So if I bought the following setup

INTEL Core 2 Quad Q6600
ANTEC SONATA 500 Watt
MSI P35 Neo-FI motherboard with Firewire connection
2 GB DDR2 800Mhz memory
Samsung 500GB SATA
MSI 8800GTS 320MB Game 3d-card
20x DVDRW Dual layer SATA met
33-in1 Card Reader Intern
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit Nederlands

would I be able to let's say run all new games like Bioshock at high or medium detail and the games that are coming (Assasins Creed, Chronicles of Spellborn, GTA 5, etc) also run on high or at least medium detail...?

Man... youre joking right?, with that pc you could even play at more than max settings xD, i can already run Bioshock at max settings with my pc and its way lower than that:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2.5gb RAM
Radeon X1900GT

So yeah you wouldnt have any problem i think.

I would not go with the quad core. Your pc will hardly make use of the extra processing power.  If I were you, and I was a few months ago when I bought my new computer, I'd get a Core 2 Duo 6350 and overclock that to around 3ghz.  With the money saved from the quad-core get 2 more GB of RAM.

You also might want to go with the 640MB Nvidia.  If it's not too much more.

Lastely I'd go with x2 smaller HDs like 320GB in RAID0

heh you see the problem is i'm buying a pc that's allready assembeld, because I have no time myself to assemble a pc (working in shifts + in weekends) and frankly i'm not feeling up to it anymore.

I don't know i'm feeling kinda "safer" to go for quad core cuz well face it like Hell said in a few months or maybe a year even a quad core will be outdated lol.
As for the HDD and the 3D-card I can always replace them with better ones.

You can always replace a dual core with a quad core later for cheaper than replacing an old video card with a newer one.  Games won't be truely multi-threaded for a couple of years yet.

Anyway with Vista you'll be better off with 4GB of ram than a quad core.  It uses lots of memory.  I started with 2GB than bought another 2GB a couple weeks later.

Well the complete setup I placed in my first post it comes to a total of 1049â?¬ wich is according to a site 1470$ checked it on two sites and both give the same amount so yup 1470$

yup, you can it's a computer store so I suppose you can say wich parts you wan't in the pc and all, but the setup i choose there looks pretty good and I think i'm gonna go with it maybe i'll just change the 3d-card with more memory but for the rest i'm pretty happy.

I just saw a laptop that will be available this wendsday and it doesn't look bad

it's a HP DV9530EB
-intel core 2 duo T7300
-2GB DDR2 ram
-HDD 320Gig sata
-nvidia geforce 8400M 128mb

is it a good choice for a laptop that will be used mostly for gaming purposes and will it last for at least 2 years and be able to run games at medium detail?

Why a laptop? because well it takes up less room and when you're away on holiday you can take it with you and all...

I'm really not sure what constitutes "medium detail", but laptops lack in two very important areas.

1)HDs are normally 5400rpm which are very slow.
2)Mobile video cards are pretty bad. Espcially an 8400

Mo's just being a hard-ass. I use a GeForce 7900 GS 512MB and I can run Bioshock, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Hellgate: London at 1280X1024 with most, if not all, graphics cranked up.

I've been building computers for 10 years, so probably longer than those people on your forums have been alive for.  The 8600s are a low end gaming cards.  Nvidia is releasing the 8800GT as their mainstream gaming card next month.

Read any review on the 8600GT or GTS and you'll see they are only mediocre gaming video cards.  Now the one you have there is a mobile version, so thats even a slower clocked version (ie. worse for gaming).

An Nvidia 7900 would be a better choice for performance than an 8600 but you'll lose DX10.

Anyway it's your choice. if you only care about medium to low settings then go ahead.

I'm currently using an ATI HD2600PRO that would be around the performance of your card there.  It's fine for games like Guild Wars and NWN and newer games at low res (maybe your laptop has a low res screen).  But if you want high res gaming forget about it.

Well there are laptops with a nvidia 7900 but i wan't the DX 10 possibility so that's why I wan't a geforce 8600, besides I don't mind gaming on medium detail, most games I play are RPG's and they don't require that much of your system.

And if 420 can run Bioshock on a GF 7900 with max settings why couldn't mine?

lol i'm used to games on a 800x600 settings i only play GW at a higher resolution and AA and AF lol dunno when I last used them.

Also forget the say today i got a promotion at work so i'll need a laptop for work now.
