed together in about a hour.

... an empty bottle of something lay on the floor, remnants of the "business arrangement" the night before. Another bottle of something else poised itself at the edge of the desk like a burned out junkie ready to end it all and join its compatriot. Goat Simulator was for sale on Steam for $5 last weekend. I read it could be played multiplayer so I bought a copy for Throbble and me but I can't find the multiplayer option.

Pretty good so far, story is rather bland so far. As is already known, actual movement and many ways the game plays is Assassin's Creed-like. Wraith mode is comparable to eagle vision. Mostly hack and slash, stealth, shooting enemies, and infiltration-style/assassination-style missions. Not a whole lot of depth with customization or anything, as there isn't gear or crafting or anything. Mostly just skills and ability upgrades so far. But it's been fun anyway. Not too far into story mode yet.

Well, I got a little farther and things got a little more interesting, including the gameplay and fighting. However, the story is still pretty bland. At least you get some cool insight into Middle Earth.

The most you have for gear customization is 5 rune slots in your 3 weapons. You unlock runeslots over time with attribute points and then socket it runes you obtain mostly through killing captains and warchiefs.

It's fun shit, but I think the majority of the game price is for graphics. It definitely has dlc potential though.

ULTRA mode on the graphics settings asks for 6GB VRAM (most people report it working with 3 or 4 though) and it requires you download an additional 40GB texture pack to an already 34GB sized game.
Ironically, I know someone who plays Xbox One who thinks it's funny that I had to lower the graphics settings to run the game smoothly. This is funny because the game is 34GB on PC and to play ULTRA requires an additional 40GB, but the game only needs 28GB on the Xbox. Which tells me it likely only plays at medium. Ha, I'll be laughing even harder later today when I get my new card! :D

What console gamers don't understand is that there is NO benefit to owning a console over using a PC except to play console exclusives. If there were no exclusives, there would be no benefit. If you disregard exclusives, then the only thing consoles have going for them, is the amount of bang you get for your buck. To actually purchase a fully loaded pc gaming rig, costs far more than a console, even with equivalent power. But hey, they don't get unlimited backwards compatibility, and the freedom to hack, mod, fix, or anything else whatever you're playing. This same guy actually asked me what benefit there is to playing on PC.. like really? I can hack any game I want to either to cheat or to fix a problem, mod anything, download mods of others that make the game more fun, extend the games fun, improve graphics, or fix issues. I can play and listen to any music while checking e-mail and chatting with somebody, and I don't have to buy a special little keyboard because it's a computer... it's got a fucking keyboard. I can make any hotkeys and set all of my settings manually how I want them, graphically, or otherwise.

On a completely unrelated note: How the fuck, out of an entire living room, does my daughter manage to find a metal pin on the floor? (came out of my couch) ...and then she tries to eat it. <_<

I think this is the last run for consoles. When I heard about what the Xbox 1 was supposed to do I thought, "You all kinda dropped the ball there didn't ya?" Why just have a fully integrated home entertainment system? Why not the the entire house on one personal server? Most homes are already rigged up with coaxial and wifi so just make one big box to run them all, one big box to find them, one big box to bring them all... Sorry got my scripts mixed up there. But yeah one home server and you access it off satellite tablets and screens wherever you are, in the world. Really the tech to do this already exists on the public market, it just needs the supporting companies to sign contracts promising to play nice with each other.

On a completely unrelated note: How the fuck, out of an entire living room, does my daughter manage to find a metal pin on the floor? (came out of my couch) ...and then she tries to eat it. <_<

So far it's pretty damn cool. I wouldn't say it's better than Civ: V. But it's different, and I like that. Miasma is a cool concept, and the affinity's are definitely a change-up. Victory types are a lot different than the old standard, and the tech tree is more like a non-linear web now. It actually pays to use covert ops, and operations are not only plausible but recommended. Units don't simply unlock with tech like they used to, although there are some that do, based on affinity level and tech, the standard set are leveled through affinity level.

The diplomacy AI is as stupid and nonsensical as ever though. Not much has changed on that front.

For example, two civs declare war on you and then refuse to sign a peace treaty, so everyone else hates you and calls you a warmonger even though you're only defending yourself. Yup... that backwards shit is still in the game.

I never played Alpha Centauri.

