Old Fashioned Fighters Club
« on: April 09, 2006, 07:47:48 PM »
Well, today a new guild was created, and is in the final processes of it's creation.
The Old Fashioned Fighters Club is, like it's name implies, a guild based on an older, simpler style of fighting.

The guild is all melee, no spells, almost no buffs, and there are many restrictions. Many classes are disallowed for use in the club, and any character that is allowed to fight in the club must first go through evaluation and checked over.

The guild has it's own dueling rules, it follows all of the general GodSpire dueling rules, but with the addition of many. Guild members have guild characters, and then general GodSpire characters. The difference is that the general GodSpire characters are not allowed to participate in guild duels.

Guild getogether duels and meetings are held in a specific place. The duels can take place whenever more than one member is present. And can fight anwhere where allowed, with the duel manager, preferably halls, unless it's a getogether duel.

The guild consists of a council, which is made up of the three founders:

--HeLLMasteRHeLL
--Elessar
--Brona

The restrictions and requirements to join will be posted later by Elessar.

Any questions, please ask.

Hello Folks! Putting up the Character Restrictions for OFFC. They are stringent, and before anyone can join, the character they are submitting for the guild must pass these stringent requirements and they will not be admited without an okay from Hell, Brona and myself.

Quote
OFFC Restrictions:
Allowed Classes:
Barbarian
Fighter
Monk
Paladin
Ranger
Rogue
Assassin
Blackguard
Champion of Torm
Dwarven Defender
Weapon Master

No Spells.
No Concealments.
No Spell-Like Skills.
No Heals.
No Ranged Weapons.
No Hiding.
Ranger Animal Companions are allowed.
Blackguard Summons are allowed.

Reguarding Levels:
Monks may not take more than 20 levels of Monk.
Everyone must take atleast 5 levels of each class they take.
ex. You may have a character with 15 levels of monk, 10 levels of barbarian, and 5 levels of fighter, but you may not have a character with 27 levels of monk and 3 levels of fighter.

Banned Feats:
Devistating Critical
Crippling Strike
Self Concealment
Epic Dodge
Empty Body*
Divine Might
Divine Shield
Divine Wrath*
Disarm

*Indicates that the feat is automatically given with certain classes, but may not be used in battle.

Item Properties:
Damage Bonuses may only be Slashing, Bludgeoning, Piercing, or combinations of the three.
No Holy Avenger
Armor Level restrictions apply. Level 5 characters can only wear level 5 armor or less. Level 22 characters can only wear level 22 armor or less. Level 23 characters or higher must still wear only level 22 armor or less to agree with Godspire Rules.

Remember, we're straying away from magic to the good old days of 'I hit you, and you hit me.' fighting style. Any questions or comments concerning these restrictions, direct them to Hell, Brona or myself!

Good, those are the restrictions. Also, "Epic Body" should be "Empty Body"

Actually, I don't have a word of the day calendar. I have a french vocab calendar, and the dictionary.com word of the day (rusticate) but none of my own. :)

Nice guild.  I submit my monk Orka. (20 monk/6 fighter/14 dwarven defender)

ps. you should probably not allow monks in your guild as they will most likely never lose to any other class with your restrictions in mind.

Also why would you not allow melee feats such as dev crit, crippling strike disarm etc.?
There is nothing magical or extraordinary about them.  They just reflect a certain knowledge and skill in melee, something this guild is based on.

Lastly with the restrictions on dmg types, you'll find that a character with huge damage reductions will be very difficult to beat.

Orka, will probably fit in nicely, make sure you have some proper, dam wise, gloves.

Monk is allowed, 20 max.

Why not allow damages? I dunno, it was elessars idea. But base damages are allowed, so you could add slashing piercing and bludgeoning.

Crippling strike? It lowers str, that's just what we decided lol.

Disarm, I wasn't even sure if it worked or not, ask Elessar on that one.

Dev crit we decided to have restricted, but overwhelming etc. is allowed. Mainly because chars will be easier to hit without buffs or conceal and spells, and also massive crit on weapons is allowed, so we restricted that dev crit.

Well guilds like this have been tried on GodSpire before.  Unless you limit AC on items to 5 AC  (like pre-hotu) every match will be 20 rolling to hit.  Even a char like Joe Fixit who has the highest possible AB with no buffs, hasn't a prayer to hit a monk and even if he does he aint' doing much dmg.

