FFXI in my opinion has to be one of the most amazing MMORPGs ever created.  It is incredibly challenging, exciting, fun and almost always something to do.  It is a great thrilling game that I truly have enjoyed playing.  It has many servers over 27+ and an enormous variety of characters. Please enjoy  :D

i think ffxi and rose and wow are al nice games. But as hubba pointed out they are pay to play, and Im not sure the games are that much better than say lineage 2, gameplay or visually, as to justify paying...

Worst of all, you have to play for ages to level up, by which time maybe the player community has gone to pot, the servers are laggy or the company behind the games are bankrupt... so why invest so much time when i can have a similar exp in nwn..?

So I am kindof just waiting for nwn 2 i guess.. provided it has toolset plus combo moves and better visuals - pls make it anime and not ff8 anime but ff7/pso anime.

FFXI was the first mmorpg I got involved with, so this is just my personal opinion. FFXI definately involves lots of your time, that is why I quit, however it needs this time because it's a very involving game.  FFXI is based around the entire world instead of just leveling, like most of the mmorpgs I've played have been. You do missions for your country, the missions are very interesting and have involving plots behind them. Unfortunately, you need to have a certain level to do some missions. To get from rank 5 to rank 6, you must be at least level 55. This was a huge let down because I achieved rank 5 at about level 30. Also, in FFXI you have to rely a lot on other people. You need to have a good LS (linkshell) or a good group of friends so you can all support eachother. You cannot solo your way through the game, like in ROSE or RO, or else you will have a miserable experience. EXP is really only a small part of FFXI, thus when you log on it's almost like going into another world. This is why FFXI takes lots of time and is an addicting game.

Course it's free, for a while too, i said it in the Rose section, also though the games are P2P they are really fun and i don't mind coughing up every last cent to pay  :P

Rose won't be free forever, it's in beta right now. Rose is different from games like FFXI or NWN. Rose will never hit the shelves, it'll always be a game you have to download. Of course, once it's out of beta, then you'll have to pay for the download, but I'm sure private servers will be made like with RO.

well that is great because FFXI sounds like a fabulous experience.

Esp because you learn to make friends online and play in rpg.
Each player can seek his own experience, but it sound slike FFXI is pretty unique.

thanks!

And as earlier stated, is it pay to play?

FFXI is impossible to create a Private server for, and you have to buy it like WoW, it is on sale now for 30 bucks and also the expansion is 30, BUT you do not, i repeat DO NOT need the expansion if you don't want it, it is only if u want to do some extra stuff, it will not cause any errors, and it is 12.95 per month to play, 1 dollar extra per each new character, you'll learn how each race has different advantages, i recomend the strategy guide, i have both 2003 and 2004 versions of it  :)