It's on Good Old Games. It's the best incarnation of the Civilization game after Civ III in my opinion. If you get it make sure you get the Alien Crossfire expansion with it. (I think it comes bundled with the base game.) It's the title that Sid Meier did after Civ III when he left MicroProse to found FIRAXIS (or something like that).

Well, I had and played Civ III. I liked it quite a bit, but I always got bored and could never finish a game. Civ IV sucked ass. Civ V is amazing as fuck. Every other civ game usually makes me bored, but I've played and finished tons of games in Civ V with 0 boredom. Many even, with the only way to win through domination.

I may have to put it on my list, but I'm still waiting for the game that Spore was supposed to be. ;)

Also the perfect pirate game? Where are you!? Assassin's Creed is as close as it gets, which is surprising, for not inherently being a game about pirates. :)

I've beat Civ V on all difficulties, I think. The hardest ones, for sure. I've also done some of the scenario's, but I haven't beat those on every difficulty nor with every character.

Uh, Civ: Beyond Earth got boring. I couldn't keep playing. My understanding is that it is very different from Alpha. One of the lead devs says it's a "spiritual successor" to Alpha, but that's about the extent of it.

Picked up a bunch of games when the Steam holiday sale started...Machinarium, A Story About My Uncle, Anna, Only If, Kario, and Dragon Age: Origins. The only one I've really dug into so far was Dragon Age, which I just had to put down out of frustration...it should have everything I would enjoy in a game, but the combat and party systems are obnoxious and ineffective. I have no desire to sit there and micromanage a group of NPCs in addition to my character.

Yeah, I remember the advertising seeming very generic...I vaguely recall thinking it looked more or less like a lot of other games coming out around the same time. It's getting a little bit more manageable though. I'm not a huge fan of the interface, and I had to search google to figure out if the options I wanted were even there because the game does a poor job of showing you things (it gives you codex entries, and you have to read each individual one for details, and the I don't think the particular option I was looking for was even in there; not very useful imo)...

For some reason your party members don't default to auto follow (or automatically engage enemies attacking them) unless you go in and tweak their AI. I think the idea was to give a lot of freedom for how you want your party members to engage in combat, but the defaults were kind of useless so you have to adjust them even if you'd rather just plug and play. Other than that combat is okay. It's basic hack and slash so far. The story seems fun enough, and they make good use of cutscenes, although the amount of pixelation around character models during them is driving me nuts. I've played much older games that aren't nearly that bad. I'll have to dig into my graphic settings and see if there is something wonky there. I also wish they had done voice overs for your character. I know it's a lot with the amount of voice options they give, but I'd rather have had fewer voice options (or none) and quality voice over work for your character during cutscenes. It'd be more engaging.

So yeah, probably not as much as it was hyped to be, but it was $15 so I figured, "Why not?"

Hmmm DA:Origins huh? I'd rank that as one of the best RPGs of the past 20 years.  Wow that was a good game.

Yes it has a tactical combat system, which I really enjoy.  I like to be able to micromanage my party members. I hit space bar to pause combat all the time.  Sounds like you don't like that sort of tactical gameplay.  The more recent DA games leave that bahind to placate the more mainstream gamer...to my sadness...

Balls deep.

Frankly, I don't understand Minecraft at all. The graphics suck and I can't figure out what the hell the point is. I can't even tell if it's multiplayer or single player. Is there a storyline? People post videos about finding cool things, but can't you just build a world like NWN?

Very confusing.

Title: Re: What is everyone playing
Post by: Elessar Telrunya on January 16, 2015, 07:55:38 PM
I had literally no intuition for what the game wants you to do when I started. I wouldn't have figured anything out if I didn't look online because the game gives you no guidance beyond telling you to move with WASD and open your inventory with E. It's got two basic modes. Both of them will start with a random seed map that generates a unique world based on the seed number (you can input a seed number to get a specific map though). Survival starts you with nothing (although there is an option to start with a chest that has a few basic items) and you have to collect resources to build shelter and feed yourself before dark when mobs come out and will attack you. Early on the mobs are kind of frightening, but once you collect enough materials to craft armor they aren't nearly as dangerous. Beyond that it's completely sandbox. You just go around collecting the resources you need/want to build whatever elaborate infrastructure you want for shelter, farming, herding, enchanting, brewing, etc. There are some temples you can rob in the deserts, and I guess there are a few end bosses to fight as well, but that's about it. There is also a creative mode that allows you to fly and build with unlimited resources and mobs won't attack you either. All this can be single player or multiplayer, and multiplayer servers can do some futzing with the game structure to create new objects/abilities/commands if they want.

