Need Info on Wireless Routers
« on: September 06, 2008, 04:10:26 PM »
My father-in-law wants to set up a wireless router and asked me to recommend brand names and capacity (speed?). I know jack shit about wireless routers because I always assumed they sucked for gaming.

Can anyone enlighten me on anything I should know about buying and setting up a wireless router?

As you probably know, I've had pretty bad luck with those things.  I'd choose Linksys if you ask me.  Check reviews on www.newegg.com and see which ones people recommend.

I have this model and have never had an issue with it. Although I hate wireless and have never used it for wireless, it has otherwise had no problems and works magnificently. (Ironically, I got it as an extra in something I bought off of Ebay, I wasn't even buying the router...) It's got good reviews and is 17x award winner, if that means anything to you.

I definitely recommend Linksys, regardless of the model.

My advice: Use a wired connection as often as you can. If it's not necessary for a computer to be on wireless, hook up a cable.