So really either you're a weapon master or a monk.  But in the end it will come down to who has more DR and HP :P you'll find good builds in this guild to be highly unoriginal.

If you don't allow other dmg types be prepared to do 20 dmg on a dd lol

Well, we'll see how things work out. I guess if things are dull, we can change things around to make it work. Nothing has to be a permanent restriction, if it seems better for something to change, it can be done.

I made 420's head hurt last night when he tried to convince me that it would be better with elemental damages as well.  :P

On the Monk, we knew we'd have to put a level cap on it, but it was Hell who suggested 20....my original cap was 15.

If you were sitting in NWN with a sword, would you know how to make it hurt people you hit with fire damage? or cold damage? or would you understand other types of damages at all? Frankly, I'd say no, lol, so for now its just the base damages, and if it gets utterly rediculous we'll change the limits around.

As for a character having Huge Damage Reductions, I pointed this out, but Hell thinks it won't be too much of a problem considering they'd probably have to give up other things like extra ab, health, ac or other things. But I know its too much, a character with the most possible DD levels would have 21 points of damage reduction taken off, and that's a lot. I know it's probably a rule that will be changed.

I was concerned on the AC front, and yeah, it's probably going to come down to such battles if we don't restrict AC, which we probably will, considering the highest unbuffed ab I've ever gotten before is 59, which doesn't help since most characters have at least 80 AC...

I made up rules for a guild about a year ago based on no buffing I'll see if I can find them.
Otherwise a good 20 roller duel is as good as any....just take out monk all together  :D

Yup, Alchemist's Fire, not a magical substance but it can add fire damage to a weapon.

This balance wont work.
You will need to allow elemental damage types - fire, cold, acid, and sonic

After a few battles, I have learned two things:
1.  Monks are over popular :D
2.  Dwarves are the same size as humans.

This will need help.

Are you aloud to have ab bonus on your weapon: like a wm would have 60+9=69?

or is the max ab 60?

And elessar either you didnt start with 19 str, your not half orc, or you dont have 28 wm.then your build should have 60 ab.

2. No Empty Body (E.B.)
3. Hordes of the Underdark characters are allowed with exceptions:
   a. No Self Concealment (S.C.). i.e.: Rogue, Assassin, Shadow Dancer etc, achieve S.C. at Epic levels and Shadow Dancer Shadow Evade is not allowed.
   b. No use of Epic Spells. i.e.: Hellball, Greater Ruin, Epic Warding etc.
4. No use of any buff spells. i.e.: Prayer, True Strike, Improved Invisibility, Divine Favor, Keen Edge, Regeneration, Sanctuary, Spell Mantles etc.
5. Summons/Familiars are allowed and can be buffed with exceptions:
   a. No buffing the Summon/Familiar with spells that may enhance the caster. i.e.: Prayer
   b. The Summons/Familiars are not allowed to buff the caster.
6. The use of spells that decrease an opponentâ??s abilities, skills and feats are not allowed. i.e.: Prayer, Bestow Curse, Negative Energy Burst, Enervation etc.
   a. This also includes Word of Faith and Darkness.
   b. Spells that Paralyze, Stun, or Reduce Movement are not allowed.  i.e.: Sleep, Web, Hold Person, Balagarnâ??s Iron Horn, Power Word Stun
   c. Shield Damage spells such as Death Armor, Acid Sheath, Wounding Whispers etc are allowed.
7. Allowed Misc.: Taunt, Bard/Curse Song, Barbarian Rage, Dismissal/Banishment/Turning spells, Shifting, Knockdown, Disarm, Stunning Fists, Smite Good/Evil, Crippling Strike, Epic Critical Feats, Arcane Archer Bonus Arrow abilities, Hide in Plain Sight, Death Attack, Divine Shield/Might, Bloody Frenzy, Lesser/Greater Dispel Magic, Holy Avenger.
8. Not Allowed Misc.: Any spells that are gained as feats that meet the same descriptions as regular spells are not allowed. i.e.: Assassins gain the ability to cast Darkness and Ghostly Visage along with other spells and classes.  On Hits, Shadow Daze, Invisibility, Mordenkainenâ??s Disjunction.

This was made before I had HotU. Then and still now I know little about 20+ characters so those are left vague.
The idea was to put a handicap on magic in general, while envolving all classes(and to get rid of true strike). Then again a high ac mage would take a while for a 20 rolling fighter to kill blah blah blah....