Honestly though, I don't know how people played the game when it first came out though. I'd hate to have to sit there and figure out recipes via trial and error. The first time I played I didn't want to look anything up and I died. A lot. I'd have gone nuts, especially if I had to figure out how red stone worked. The game allows you to create logic circuits by connecting red stone power sources to various things either directly or via red stone circuits, but I don't think I would have ever figured that out on my own (especially since my grasp on it is still very tenuous even after reading explanations...).

So yeah, you can build a world, but then it just sort of sits there feels special about itself, not like NWN where you could actually craft a story to play through. The soundtrack is surprisingly very nice and relaxing though. I think I expected 8 bit music or something with the art style...

edit: This (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ-_FAgg8Qc&index=1&list=PLLR6rGgHVKKevk3D57OG6l-32Cu8OxNxT) is probably one of the more interesting examples I've seen of a minecraft server altering the rules of play to create a minigame with it's own mechanics imo.

Thanks for the run-down on the game. If you make your own world does it give you a seed so you can share it with the community?

Also, Simpsons are coming to Minecraft!

Being a huge Simpsons fan (Throbble and I just finished building the Simpsons house out of Lego) it sounds pretty cool. Unfortunately, it's only for the X-Box platforms and I don't have a console.

As far as I can tell, you can extract the seed that generated the world, but if someone input that seed when creating their own world, it would generate the world you started with, not anything you had done to the world. I suspect if you wanted to let others actually explore your world you'd have to host that world on a server, but you'd have to futz with the settings or risk whoever enters your server destroying anything you made. (Side story: I was working on a production of Oliver! over the summer, and all the kids in the show played minecraft together on their portable devices, which was pretty cool especially since it mostly kept them quiet until one of them entered another's world and completely destroyed everything she had made for no particular reason. They had their electronics privileges suspended after that.)

You can design the skin for your character though, so the Simpsons pack sounds more like a novelty to me. There are some restrictions to skinning (it has to fit on the default model), but minecraft was designed with the intention that players would go in and alter the rules however they saw fit, so I bet you could go in and make your own Simpsons skin pack if you really wanted.

edit: They actually do have a game demo on their website. Gives you about 100 minutes of play time in a specific seed map, but you can restart the demo any number of times you want. That's how I ended up trying it.

I stand corrected. You can't share your map by sharing the seed, but you can save a copy of it and upload it somewhere for download and play in. That's how various hungers games maps are distributed to servers that run it.

I find the concept of these games pretty odd. I mean, I like "crafting" if it involves a toolset and a scripting language. Hell, I even made a custom item crafting system for Smith Hold. But the idea of a game where you mine then craft seems a little meta to me. Just give me the tools (ie toolset) and I'll build a world for everyone to play in.

Yeah, I generally hate dealing with in-game crafting systems because I'd rather be out adventuring than sitting at a forge trying to make gear, but I've found something oddly satisfying about setting small goals to build for myself in minecraft. I don't think I'd ever want to sit around making these huge elaborate creations that other people make, even in creative mode (free access to all materials without having to mine them and immunity to mobs), but it amuses me enough...mostly I build around getting stuff that will lead to adventuring. Right now I'm working on getting materials to fully explore and defeat an ocean monument I discovered, but it's difficult because I have to defeat the elder guardians in the monument before I can really make progress, because they severely limit my mining ability and I'm limited by however many water breathing potions I've managed to bring with me.

Been playing Darkest Dungeon.

$20 off Steam.  I recommend it but beware, you'll be screaming at your PC often as the game is freaking brutal.

Yes it's early access but it's quite good and there's a lot of game play available.  They promised all the new content will be released at no additional costs and I was assured by people I trust that they won't be lying.

But you never know..at $20 it's worth.

Picked up DA during the discounted week but I've only played for a couple of hours. I've been spoiled by Skyrim.  The same week I got Civ 5 and Batman Arkham City (I know I'm a little behind) but I just can't get into any of them.

Yeah, I haven't played much more of DA than when I got it. I may eventually just jump to Inquisition, since from what I've heard they fixed a lot of the things that bug me about Origins in Inquisition.

I've dumped almost 600 hours into that game :)
Hope you have all the expansions.

Just started playing Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth. I bought it when it first came out but put off playing it until I finished Wolfenstein: The New Order and Saints Row: Gat out of Hell.

