System Requirements for NWN2?
« on: May 16, 2006, 07:15:08 PM »
It's probably been posted and I did take a look but I didin't see anything on the system requirements of NWN2.  I'm slowly improving my computer so if anyone knows it'd be nice to share.

From NWVault front page:
Quote
Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart has posted the minimum specs for NWN2 on the GameSpot forums for what NWN2, as of right now. Looks like you'll definitely need a very decent video card. Here's the post.

Minimum, right now, is looking like a 2.4GHz P4, 512MB of RAM, NVidia 5600Ultra or ATI 9500pro or better and broadband for multiplayer.

    Feargus Urquhart
    CEO
    Obsidian Entertainment, Inc.

What do you know, it's Throbble's computer's exact specs! Oh wait, she's got a big 1 Gig of RAM. KAPOW!

Boardband for multiplayer? Oh Oh...I think they forget most people still use dial-up....Guess they didn't optimize the game for low bandwidth.  That's would be a mistake.

Strange as it may seem, there are still places where you can't get broadband of any kind.

WOHOOO nice system specs i was worried they were gonna go Oblivion if that was the case i would have needed to upgrade my system totally.
Anyway the system i'm using should handle it without problems, therefore i can still keep up the schedule to buy a new pc next year :D

I only hope the single player campaign is MUCH better then the first one...

Even my specs are better than the first minimum spec requirements. Doesn't look like I'll have an issue. Although my video card is better than that, is still screwy, so I will still update it later.

Broadband cannot get everywhere just yet no. Although supposedly, anyone can get sattelite internet. Thing is, it is expensive as f***. They take advantage of the fact that certain locations are unable to get broadband. Which I noted someone said was cheaper than dial-up, and it isn't. Dial-up is cheaper. You get what you pay for.

Actually, that's not the case. My brother lives 100 miles east of Fresno and he can't even get cell phone reception. No satellite anything for him, either.

Well, the only requirement I know of is "You must have a clear view of the southern sky." Other than that, I wouldn't know what makes his location so... "remote." Seems the proper word.

He obviously lives ontop of an ancient metorite.  I've had that problem in the past. Silly things make receiving anything nearly impossible.

Yes it is. Especially so in the UK.

Personally, I dont even have a phone line - the line rental on a phone line would cost more than my broadband connection. Plus I would have to pay for the internet connection on top.
All my phone calls are routed over the internet at a fraction of traditional phone costs.

It would cost be more than twice as much for dial up access as i pay for broadband.

If you have a phone line, and are willing to pay a nominal fee, you can actually get completely free broadband in the UK. (the fee is to bolt-on inclusive local and national calls - we dont get free phonecalls in the UK)

So - to correct you, broadband is cheaper than dislup.

Ther are two kinds of satellite internet connection.
One in which you have a satellite transciever, in that your connection upstream and downstream is via satellite, and at broadband speeds. There is usually an inherent latency involved with even modern satellite systems which generally mean its not suitable for gaming.

Another is when you have a satellite reciever coupled with a modem. In this, your upstream is sent via the modem, and you download via the satellite.

So - to answer your question - there is no difference between one form of satellite connection and a typical 'broadband' (you probably meant to say DSL/Cable) connection.

My guess is that on your budget, the only satellite solution available to you would be the second one i mentioned. They typically wa in at the same price as a typical small-business cable connection
