Monster Manual III this month!
« on: September 04, 2004, 06:35:04 PM »
I decided to post this in NWN General since there is no D&D forum and I personally don't play D&D but I use the official D&D game books to build my modules and adventures.

Anyway, Monster Manual III is comming out this month and it features a bunch of new species of giant, troll, golem, Rakshasa (with white tiger heads or with canine heads/bodies), Ooze, undead and lizardfolk. There also appears to be a new monster type, the "swarm". Also, there are 3.5 updated Yugoloths!

The Monster Manuals have always been my favorite, but I also recommend the Manual of the Planes and the Forgotten Realms campaign setting (if your building FR mods). You can get 3.5 edition updates to these books (if you get 3rd edition versions) at www.wizards.com .

Oh and here, I thought this was quite cool looking:

Don't see his name on any of the pictures (don't have the actual book yet) but a couple of the artists from earlier Monster Manuals are in the new book, Wayne Reynolds and Mark Tedin.

Here is another cool pic, I want to be one of these dudes in a game sometime!

Oh man, I love that stuff.

The new Monster Manuals seem to be pretty good at illustrating almost every single creature in the book.

The old AD&D Monster Manuals didn't, but they had crappy pictures anyway.

Well, a Guardinal is a type of Celestial, like a Leonal, Avoral or Cervidal. Did you have anything specific in mind?

Anyway, on with the art gallery. I heard some people talking on GS about how it would be cool to be a "white Rakshasa" so I decided to post this:

Ak'chazar Rakshasa

That Rakshasa looks bad ass n' all...but what the hell is up with his hands? It's like someone yanked em' outta place and twisted them behind a pole.

Dude, check out his right hand...his thumb is on the wrong side...eh, and his left hand looks dislocated. Looks like someone casted "Greater Wrist Snap", look he's screaming in agony as both his wrists pop like skittles.

What is this, "Gumby Rakshasa"?

Ah, I see Anarki is unfamiliar with the Rakshasa!

*pulls out big pointy hat, half-moon specticals, fake white beard and "eversmoke" pipe*

Loremaster 420 is in the house!

*gestures with hands to stop the clapping*

Thank you thank you...

"Although their bodies are like those of humans, except for the luxurious coat of tiger's fur, their hands are backward (with the palm where the back of the hand is on a human). While this doesn't detract from the creatures' manual dexterity, it makes them look very disturbing to those unfamiliar with them."

Damn, those are the kinda monsters you build stories around. Like you could just picture that Rak pictured above being some sort of assassin, or that boneclaw as a evil wizard or warlock. That's why it's important to have pictures, it adds a soul to the monster, instead of just being a "20ac 4d5 HD +12 ab undead" -- you can actually see the sheer power of the creature. Kinda sparks the imagination.

Fun stuff. Thanks 420 and others for posting pics, think I'll pick up a copy.

That "Grisgol" is scary as hell, some kind of golem made out of magic items!!!  RUN FOR THE HILLS!

I mean a golem made out of mundane iron or clay is bad enough, but one actually composed of magical scrolls, rings, amulets, wands, helm, cloak, belt, etc. is just insane!!!

Can't wait to see what kind of kooky powers it has.

Yes, once again Zen, if you had bothered to read the entire thread before posting you would see that I explain all about a Rakshasa's hands.

Isn't it time someone banned this boys IP address?
