Laptop heat
« on: November 21, 2008, 06:57:23 AM »
So I was wondering what is normal for a laptop when it has high temps?

I was gaming last night on my laptop and the temps were

both cpu's around 80°C
GPU 77°
ACPI thermal zone i think the mobo around 70

idle he's

cpu's 55-60
GPU 50
mobo 50

pretty normal to be so high when gaming or no??

specs are

Acer aspire 5920
2 gig ram
nvidia geforce 8600 GT
windows vista

I use PC Wizard to monitor heat..

80 degrees is a tad high for a cpu.  I wouldnt worry too much about it.  Just make sure the vents are not blocked.  I guess you could buy a laptop cooling pad for when you game.  Never tried those things myself.

hmm, I dunno, I just tried to open the damn thing but it won't lol

First there are like a 12 of those thiny screws and when I un-screwed (LOL) them all I don't know how to open the things...

As far as I can tell my cpu's were always something between 75-80 degrees when I gamed, but you gotta also take in account that my room is like 20 degrees cuz it's cold here when the heat ain't on....

That doesnt sound too bad for a laptop. I once ran my gpu up to 100c because i forgot to turn up the fan setting prior to gaming, and im on a desktop. I found that out when I suddenly heard the cooloing fan going to high speed in short spikes. So if you are really worried about it then try turing up the fans a little before gaming, assuming that you have not already tried that.

I think the fans start automaticlly when the temps rise, cuz when you just surf around or working on the laptop you don't really hear him at all and the temps are then around 45-50° max, everything

When you start to game you hear the fans kick in.

But what I noticed is that when I play WoW i get max temps of 65-67° for my cpu's and my GPU, but when I play NFS Undercover (the newest NFS) i get spikes of 77° on my cpu's and GPU

Last night I got artifacts on my NFS while my gpu was 70 or so....

Really weird..