It's basically an updated version of one of my favorite games of all time, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. The graphics are really nice and the interface takes a little getting used to. For instance, you can't reassign keys and some of the key bindings are awkward. F11 to quicksave Ctrl-F11 to quickload ("Whoops I wanted to quickload, not quicksave!")

I bought it because a friend of mine basically forced me into it (i lost a bet and owed him the game) so I got two copies when it was 50% off.  Anyway.  It's very similar to Civ 5 mechanics wise.  The biggest difference is the Tech Tree being replaced by a Tech Web.  Otherwise quite similar.

The issue with the Civs games is that it makes more sense to wait for expansions because they always improve the base game by A LOT.  So I'm not playing Beyond Earth yet..Civ 5 is a better game as it stands now.

Yeah, Beyond Earth was unable to hold my interests for more than a full game basically. I still liked it and wanted to play more, but I got bored. I've had the same problem with literally all of the other Civ games except for Civ V, for some reason. Haven't put my finger on it yet.

Civ V was the first Civ game that I played, so I can't really help you figure that out. It is a very fun game.

I got invited to play the beta of Dirty Bomb this weekend which is the newest title by Splash Damage (Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and BRINK). Set in post apocalyptic London, it's a objective based team vs. team FPS. The gameplay is very similar to BRINK without the lame parkour moves. I'll probably get it even though it will probably suffer the same fate as BRINK.

Yesterday a friend of mine told me to try out Gems of War, which is one of those gem matching games but with some sort of RPG aspect to it. I played through the tutorial last night but I was drunk and don't remember any of it.

Throbble and I were QA testers for Spore and you know how that game turned out...

Anyway, got to play some more Gems of War and I'm liking the game. A match takes about 10 minutes so it's good for some short entertainment when you don't have a lot of time.

It's PvP (against people or computer) and as you win matches you get experience which allows you to acquire and upgrade weapons, party members, and gem affinities. The type of weapon you use determines the type of gems you need to fill up your mana ball. You also acquire party members that require a gem type to fill up their mana balls. When a mana ball fills up you may use that member's special power. Usually it's an attack against the other player's party, but sometimes it's some other ability like, "Choose a row of gems to destroy and gain an amount of armor equal to the number of green gems destroyed.".

All in all, it's more entertaining than Blizzard's Hearthstone but I don't see why it's a PC game an not a mobile game. The company that made it is even called, "505GAMES Mobile".

-420

EDIT: Forgot to mention, it's a freemium game available on Steam.

That's a good question. Is the game in beta or early access? I think developers are using Steam to kinda build games while selling them at the same time.  PC gamers are more forgiving to buying things in early access or beta.  Once the game is actually finished they will port it to mobile.

I think that is what is happening with Darkest Dungeon (good game btw check it out).  That game looks like it would be perfect for mobile but it's on PC.  It's early access so not even finished yet.

Controller. I tend to give it a try on a lot of the indie games that support it because it's easier on my wrists. I'll probably stick to keyboard/mouse for things like Thief and Bioshock though...

I played Hearthstone for awhile but lost interest. I'll try and get back into it.

As for StarCraft, I made it about half way through the expansion, but I suck at playing Zerg, so I couldn't play through on "normal" difficulty. Now that the Protoss expansion has been announced I think I'll play through the whole campaign on easy just to get caught up on the storyline in preparation for the new expansion.

Started playing TERA yesterday. It's a free-to-play MMO on steam. I think I'm only just past the tutorial stuff, but it's fun enough so far. Pretty standard MMO stuff, but I think they're trying for a more fluid combat system (it feels very similar to GW2 combat, but without being able to activate skills while moving). Not expecting much from the story, since most of the quests so far have been "go kill x monsters," but oh well. Right now free suits my wallet.

I played Hearthstone when it first came out then quit for a couple years. Started playing again when it came out on mobile devices. Looks like I missed some events as people have these weird legendary cards I've never seen before. (The upper right corner of the card is shaped like a wing and they have some pretty crazy powers.) Also, Gems of War finally came out for Android devices and you can link it to your existing Steam GoW account.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is definitely worth it. HD Pack is free DLC. Game is huge in size, esp with the HD pack. 70+ GB
Looks great on Ultra settings.

GOTY upgrade gives you all of the DLC for 3 bucks.

Cities:Skylines.  Very high recommend for those who like city building. Currently on Winter sale on Steam.  Anything from Paradox is recommended by me...

