Computer Stuff now moderated

To help deal with those bots that actually make it through email verification (there are some that do),  new topics in the Computer Stuff forum (cause they all seem to post there) require moderator approval.  This shouldn't be a big deal as I check the boards rather regularly.  Can HeLL and Throbble please provide me with an email address where notifications of topics awaiting approval can be sent to.  Of course only if you wish to receive these notifications.  As the PM system is still broken, please send that info to admin@lucidmagic.net.

I get so much spam though, hopefully I won't delete any when doing my regular inbox purification. Well, it's not too big of a deal come to think of it, as long as I notice that there are some, it shouldn't matter what it says, I think I can check that here. I'm uncertain how this version treats moderator approval sections, but I'm pretty sure I can do everything from here. It probably invisies them. Older versions had the moderator CP, and Mod Querie.

As far as I can tell you need to check the forum for new unapproved topics.

Then that's nothing to be concerned over. If I see an e-mail, then I'll know to look, and don't even need anything else from the e-mail. Perfect.

Anywho, why are you enabling topic moderation? I mean, if a few bots from time to time (as you make it sound) get past the e-mail verification, that's not hard to take care of. If it's a mass assault of numerous bots, on the other hand, then I understand.

There should be an option to force a members first post to require moderation...but alas...nada in this as far as I can tell

Then create a seperate member group. Make the default member group require at least 1 post to create new topics. All new members would therefore have to post one time and then would automatically be placed in the 'privileged' member group, that can do what regular members now can. This would make it so no bots could create a topic without first having made a regular post, and most bots don't post in topics, they create their own. I have seen very few that posts in existing topics.

So, after 1 post a new member would automatically be moved to the correct member group, and the main problem would be solved.

I don't see why not... all you do is create a second user group, give that one all of the current member groups permissions and settings, and move everyone over to that group, while disabling the default member group from being able to create new topics. And then setting the default user group to where any member of the group, after having made 1 post, is automatically moved to the new user group, which is the new regular member group. I'm pretty certain you can do it here, actually. Now, I don't know if you can do it this way, but it would be easier, and that's if you can set any new user group you create, as the default group... and then just do what I said... it would just make it so you don't have to move all your members over. (which also isn't that hard, no matter how many members we have)

Hmm true...except for the fact that I don't think you can automatically move member to different groups.

No, you can't that I'm aware of. There should be features for moving members though, I believe. I'm sure something like "All members who:" and then having an answer like "have a post count of _ or more" and then you just set that to 2 or something (to leave bots in the default user group, and members with 0 or 1 post only. Then you move them and proceed. I'm not saying there's a feature exactly like that, but I think there is something, dunno, I'd have to see it myself. I think older versions have something like it, I can check in a moment. Though if you can just switch the default user group to a new one, you don't need to move anything. This is a pretty simple method, I'm just not sure of all the details with this specific version.

Well, I don't see any such feature in an older version, but you'd think they'd have one in newer ones. Might not be that easy, I guess. But if there's a feature for switching default user groups, or moving members, (probably a method like I suggested) then it would be an easy fix. If not, it would be slightly more work, but the concept would be the same and it would work the same.
