Not so fast.  Zero day security bugs exist in Safari.

Don't let the Apple spin-machine take you for a whirl.
Stick with Firefox =)

Pfft!
Well - when they fix the immediate bugs go for it.
It is truly the best browser bar none.

Performance measured in seconds. Testing conducted by Apple in June 2007 on a 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-based iMac system running Windows XP Professional SP2, configured with 1GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon X1600 with 128MB of VRAM. HTML and JavaScript benchmarks based on VeriTestâ??s iBench Version 5.0 using default settings. Testing conducted with a beta version of Safari; all other browsers were shipping versions. Performance will vary based on system configuration, network connection, and other factors.
In other words, they're full of shit.

From my personal experience of Safari (which is based on konqueror), I find it a lot faster, more intuitive, and with a better and more accurate rendering engine than either Firefox or Opera.

When it comes to day-to-day browsing, it uses less system memory than firefox meaning I can do a lot more, a lot faster without page-swapping.

When it comes to development of webapps, I build for safari off the base, as its less quirky rendering means that my layout is accurate to web guidelines - I then just add the css quirks for other browsers afterwards.

I wouldnt be put off by these security issues in the long term - it was only 1.5 months ago that Firefox had similar issues. Speaking of which, make sure you have updated your firefox recently.

Just give it a whirl when it is released as stable, and see for yourself :)

I probably will, for one. Seeing as I notice how FF and IE run, and might consider seizing another browser if it's worth it's salt.

Compatibility varies, and they said it themselves. So all in all, it depends on the machine you use as to whether it will work with one browser better than another. Then they had the fancy chart deal that helps attract users. Ohh ohh! When you see that on enough websites, the same idea put to use, the "wow" effect wears off.

I downloaded Safari 3 days ago when it was first released.  It's definitely beta software as I noticed oddities right off the bat.  Some iGoogle gadgets didn't work well in it, plus some tables didn't have text displayed quite right.  As for being more memory efficient than FF, I wouldn't be surprised as FF is a monster memory hog.  I just buy more cpu cores and more RAM :D.  Its interface is a little cleaner.

I'm just put off by Apple's holier than thou attitude.  Their Safari web page clearly states "World's Best Browser".  I for one would like to see testimony and numbers to back up such a bold claim.  But Apple is known to be believe that their point of view is the way things really are.  That's just immoral marketing if you ask me.  I'll never bash OS X as I think it's a great OS, I just don't like their attitude.  Most Mac users I know use Firefox and not Safari.

I don't particularly like Konqueror either.  I'm not a KDE fan.  I like Gnome better for some reason.

@HeLL
Maybe I'm tired but I don't see a link anywhere.

Well, if Sir Talon recommends it i'll give it a go.

EDIT: Well im editing this post using Safari. I must say I am somewhat impressed, even being a beta it is much faster. And pages are far more smooth and silky. I am on 1280x1024.

Cheers for the link Matt.

As Mo mentioned, there are known vulnerabilities at the moment that could put your PC at risk.
I wouldnt recommend using it until these bugs are fixed. Having said that, its still probably safer than IE!

Geesh and I just installed Firefox...
My girlfriend recently got an iMac and I am very impressed with it.  Using Macs have always been a bit disorienting but only because I'm not use to them so I've never been out right disappointed.
I'll download the full version when it's released.  I forget about these things so post a reminder  : D

I run a custom install of windows of my own design. I havent had any problems with IE or Fire Fox.
All that interests me is speed and Safari is definatly faster. Good enough for me.

How long is awhile? We just had the discussion about them not being fixed only a week ago.

Well, we'll see what happens. I want to try it, but not just yet.

I think it had actually been fixed before we posted about it.
Just wait until its officially released to be sure it works fine.