Pillars of Eternity.  From our friends at Obsidian.  Recommended for those seeking an old school Infinity Engine RPG experience.

Divinity Original Sin - Enchanced Edition.  I played the first release and it was very good.  The Enhanced Edition just came out which adds a boat load of stuff.  Recommended for those seeking an RPG with tough tactical combat.

Oh, hah, sorry, I probably should have updated everyone after I tried it on the free weekend. I got about five minutes in before giving up on it. Character creation was a mess. Couldn't figure out what bonuses anything gave. Then actually playing it was rough. Looked and felt horrible. Glad I didn't buy it.

It's alright.

I thought the character creation went smoothly for me. Game seems interesting, but I will need to get used to the play style. I didn't play too much since I had dinner pretty soon after checking it out. I'm going to put in some time this weekend and check it out. Also want to check out the DM stuff. It looks like it could be interesting with some work.

It also has a module creator. So you + a group of 4 (you being the DM) can run the module. It seems pretty interesting. Character creation is a little weird, the look isn't stellar. But once in the game, the game looks great. It reminds me of Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale. Play style wise, more similar to Icewind Dale.

The module creator isn't as powerful a tool as the Toolset in NWN was, and honestly I expect modern releases to look like modern releases. The graphics looked like they could have predated NWN.

I agree that the module creator isn't as powerful of a tool. But with the way the game was designed, it was never meant to be. I do, however, disagree with you regarding the graphics. They are way more fluid and detailed than NWN and NWN2. The areas are much more dynamic and have a lot of detail. You might be looking back at NWN with rose tinted glasses. I still play NWN and while it's still one of the best games of all time, it does look it's age.

I've been clocking more hours of Warhammer: Vermintide lately. Fun co-op first-person hack and slash, definitely quite enjoyable. The player base is relatively small though, so you sometimes have to really hit peak hours to find a party to play with if you aren't playing with people you know.

I just got done with a game called Betrayer, which was a neat little title I found on Steam for $10. It was worth the $10, I enjoyed it, but it was also a bit weird. It had a RPG/Adventure mix, classified as Action Adventure, and the fact that you didn't gain any skills or levels or anything by the end of the game was slightly irritating, because enemies got stronger and you didn't, but with the better and better weapons, it was beatable. I'd recommend to anyone looking to pick it up, especially if you kind of like a bit of a horror setting with your games and if you like stealth and adventure.

I also played the piss out of Victor Vran. Which is, no Diablo, definitely not Path of Exile, but still a really sweet action rpg title that I picked up off of Steam for $6 and almost have 80 hours in. I still intend to play more of it yet as well. I highly recommend this title. Especially for it's low cost, you literally can't go wrong buying it. Normally it's $20, it's worth that. I'd wait for it to come on sale again to buy it, but not because it isn't worth it if you don't.

I am now (finally) re-playing Skyrim with mods. I haven't been afforded the opportunity to play it on PC, and have been long awaiting the chance. I beat a lot of the game on the 360, but have struggled periodically with getting mods working correctly on PC, to the point of saying fuck-it and moving on to something else. Finally with a lot of the much-needed updated mods have had since I last tried, everything is working smoothly and I'm loving it. lol, and some people think there's actually something better about playing console vs. pc. Morons.

DOOM was fun but it was just team deathmatch, no single player, and only a couple maps.

There is a leveling system that allows you to unlock special consumables like placing an icon on the player that killed you that you can see from anywhere on the map. Reminded me a lot of Quake 3: Team Arena.

Title: Re: What is everyone playing

Hi everybody,

Currently waiting for a job to start so I came back home to play some games.  I picked up on Steam/Origin ME 1-3 and Far Cry 1-3 discounted.  My friend and I have also started new characters in GW 1 but that's moving very slow they like to kill everything.  There's some Minecraft, creative mode and like always I play some Diablo1 and Doom 1-2 on the side.

ME 1 was off to a frustrating start. The poorly timed cut-scenes and ambushes were really frustrating and the depth of the consequences of your choices in dialogue was hard to tell and I was far into the game when I realized that if I took a hard line approach to most conversations, either paragon or rebel, I could then get those options (red/blue). I feel like I missed a lot of opportunities.  Plus having to figure out when I could talk to my squad and get further was hard to tell so I was constantly prompting them for more conversation but finding that I hadn't progressed enough in the story to get any where with them.  In the end the romance seemed like they just gave it to me cause I put in some effort.  Ashley is an asshole but I saved her.

