i looked into it a bit more and i think it is only a beta free wow version or something.

so it hasn't been cracked - sorry for my hasty jump to a conclusion - i read a post on suprnova.org which suggested it was cracked.

ok - cracked server means: someone takes the server program and modifies it so that it doesn't check for CD keys or monthly billing. then they serve the program and people can play on their server for free. Her eis a list of some games with modified servers :-


lineage 2
ragnarok online
bf1942 /vietnam
CoD
MoHAA
etc etc

of course, there are a LOT of free servers for lots of different multiplayer game snow. a lot of them with very good playing communities and free rpgers :-

sacrifice
allegiance
stellar frontier
ok.. nwn!
and lots more....

i may have made a htread about this elsewhere anyway.

beta versions are made for testing purposes. The dealer tests the product, but there may still be a lot of bugs that are hard to notice, so the product is tested by ordinary gamers and they report any bugs they find. That's beta testing, though WoW found out that they could make a open beta test that you had to pay money to play in, it cost a bit more then their monthly fee and afterwards ppl don't get the chars they only get a thx for help :)

The private free servers that you've mentioned are from what I know illegal. The game is cracked and then someone hosts a server and ppl play for free even though they originally have to pay to play.
