Just to prevent you from being further "embarrassed," I will note that this is how embarrassment is spelled. =)

What a crackhead! *presses ctrl+alt+del and closes this window* oops.

Its such an easy thing to point and laugh at microsoft, its become an E-Culture. But what people dont realise is what microsoft have done for the computer world deserves the utmost respect. Sure theres some buggy ass software. But we probably we wouldnt be having this discussion and we probably wouldnt be playing online computer games the way we do now had it not been for microsoft. Dont forget way back the owner of IBM said therd only ever be a need for 3 computers in the world. Microsoft took computers and commercialised them.

I mean lets look at microsoft windows operating system, you may criticise it, but how would you react if someone asked you to produce a piece of software thats compatibile with any piece of software, with any piece of hardware that is easy to use and user friendly, that is reliable fast and capable of millions of different actions and re actions. Bill gates imo is a genius and he deserves every coin of money hes got.

I totally aggree with Canix all what he says here is true I mean sure Windows has some bugs, but wich program doesn't many games come out with bugs too....and for example on my pc I have windows XP home edition and I have my pc for about 3 years now and in those 3 years I maybe had 3 bluescreens wich required to reboot my pc...oh and I still haven't formated my hdd

Anyways Bill puted the basics for the computer Linux and all the other operating systems just designed a operating system that's more stable, trust me if Windows wasn't invented neither would Linux be.

For me Windows is quite a good operating system, but that's my opinion...

P.S. I just posted that video cuz it's funny to see bills face when the dude said "we invented it but bill made it famous"
For me Bill Gates is a hero and no that's not a joke...

You are so horribly horribly wrong here.

1. Linux is more like Unix than like Windows, and was based on something called Minix that was first published in 1987. Minix itself is very similar to Unix.

2. Unix was first developed in the 1960s, predating Windows (circa 1985) by two decades.

3. The only connection between Linux and Windows is that they run on the same chip set. Whoopee. Linux *also* runs on other chips sets.

There is no questioning the fact that Microsoft has had a huge impact on the way companies do business, and Bill Gates is more successful than anyone posting on this forum will *ever* be. But that doesn't make Bill Gates the inventor all things computer or make Windows the Mother of all OSes.

Good post.  However the above quote is wrong.  It is up to the software engineers to make software and drivers compatible with Windows.  They do so because Windows is what the vast vast majority of computers run.

The vast vast majority of computers run Windows, because Microsoft is the only company on Earth who knows how to market an operating system to the masses.  Right now it's way too late for another company to attempt to compete with MS in the OS industry.  Apple, only now has a slight chance to take some market share from MS since moving to an Intel based platform.  Mac OS now has the possibility to be installed on any x86 based machine, which is the same market MS currently dominates.  Now people just need a good reason to install Mac OS over Windows that over-shadows the reason not to.  That is the fact that Mac OS runs 1% the software that Windows runs.

Funny, that's the year Microsoft has been forced to support Windows 98 to by the international courts.

I'm confused, are you saying that stealing other people's technology and claiming it's your invention are both great things and something someone else would have done if Bill Gates didn't?

That is simply not true, it takes an exceptionally evil person to do the things Bill Gates did. He is a thief and a liar and he has apparently been able to convince some people that Microsoft developed all it's own technology.

I won't say who posted this quote or where but I think it's about time to post it here:
Quote
"I'm constantly astonished that so few people connect thier computer security problems to Micrsoft as the source. If Microsoft had been responsible for building the New Orleans levy system, the city would be under 30 feet of water right now, and its residents would be paddling around in row boats blamming a lack of umbrellas for thier situation. Microsoft, of course, would be busy selling everyone umbrellas at a premium, vilifying water and promising to fix the situation with a new levy system composed of a 30-mile-diameter sealed concrete dome that nothing can get in or out of- especially the evil culprit, water! Meanwhile  the residents would be saying,"Well, it beats living in a row boat, and nobody else is doing anything about it," while forgetting that they paid Microsoft to build the levies that failed in the first place and not contemplating the obsurdity of living in a sealed dome becuase compared to their current situation it would be an improvement."

Nope 420, you completely misunderstood what I said. I don't know where I said anything at all about stealing technology!? I was simply saying, if Bill Gates hadn't revolutionized the computer industry, it is very likely someone else would have, perhaps in a different way, and may have done a worse or better job of it.

I really don't get that quote by Alex St. John.  As I mentioned, you can't blame Microsoft for being the sole company knowing how to properly market an OS.  If someone can't develop and market an alternative, then kindly stfu about Microsoft.  I wonder what OS Alex St. John was using as he was writing that comment.
Bill Gates and company brilliantly built a company from nothing, maybe they understood a few things better than the likes of IBM or maybe they were just lucky, but even so, you need way more than luck to properly manage a company that went through the growth that they did.  In fact they did such a good job that it took the government of the US to step in and make sure that Microsoft didnt end up becoming more powerful than the White House.  The story of Bill Gates should be required reading in high school.
Microsoft is under so much pressure from just about every government, that's it a wonder they can innovate anything at all.  If they do, all the competition starts screaming anti-trust.

That is a horrible idea. I watched his Biography and was bored out of my mind, I think I ended up sleeping though most of it. The Biography of Cernal Sanders, Dave Thomas, and Sam Walton were MUCH more interesting and informative.

I seem to be confusing you in quite a few threads, sometimes it's hard to pick up on the subtler sarcasm that I tend to use to get my point across.

What I was trying to say was that the only thing Bill Gates revolutionized was stealing the intellectual property of others and using it to become the richest man in the world.
