Changing domain hosts
« on: October 06, 2008, 06:03:42 PM »
Well Yahoo! is deciding to increase the price of renewing domains names from $9.99 to $34.95.

Needless to say I will be switching registrars shortly.  This may result is some downtime.

----
Thank you for contacting Yahoo! Small Business Support.

I understand that you have some question on renewal of the domain. As
per the records for your account, we see that your next billing cycle is
on February 2009, and its true that you will be charged $34.95 for the
renewal of the domain as the domain renewal price has been changed.

Why $34.95 for renewal?

Yahoo! is a  reseller, and we are reseller for our parent registrar,
Melbourne IT(MIT), recently there was a hike in renewal price as well as
for a new domain price in MIT, that is the main reason as even we have
to hike the price for renewal of the domain.

Your service includes domain registration AND one domain email address.
You are charged $35 per year for renewal. We will no longer offer your
Yahoo! Domains service to new customers. We will continue to support
your existing service and it will be automatically renewed each year 15
days before the anniversary of your original billing date, at the
then-current price, unless you tell us to cancel the service

Please do not hesitate to reply if you need further assistance.

Why down time? Shouldn't we still be able to connect to the site through the host IP, and bypass the domain? Which, would be you, right?

Not sure if that will work.  There are a couple of website running on my server and Apache uses virtual hosts to decide which one to serve.  Maybe LM is the default one, if so that would work yes.

Lucidmagic.net seems to be the default.  Typing the IP adress got me the forum.  (http://206.248.136.142/ worked for me right now) If you have a static IP adress we will be able to get here without problems.

i do have a static ip.

In any case I wouldn't expect downtime to be serious.

He pretty much has to have a static IP address to be hosting anything. I'll probably still visit during the downtime then, don't know about anyone else. ;)

Ok well not sure if some people notice the goDaddy home page which replace the forums for a few hours, but the transfer is completed.

Way to stick it to em'! If it weren't for the fact that I've slept till 1-5 P.M. the last few days including today.

Four days off of work, been sleepin' in and stayin' up.
