Really bad bug
« on: April 17, 2005, 12:19:37 AM »
Ok, this one person left the server, but his body didn't. Then when I rejoined I was in his body, I could move him and see all his stats, everything somebody said I heard twice. My character turned headless. When his body was stoned it stoned me. I have a screen too. I dunno if it's from the server or what. But it's badass.

That's me in his body looking at my headless self.

It's an old lag problem, been around since NWN came out. I once banned myself because I randomly possessed the player I was trying to ban. It's pretty rare now but I suspect Bioware never got all the multiplayer wrinkels out.

Not to mention GameSpy is a worthless, bug-ridden service.

I can't understand any lag issues coming from the server.  My broadband connection is at about 5% usage when there are over 20 players online (NWN uses zip bandwidth).  CPU only seems to strain when there are over 28 players...less than 28 and it's full speed ahead on the CPU.

lag caused by bad scripts would lag everyone even me and I never experience lag (except from those commandos, and thats not latency it's just uber frame rate droppage).

If you experience lag or bad frame rate while in the Halls - spread out!
this will help a lot...or go to Angband (respawn is like Halls there again).  Mages go to Spellhold to duel!...this will help

There wasn't any noticeable lag at the time. I'm glad it's rare.

I don't think the lag issue comes from the GodSpire server, I think it's client-side or GameSpy lag.

Client side, meaning some have it, some not. Some players frequently leave an 'empty body' behind. I don't think it is gamespy, you directly connect to the server, gamspy just makes the server lists and stuff.

About lag on GodSpire, the speed of a line isn't the same as the delay on the line. If something between the server and client is overloaded for example, you can have huge lag on the server. While the rest of the net doesn't. Distance is also a factor of course.

Also, like Mo says, it helps to spread over a few areas. It reduce the traffic, lowers the visual load on the clients.
