oooooh.... that is not good. You can play without it though, but BzK's problem must be different, because if a patch stopped it from installing it wouldn't matter because the version is before the latest patches. So a patch wouldn't be able to unless you bought a brand new one. Hmm, weird issue. I think I confused myself.

for clarification: I wasn't seeing the peglegs, so 420 suggested a reinstall, then when I tried to install it says "insert play disk" but it doesn't seem to run even if I go into it and click Autorun

Yes, none of us use the playdisk. That's why it was so shocking that Throbble's play disk no longer worked when the 1.67 patch corrupted her install and she had to reinstall NWN from scratch (like I suggested to BzK). Fortunately when she went to reinstall and her play disk didn't work she was able to use my play disk to complete the install.

I'm sure Bioware or Atari will replace defective/broken disks for you, just got to figure out where to send the old disk.

Also, there was something about a problem with the play disk and certain brands of DVD burner. If your installing from a DVD burner BzK, try upgrading it's firmware to the most current version.

Hell, you don't seem to have the first clue what we're talking about.

I will say that my problem is different than BzK's though, in that the installer runs the play disk, churns for a couple minutes then says "Installation halted. Delete everthing in the c:\Neverwinter Nights\NWN directory."

Well, you said the playdisk wasn't working, as such you could have easily meant you tried putting it in and playing. Since you didn't say anything about it not working for installation, BzK did.

That's why I pointed out the part about the patch, in case someone made the connection that the patch could be the problem, when it couldn't be for BzK's install, because the disk version wouldn't have the latest patch, which is why it would be different from your situation, if you were just trying to use it to play, and someone thought it would be the patch making you unable to do so.

Now if you can undesrtand what I mean by all those words you'll get what I meant, if not oh well.

BzK, I guess if you have more than one rom drive, you could try installing using the other one/s.

Elessar, there aren't any bubbles jeeze. =P

I have countless cd's/dvd's that only serve a purpose as frisbie. But I do rip any dvd/cd I own to harddisks. As I never had those failing me.

And nwn, I just untar an archive. Takes less than a minute to install nwn, less than a second to delete. And the archive is just 2gb, containing everything. Perhaps you can do this on windows too, with a bit digging into the registry (have fun).

Lmao. I already see it before me, linux/unix with better DX support than pre-visa windows versions. I already can run more of my windows games on linux/unix than on windows xp, now they even want to make it worse.

Well, assuming that there are any decent computer games after NWN2, I doubt game developers are in any hurry to release a product that only runs on one version of a single operating system. If anything we'll get a few years of DirectX10 compatable games (like the old MMX days) that can still run on most platforms but will give special features to Vista users.

I keep trying to find a good reason to buy a mac.  Finally with Bootcamp you will be able to boot up with OSX or WinXP, eliminating the software problem.  But in the end there's something about being able to custom choose every component that goes into my PC that keeps me from switching over :P

Ffs... a mac instead of a windows box?

Don't get me wrong, mac's are fine. But -just- as well, is windows and the pc.
If you're on windows already, then going to mac makes as much sence as trying to have a hamster growing wings by throwing it of a skyscraper.

Caps, you forgot to put it in CAPS. And it's sooo small, and ... , eh, just make it make it like this next time:

Acting like a fanboy really can satisfy sometimes.
And yes, I like purple, matter of taste, just like eveything else I wrote in purple.
"Linux" (understanding the kernel as well as the communety/distro's and all the rest that falls under it),
has its lesser sides too, it's not my taste when it comes to a server OS for that reason.
On the other side, it's always a relief when I'm back in my build with love, O so sweet, linux install.

This guy has another taste for example: http://www.linuxisforbitches.com/

My computer sucks, it's way too hardcore techie for me. You know what it takes to create that stupid cpu? All those thousand millions, perhaps more, transistors...

My 2 bucks, you'll need some time for it and it takes some effort,
to get to know it enough to surpass your windows "experience".
Your sucks statement is nothing short of ignorance.

And, look, if you're happy with windows, or don't have time to learn, please... stay with it. Everything a home user expects from it's computer can be done with windows in one or the other way. Een laptop als "toastie-ijzer" gebruiken en van die fratsen, niet meegerekend. 'tis maar, e, keeskop :P

If it's correct DX10 only will be for vista, then this seems me a very realist guess on what will happen.

That new games won't run on previous windows versions is cutting in their own flesh for as well M$ as the game producers/developers.
