Viacom sues Youtube for 1 Billion $

i just saw this and think its a bunch of shit. If youtube has to start moderating what is uploaded they will get next to no business because all the good stuff (illegal stuff) is what people watch, including me. This better end up being nothing and not effecting Youtube.

What did you expect to happen when YouTube sold out to Google?

Gotta make one of those fancy tos's and shit where they completely cover their ass, and essentially say they are not responsible in any for anything uploaded on their site. And have no responsibility to remove it, or be held liable for it.

But seeing as the site would be under their ownership etc. etc. I'm uncertain if they could pull that off and have it work to begin with. At least, in entirety I mean.

Google deserves this.  They've done next to nothing about the hordes of pirated videos on YouTube and reap handsomely off advertising revenues from stolen copyrighted material.  They need to pay big time.

What on earth are you guys talking about. These criminals, and the people that created youtube,  are making and have made an absolute fortune off other peoples copyright.
The ONLY reason youtube werent sued previously is because they had no money. People have been sitting back waiting for one of the big three to buy them and then sue them - thats whats happened here.
I hope that all copyright owners do the same, or at east establish a relationship whereby their costs are covered by the advertising on the youtube site. Maybe it will even reduce the duration of commercial breaks in traditional media (although thats usually when they start a new channel :()
Sue away, I know I would.

I probably would sue if I had any real reason to but without the copyrighted stuff YouTube is useless...

Maybe if stuff like anime was more reasonably priced I would buy more. Common prices are like $20 or $30 for 4 episodes of a series, thats rediculous. Hence why iv watched a few hundred episodes of stuff on Youtube, they wouldnt get my business anyway

The difference is noone has ever made $1.65 billion out of selling a torrent tracker to google.
For google to have been stupid enugh to buy it, I hope it really hurts their pocket.

I'm not worried about the difference, just happy to have something to fall back on when the going gets rough. Ahaha.