And WTF is with all the elevators and doors and corridors?  Are they just trying to add to the game play time?  The voice acting for Shepard is flat.  The female actor is much better especially as a rebel.  I'm not into the side quests of collecting rocks...or alien artifacts even on the off chance this opens something cooler and more meaningful just seems like a grind.  What I call click questing.

It has opened me to more modern FPS with the ducking and jumping action.  I haven't played FPS's in such a long time because the controls are out of hand for me but here the dumbing down is appreciated.  The squad commands are squirrelly and unreliable a lot of the time.  They remind me of hero/henchies in GW.

I didn't care for the Prothean computer thing telling me that he had no idea why the Reapers were doing what they were doing.  Seemed like a lame line to say something to the effect of "No one knows even the writers"  so there was a big let down in the story there.

Starting ME 2 and it's more of the same.  Very disappointed that my ENTIRE squad is gone and the overall story beginning is just weak.  Glad they added details like bathrooms and cooks but why is the first nonmission quest getting f***ing ingredients for the kitchen?  Grocery shopping in a SciFi epic opera really?  Also, there's the no crouching thing....

Guns are cool and I love the upgrade system but there's no context for anything as far as stats etc. ME seems to do too much of everything to be great at anything.

I haven't started Far Cry yet but I'm looking for the exploration/sand box side rather than the story because the writing in these games is failing.

Anyone playing Rust?  Looks like the community is really divided on the direction of the game.  I'd play it but can't run it.  Vertiigo's videos are awesome!

I've mostly been playing Vermintide because money, although I suspect I am nearing the end of replayability for that unless I want to learn a new character for it. Otherwise I've mostly been tabletop gaming every week. I'm also about to run the Out of the Abyss D&D 5e campaign over Fantasy Grounds with college friends. Pretty excited - it should be a fun campaign.

How is 5e?  It feels like my friends just got the hang of 4e after 4 years.

We're on after 8:30-9pm EST.  Just about to do the Nolani Academy and the Diessa(?) land quests.

I really like 5e. I played the Starter Set campaign with friends over Christmas and had a blast. They have really taken out the rules/options bloat that had crept into 3.5/Pathfinder and made your class choices more thematic. They also evened out the power curve so that casters are sturdier at lower levels and melee characters keep up well in higher level play. Everything about it is intended to streamline play so that there is less flipping through rule books and tables while returning a lot of discretion to the DM.

I never really cottoned on to 4 (and tbh I don't know many people who did), so I'm not super familiar with it's rulesets, but the common description I've heard is that they picked the best parts of earlier editions and integrated them into a simpler, cohesive system. In terms of lore, they also dug back to a lot of early first and second edition material for inspiration regarding classes and creatures.

My major criticism is that the PHB and DMG could be laid out much better. I spent a lot of time between sessions of that first campaign figuring out how certain pieces worked together because the information is spread out. Once you actually get them, they work really well though. I think the other major criticism I've seen floating around the internet is that there are some imbalances remaining (which the current content lead has stated that he is okay with) and that the Ranger options laid out in the PHB aren't very good. They released an errata for play testing last fall, but that wasn't well received either, so they are still working on a new version. Tbh, we used the play test version and loved it, so I'm actually kind of disappointed that it was unpopular.

I'll have to pop on GW some evening and join you!

Rather than diggin' out my NWN cds from storage, I bought the Diamond edition on GOG for $10.  Installed and it runs great on Windows 10.  There was a problem with setting the resolution that took only a little trouble shooting.  Doing a full play through and geesh, Desther is really tough.  I also installed X-Mouse that allows you to customize mouse controls for just about any software.  With this I switched the middle and right mouse buttons in the game.

I still play every now and then. I used to log onto Throbbleserv every so often, but it hasn't been up in some time unfortunately. :(

I can bring it back up if you'd like. I stopped running it when no one had logged in for a couple years. (Also, I realized I was posting the wrong IP address for awhile.)

Indeed, Mercy.

I've been playing Subnautica recently. It's a lot of fun, despite my irrational fear of deep water. (literally, like the only thing that scares the shit out of me, haha) It's still in early access and has a lot of work to go, but despite this, it's pretty remarkable as it stands. If anyone plays it, don't make my mistake, put your fire extinguisher in storage never to be seen again unless you're using it to shoot around in the water, as it stands, there is no other fire. I hucked it around with me everywhere, expecting a fire on a wreck or especially on the Aurora, but I finally decided to look it up, and you only ever can put out the original fire in the beginning. Haha...

