Men and women are both scum, it's just that men let it all hang out (like some other things that "hang out" on men), while women are able to channel their scumminess into long-term, Machiavellian schemes.

As for Elessar's opinions, I think they aren't so much feminist as enlightened. This whole machismo shit about him being a feminist (or possibly even a woman) is a good example of how men let their scumminess just hang out for everyone to see.
