Participants:

Doriath
Heaven
Hubba
Soulkeeper
Solid Sanek

Mauraders
Calia
Mo
Xen
Stinger

It was a rough start, and we had a huge server load (45+ players) but we managed to pull it together.

Good job everyone!

Best 3 out of 5

Doriath: 2
Mauraders: 1

This server is light years away from holding proper clan battles.

The following is a list of items that need to be looked at:

1) Lag:  If you notice 40 players on GS it should dawn upon you that there will be too much lag.  Better not have a battle then have a waste of time chaotic skirmish.

2) Player participation:  Marauders had 5 members who all wanted to join the fight.  Unfortunately the Refs were not listening to me when I was trying to work out a solution to get everyone in.  Instead we were all ported to the arena, in fact I was ported after the battle had already begun. Which leads me to

3) Organization:  With 3 DMs one would expect better organization.  Clan battles are more about the Clans and less about starting on time.  You can't just port people into an arena and yell GO...I mean give me a break

Solution to all this.  Think Breathe and Talk.  My efforts to communicate with the Refs pre-battle to sort out these issues were ignored.

You can take my name off the list there since I didn't even participate.
Marauders started this war to create some interesting twists to GS clans.
Until those issues above are addressed, the Marauders will not continue to waste their valuable time.

We were thrown into a pit and someone said GO.  More like a cock fight than a clan war.

The clan that lost the last battle gets ported in first, then the winning team gets ported in and the battle begins. The reason for this is that the clans will start launching catapults at one another or just rush the other clan before the battle starts, if given the chance. It is not poor organization on the refs part, we are trying to compensate for the lack of good sportsmanship on the part of the players.

The Mauraders were ported in all together, sounds like server lag caused Mo to not port in at the same time as everyone else. The reason the Mauraders were not allowed to add another person at the last second is the same reason Doriath had one fewer person last time. We do not show favorites and we are trying to keep things fair for both sides.

If both sides agree, then we can wait all day to start the clan battle if you wish. I just don't want to hear complaints about the battle taking to long to start if we do.

Regarding the number of players and the lag issue, Mauraders chose the day and time.

In the interest of being fair, if I took Mo off the list for this battle I would have to take Soulkeeper off the list for last battle.

Well, anyway i really dont think that is quite as efficient.

May i propose a good way do clan battles?

1.  Have the participants and the refs go on a separate server for the battle. This will help reduce the lag load and will make sure that people are prepared for the battle and are not changing players at the last minute. I believe the only exceptions would be if someone calls in sick, or has to be replaced because of a last minute interuption.
2.  Have everyone go to their respective clan areas manually. As in they would have keys to their area and have to actually use a portal.
3.  Have everyone paralized when they get into the arena. This will entirely remove the chance of having someone start before the ref yells go. At the same time team captains should take attendance to make sure everyone is there. The ref should not shout go untill they are positive that everyone is accounted for.
4.  When the ref shouts go, have another ref unparalize all participants at once.
5.  When players respawn the OnDeath script should send them to a viewing area so that it is impossible for them to cheat and get back in.
6.  When team is entirely gone the results should be shouted to everyone on the server. One ref should promptly post the results of the battle.

Remember this is only a suggestion. Also, everyone please remember this because it has been said before: This is the first war between Godspire clans. That means that people here don't really have a set procedure doing this, so you have to expect there to be kinks that need to be gotten out.

This is the first time I am hearing this.  No need to compensate for anything.  If there is poor sportsmanship then there shouldn't be a war.
teams need to start all at the same time in the same place.  If it was the lag that slowed my entrance then you should have waited.  Nothing wrong with asking if everyone is READY.

Like I said before the war is for the clans not for making deadlines or worrying about complaints for not starting on time.  I counted at least 4 none aligned players who wanted to join the war.  Doriath could have taken one of them...But no one wanted to wait and figure it out and I had one Marauder who hasn't made any of the prior battles waiting in the Halls with no Ref's to explain why he was.

I will hold a councel meeting to determine how we proceed with this war.

So i don't see what the problem was with adding one more player to both teams.

Lack of communication is definately the cause for this.

marauders didn't have to cut down to 4 last time, I'm guessing that the dms had it a lot easier this way:

choose your team, FIGHT

OK, here are the changes I propose for the next battle (please reply with your opinions Doriath and Mauraders)

1. Regardless of the time/date set, if the server has 40+ players on, we will postpone the battle until the server has fewer players. (this may mean setting a new time/date)

2. All players who will participate in the battle will be ported to one of the private arenas. A leader for each side should be chosen for that battle.

3. In the private arena both Doriath and Mauraders "battle leaders" will decide how many and who will participate in the battle.

4. Once both sides agree that they are ready, they will be asked to hostile each other and team up with their clan mates.

5. Both sides will then be transported simultaneously to their respective sides of the team duel arena.

6. You may not use the catapults or cross the bridge into the central area until one of the refs yells "GO". (though you may buff up yourself and your teammates) If anyone uses a catapult, then both sides will be asked to rest before we begin.

7. A ref will shout "ready", "set", "go" only after both battle leaders have messaged that their side is ready.

Any suggestions, opinions or haikus?

Bout dang time this was worked out. Only thing is i think that instead of it being 40+ to rescedual duel it is made 30+ or exessive lag (a lot of mages and clerics in the hall)

Nice to hear that we've won this time!! Cheers fella Doriathians!

And its good to hear that changes are being implemented to improve the battling.

I've missed out on the last 2 battles, but from what I have been reading, the same things tend to be what people feel are overlooked

And one more thing to think about, should the catapaults be disallowed altogether?

Though I applaud 420 for his scripting the catapults....I do think they should be reworked with a limited range/ limited number of tagets and what not.

why not just close GS down to the public i mean COME ON this battle lasted what...all of 5min...i think ppl can wait 5min for the server to be reopened to the public. give a 15min warning that the server will be restarted WITH A PASSWORD, and then the password is given to the participating members. give another warning 5min prior to the shutdown. BING BADDA BOOM no lag, and no "delayed portalling" plus, we can then use the "better spells" that cause lag in the first place (exempting Hellball of course).  it's not like ppl haven't had to do without GS for awhile because of a server crash.

PS: plz tell me why this wasn't done in the first place...

Mostly because we haven't asked Talon to do that yet. If anyone sees him on, ask him about passwording GS or maybe bringing up a second passworded server for the clan battle.

ThrobbleServ is not capable of handling that load. The lag would be much, much worse. Besides, we need all of Talon's yummy character checks, and we don't have them. All you l33t haXORS would surely take advantage of the opportunity.

We'll host a clan-battle mixer if folks are interested, but we won't be hosting the battle.