Also, play experimental version. Besides the fish now respawning on it (your ocean begins to look barren unless you personally re-stock it later, and even then...), there is a lot of stuff that gets changed. If I knew what I know now, I would have made my game on experimental to begin with, but I would normally avoid unstable builds, this game is an exception. Plus it aids development.

Another pro-tip for anyone beginning, build 5 pipes under equipment as soon as possible. You don't have to rush or anything, but the sooner the better. Take the pipes, and connect them horizontally 1 after another as close to the surface as you can, all the way around your lifepod, so that the last pipe connects to the first. You can do it with just the 5 pipes, no need to make extra. Sometimes the lifepod floats away, it gets hit by fish or something supposedly and can end up very far from the safe shallows. Mine has never moved after I did this to it.

Been playing the heck out of Cities: Skylines.  Gonna hit the 200 hour mark soon.  What I really like most about this game is that it has a very big Steam community and there are TONS of cool mods and assets available in the Workshop that added a TON to this game for free.  I went on a subscribing spree and added oh I don't know about many dozens of mods and assets.  Now my game needs 10GB of RAM to start lol... Anyway at least now I have Tim Hortons in my city!

Yeah, when I told you it was a good fucking game I wasn't joking. Best city builder I've ever played. The only reason I stopped when I did is because of a broken asset messing up my game, and I had to figure out which one it was, so I ended up doing something else and never got back to it. Every time I think about playing it, I usually say "ah, but that broken asset..." lol.

Definitely recommend that title to anyone who likes city builders.

Well, in my case, I could load up, but after a few seconds or something it would pop something up. I don't remember exactly now, but I remember that I was certain disabling an asset I downloaded would solve the problem. Only I had added several assets at once, and would have to use process of elimination, seemed tedious, so I went to do something else for awhile. Awhile has lasted quite some time now. lol.

Started playing SW:TOR again. The new expansion has a chapter in the story line released every month and I've missed each month since Jan. Pretty fun. Sort of a single player facet in an online game. The story is fun to go through and since each class has it's own story, lots of replayability. At least until you do them all. :P

Amazing graphics, classic Deus Ex gameplay, and the end of the first mission and the subsequent intro movie had me saying "Oh fuck!" throughout. Good times.

This War of Mine - Happy to be back to it.
Banished with Mods - This game pissed me off, disappointed me, I'm glad I found some sweet mods, am liking it better this time around.
Zombidle - Been consistently playing this since I found it on Newgrounds a month ago. It's pretty sweet.

Finished Teslagrad a few weeks ago. Puzzle platformers are my go-to lately. It was a pretty fun mechanic.

I have a couple of games on my radar for eventually, but money's still tight - good news is that I just got a new job, so that should get better after I start later this month.

Other than that I'm mostly playing tabletops still. Scythe is the new hit in my gaming group. My D&D campaign is going well. Our druid, sorcerer, and friendly gelatinous cube got to have tea with a mindflayer last session. The sorcerer was stoked, even though he ended up being insulted repeatedly; the druid wasn't convinced he wasn't about to have his brain eaten; and the gelatinous cube was sent because it doesn't have a brain to be eaten and wanted to know what tea was.

Sorry I missed out on playing through Guild Wars again, Meclar!

Hi everybody,

I Have...

Started ANOTHER play through of Skyrim V but lost interest.

Started a play through of GW but my girlfriend lost interest.

Started a play through of Brutal Doom on Realism but haven't finished.

Started Fallout Out: New Vegas but there was so much stuff to pick up in the starting house that I never left.

Started Skyrim IV but felt totally overwhelmed when I finally got outside and thought I was starting a play through of Skyrim V.

Started the first Walking Dead game and it's very good but I need more time to play for longer stretches to get into it.

Started Dragon Age but I don't like artwork and the story reminds me of GW.

Started Legend of Grimrock on Old School.  It's very good and fun to wander around.

i've been playing some Magic 2014 & Duels but it takes some focus that I don't usually have to be good.

I'm not sure if I should start Titan Quest, Portal, Batman Arkham City, The Witcher or Styx: Master of Shadows.

I'm playing  older games that I didn't bother with before because I was hooked on even older games or a specific game at the time.  The good old ones are now cheap on Steam and my limited hardware can run them maxed and they look good.

