General Gaming / Music in games
« on: September 04, 2007, 02:15:39 PM »
I found myself searching and extracting music from various games last week. Some tracks appeal me cause they are nostalgic to me, other cause they are just jewels to listen to.

Some games I found nice things in:
    Command & Conquer
    Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
    Earth 2140
    Total Annihilation
    Homeworld: Cataclysm
    Baldurs Gate: Throne of Bhaal
    Lomax
    Doom
    Doom II
    Guild Wars: Nightfall
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    Unreal Tournament[/li]
And I'm looking for suggestions. Good soundfonts are welcome too as some games use midi files.

Also, if you ever wanted to have a piece of music from a game you own on your playlist, but can't get it out the game, be sure to tell, maybe someone knows how.

I get the images right in my browsers if I use the option "View Image" after right-clicking,  just left-clicking on them goes wrong.

The text page is the image, saving the link target with a .jpg extension gave me the image on my disk. The browsers give text cause the page is text/html instead image/jpeg. IE also says it's text/html, but figures out it's an image and displays it like that. IE has the habit to correct errors. The pro being the site is displayed right, the contra being that errors remain unnoticed.

« on: May 13, 2006, 08:58:02 PM »
I know mac's, I know darwin, even ran it on my pc before apple had its intel based computers in the stores. I know that linux only is the kernel. (I actually find it offending if people think I'm -THAT- stupid, I knew that when I was 14 years old) Actually, if we're going to nitpick anyway, I often refer to POSIX Osses, I never mean windows with it, while windows NT in fact complies with POSIX.1, should I be more specific here too? ... I run OpenBSD with turned out the one I liked the most of the BSD's. And I've been comparing the GPL and BSD licenses, I know them well enough. Something that shows how irrelevant experience can be, I would not make mistakes some profesionals do regarding these licenses. (like making GPL'ed code closed source) No, I don't think I'm misguided in any way, I've kept myself well informed about the present and the past.

That reply is a bit sad ... They are yelling around that linux is just the kernel in the basic documentation of many linux distro's and you knew I ran my own compiled linux (easy as pie, but may suggest that I know what linux is) and was messing around with FreeBSD, 2 years ago.

Sigh, I so hate this. Whenever you make a little stupid post on some game forums, there's always someone that can't read it. And somethimes I'm shocked to see who. Perhaps it's my fault, but it's so freaky irritating.

Yet another reason to buy a mac.

Ffs... a mac instead of a windows box?

Don't get me wrong, mac's are fine. But -just- as well, is windows and the pc.
If you're on windows already, then going to mac makes as much sence as trying to have a hamster growing wings by throwing it of a skyscraper.

Caps, you forgot to put it in CAPS. And it's sooo small, and ... , eh, just make it make it like this next time:
_ L I N U X _  O W N S _ !!!! _[/span]

Acting like a fanboy really can satisfy sometimes.
And yes, I like purple, matter of taste, just like eveything else I wrote in purple.
"Linux" (understanding the kernel as well as the communety/distro's and all the rest that falls under it),
has its lesser sides too, it's not my taste when it comes to a server OS for that reason.
On the other side, it's always a relief when I'm back in my build with love, O so sweet, linux install.

This guy has another taste for example: http://www.linuxisforbitches.com/

My computer sucks, it's way too hardcore techie for me. You know what it takes to create that stupid cpu? All those thousand millions, perhaps more, transistors...

My 2 bucks, you'll need some time for it and it takes some effort,
to get to know it enough to surpass your windows "experience".
Your sucks statement is nothing short of ignorance.

And, look, if you're happy with windows, or don't have time to learn, please... stay with it. Everything a home user expects from it's computer can be done with windows in one or the other way. Een laptop als "toastie-ijzer" gebruiken en van die fratsen, niet meegerekend. 'tis maar, e, keeskop :P

Well, assuming that there are any decent computer games after NWN2, I doubt game developers are in any hurry to release a product that only runs on one version of a single operating system. If anything we'll get a few years of DirectX10 compatable games (like the old MMX days) that can still run on most platforms but will give special features to Vista users.

-420

If it's correct DX10 only will be for vista, then this seems me a very realist guess on what will happen.

That new games won't run on previous windows versions is cutting in their own flesh for as well M$ as the game producers/developers.

Lmao. I already see it before me, linux/unix with better DX support than pre-visa windows versions. I already can run more of my windows games on linux/unix than on windows xp, now they even want to make it worse.

I have countless cd's/dvd's that only serve a purpose as frisbie. But I do rip any dvd/cd I own to harddisks. As I never had those failing me.

And nwn, I just untar an archive. Takes less than a minute to install nwn, less than a second to delete. And the archive is just 2gb, containing everything. Perhaps you can do this on windows too, with a bit digging into the registry (have fun).

Perhaps we should suggest him to make a 30 second cutscene freeze onenter? I'm sure more "hackers" will get filtered out with a gate like that cause they get annoyed of not being able to do anything at the start and alt-f4 out of the game.

Guild Wars News / Guild Wars: Factions
« on: May 01, 2006, 03:44:49 PM »
You can play faction without the origenal too. Very logical if you see how GW is made.

Ah and faction is too small and too easy. Lvl 20 in no time, many finished it after the second day. Fight for me go like this most of the time: call a target and your henchway does the work. All you need to do is bond them, arrog less than 3 groups a time and make sure you heal someone so you get exp too.

Skills I love: flesh of my flesh and life sheat. Those even do wonders on 55hp monks, as I noticed when doing fow a time with my faction char. Had a funny team in fact, me as bonder Mo/Rt, a heal party spammer water E/Mo, a 55hp monk with brains Mo/W, 4 fire nukers E/Me and 1 ss necro with br N/Me.

Anyone got a birthday present? Or has the Kind Of A Big Addic tittle? Or perhaps someone knows something about obsidian Rt and A armor?

NwN General / Don't uninstall your game!
« on: April 12, 2006, 03:02:14 PM »
I have an easy solution to this. Make a tarball with nwn in it. It's a matter of seconds to install nwn, having all my overides, chars and configs in place. The worse that can happen, is having to update. But you have to do that anyway, if you deinstall or not.

Note: not for users locked up in a windows sandbox.
