Lucidmagic migrating to SMF
« on: February 24, 2008, 01:26:31 AM »
Hello all,

I will be converting the board from Invision to SMF.  SMF is free so I'll be able to always stay up to date with the latest releases of the software without having to pay over $100 (Invision).

After the conversion you might have problems logging in (password might be lost), in that case you'll just have to reset it by submitting your email address.

Let's shoot to update by some time tomorrow or Monday.

Ok.  Everything should be converted properly now.  If your password no longer works, reset it using your email address.
I can be reached at admin@lucidmagic.net if you require help.  Let me know what you think of the new board.

How do I embed attached pics into the post? There doesn't seem to be anything similar to the [attachmentid=####] command.

there's a little picture icon that you can click that adds "img" tags.

But how do I point it to an attached image?

Also, I can't upload any images larger than 128K.

-420

EDIT: Tried uploading a smaller pic got this error: "The upload folder is full. Please try a smaller file and/or contact an administrator."

So far, I'm not thinking SMF is an improvement.

EDIT EDIT: If I get an error while trying to post and I hit the browsers "Go back one page" button (the big green arrow) it won't allow me to edit the post. The post is lost and I must try to create it again from scratch. What kind of newbs designed this program?

Well it certainly is an improvement. The difficulties you are having are related to setting/permissions that are improperly set.  That would be my fault =)
I can't think of every setting that needs to be tweak that's why I rely on you good people to inform me on where the problems are and I'll do ahead and fix them.

I'll get to the attachment issue after I finish work today.

I think the IMG tag is for pointing to a URL that is a picture.

Mel, I got rid of that Admin Discussion forum.  As you noticed it was empty and useless anyway.

I think the IMG tag is for pointing to a URL that is a picture.
OK, here is the process I got for embedding attached pics:

1. When creating a post click on "Additional Options..." and use the Browse button to attach images.

2. Post

3. Right-click on attached image in the new post and choose "Copy Image Location"

4. Edit post and use IMG tags with the copied URL

It's a crappy work around and the pic still appears at the bottom with the attached files but it will do the trick until a better solution comes along.

Well it's quite possible that the "insert image into post" feature isn't available with SMF.  If you just can't live without inline images why not use a service like Image Shack or something?

Going home now.  Will fix the attachment errors.

Testing Attachments.

Looks like I can't add more than 10 per post. Which means the named item guide can no longer be updated.

It comes with a few skins that you can change to.  I'll have a look for others later on.

I saw that I had 1 new message but when I checked it the last message I have is from July '07. I know there were newer PMs than that before the forum migration.

Hmm I couldn't tell you, I just deleted all mine. It seemed like I had a lot when I checked them.  Didn't notice the dates.

Just got this error while trying to post updated 1.2 patch notes for Hellgate: London:

The message exceeds the maximum allowed length (20000 characters).

-420

EDIT: This looks promising: new forum feature coded - ability to inline link attachments!

Is this something you have to do on your end Mo?

EDIT EDIT: Check out this action: SIMPLE MACHINES FORUM ADDONS

The mod at the very top is Inline Attachment Images Plus

I've increased characters allowed in posts by 100x.

Inline pictures now available.  Thank you 420 for finding the package.  I've attached instructions.
In it's simplest use

Code: [Select]
just add the tag [attach=number] where number is the 1st 2nd 3rd etc. attachment.
