Music in games
« on: September 04, 2007, 02:15:39 PM »
I found myself searching and extracting music from various games last week. Some tracks appeal me cause they are nostalgic to me, other cause they are just jewels to listen to.

Some games I found nice things in:
    Command & Conquer
    Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
    Earth 2140
    Total Annihilation
    Homeworld: Cataclysm
    Baldurs Gate: Throne of Bhaal
    Lomax
    Doom
    Doom II
    Guild Wars: Nightfall
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    Unreal Tournament[/li]
And I'm looking for suggestions. Good soundfonts are welcome too as some games use midi files.

Also, if you ever wanted to have a piece of music from a game you own on your playlist, but can't get it out the game, be sure to tell, maybe someone knows how.

Video game music kicks ass.

Here's a couple good ones I don't see on your list:
Halo
Perfect Dark (for N64)

Emphasis on Perfect Dark, the music in that game kicked ass.

Finding video game music? Well, there's a good site that can aid in that, if you don't already know about it.

The best video game music comes from The Neverhood. All of it was written by Terry S. Taylor.

I never played any of those games on Mel's list except for the last three. And yes those last three have amazing music.

I'm gonna recommend some Final Fantasy and other RPG music to you. You can find a lot of it over here: Blue Laguna Along with many other great games that have awesome music. I just gotta say this too; I've been playing a old SNES game called Actraiser and it probaly has the best music you've ever heard in a SNES game.

Also, if you like anime; you can find lots of songs over here: Gendou
You gotta register though.

I have to agree that is one of the greatest musical scores in video game history. I like any music I can march to, like Primus.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert (Opening theme)
Planescape: Torment (Especially the theme for Ignus)
Neverhood (like Cuchulann said)
Full Throttle (Band: Gone Jackals)
Quake (Band: Nine Inch Nails)
Sam & Max (Music Here)
Bioshock (excellent choice of classic songs)

@Mercy
Most of them, but the top 3 would be this: March to Doom, Industrial, Air Strike.

By the way, for those who don't own the original C&C, you may want to check the offical site, you can download it for free. And I should get my hands on a Red Alert CD, I bet I'll like this Russian March.

It rocks seriously. I had bought a Westwood pack (before EA.) The creators of C&C. And it came with a soundtrack that had it all on there. I used to jam driving down the road to it lol.

Oh, I forgot to mention the music from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, for SNES. It had some pretty catchy music. Mushroom Kingdom was a good one, and a certain trouble theme, had some other cool ones too.

I think the best music was in FFVII almost all the themes were good, then in Chrono Trigger (SNES) and Chrono Cross (Psone) aswell.

Chrono Cross was the Chrono Trigger sequel that never came out in Europe, so i dled it and played it on the psone emulator, that game seriously rocks... Shame it didnt come out in Europe, it has a 10 on a lot of review sites, like gamespot, well actually i think its the only psone rpg that has a 10.