Everybody: "Hi Meclar!"

Anywho, I've had the nostalgia urge to play GW again, but specifically with people who haven't played before so someone will have the drive to finish the entire thing, but I haven't convinced anyone to do this with me yet.

I am playing Hollow Knight. I love the art style, but it mostly reminds me how bad I am at platformers, so every time I start I play until I get frustrated and give up for the time being.

I'm still putzing around in Warhammer: Vermintide every now and then for some good ol' stabby stabby. My general feeling is that they have finally now released all the free content updates that should have been in the game at launch.

This morning I am starting another 5e DnD campaign (as a player this time). We're running the Curse of Strahd adventure, and I'm playing a paladin. Should be fun. Anywho, I've got to go conquer undead tyrants in that now.

I want to play some GW too.  I'd really like to get my GWAMM but I need to max 5 titles.

My friends and I have been playing 4th edition D&D for a few years now and it's getting old because the DM doesn't know when to end an encounter or move things along and there's no RPing.  We did a run through of a quest out of the starter box for 5th and it went super fast.  I don't care what edition I play just that the DM can be flexible.  Once we finish up this 4th ed. side campaign I'm not sure if we'll switch to our original campaign using 5th or go back to 2nd which we started it with or even stay with 4th!

The heck is a "Skyrim IV?" I assume you mean The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

I am back on Path of Exile again, and have been since mid-January. (I played Grim Dawn before it) There are a lot of games I want to play and have gotten ready to play or started but am waiting to finish Legacy League in PoE. I re-started the original Witcher about a month ago, and played through to a certain point when I decided to focus back on PoE. I intend to play the 2nd and 3rd Witcher as well, which I recently got on sale. I also plan to re-play Skyrim fully loaded with mods in the new special edition version sometime soon, as well as the Amnesia games I recently got. I am also excited for a return to Subnautica and Terraria in the future, with all of the updates that have come out for them. On the list to play again/some more is also The Long Dark, but I'm waiting for them to finish the main story first, unless there's too many major content updates to resist.

Oh, and I'm still playing Zombidle. About a year of playing that now.

So Meclar, you're looking for something to play where you don't necessarily have to play for long stretches to get into, don't need a state-of-the-art system, and don't need to be fully focused to play decent?
Have you tried any Saints Row games?

RPG's specifically might be tough in that criteria, but if you like ARPG's (like Baldur's Gate or Diablo), Grim Dawn and Victor Vran are both very good choices and have great single player. There's also multiplayer for Grim Dawn, I can't remember if Victor Vran does, but I think not. Path of Exile is always my top recommendation but that has a huge learning curve, and an overwhelming amount of content, requires focus, and consumes an endless amount of time, it's also always online. You can play "single player," but still online.

Otherwise Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is a good choice too, but requires some decent specs.
Terraria, Craft the World, and Subnautica are also good choices of games you can pick up when you want to play, make progress and have fun, and then put down when you need to stop.

Guild Wars 2 has an open beta event for their next expansion this weekend, so I checked it out. It goes into the Crystal Desert and parts of Elona again (Nightfall), and Balthazar has become the villain. As usual the art is gorgeous, but they haven't really changed any of the things that made me stop playing, so I am not likely to actually buy it.

Was entertained to see that someone threw a googly-eyed basket over Balthazar's head at this shrine to the 6 gods though.

Haven't played much this year. Had a span of about 9 months or so game free, and then played Subnautica again for a bit months ago, enjoyed the newest updates from the last time I'd played. Then went on to play The Long Dark again, tons of new updates there, it was great. After that went back to Terraria, last played that about a month ago, but intend to continue when I feel I have ample time.

Nothing "new" as of yet.

I take it back. Looking at the database, several people, including you, have logged in since we brought the server back up in April. A lot of repeat players, same account name but different character names, which implies they are probably taking advantage of the leveling/crafting systems. Five players started the Purple Dragon quest, though, after some testing I think the quest may be too hard for level 1 characters (even though it scales).

Throbble and I will make an effort to be more active then and I'll go back to work on finishing the 9th (final) PDK questline.

Nice, I've been waiting for the PDK quest to finish. :D I'll have to make some more characters and get on. I've been having an issue with the toolset where if I create a placeable and place it on a tileset the toolset crashes. Not sure what the problem is. Waiting to see if Beamdog updates it or not.
