mkay, after not being able to even see my server, and not being able to direct connect i went to bioware's FAQ and found out i had to port forward, they provided a link: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers...nter_Nights.htm

i opened up those ports and port forwarded them and i opened up the ports mentioned in the 2nd post on the first page of this: http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.ht...4&forum=49&sp=0

i can see the server now...but i can't connect (Time Out Failure)...so...what else do i need to do <_<

*yes...i tried connecting multiple times....

Crazy, i only forward port 5121 (server connection port) , dunno why they tell you to forward all these other ports, it's not really recessary.

You seem to get timeouts on a lot of different connections :P
Can anyone else connect?

Are you running the server off your pc or another computer.  What is the local IP of this computer.  Try connecting using your local IP, or browsing the LAN section of the gamespy connect.

ahhhh...too many questions!!!

I can connect to ANY other server just fine...and i tried 5 times to connect to mine to no avail. and i'm using the same computer that's used to fill the forums with my 'joyful' posts :P

(on a router(that's not my own :P))

you sure it's not 192.168.2.7?

did the direct connect...didn't work
and 19.168.....is the IP i was assigned
i even tried the TCP ports that was mentioned in the bioware thread i posted earlier...didn't work





*on the positive side....at least now i can play MechWarrior 4: Mercs :P  wish the router had a preset for NWN like it did MW4 :(

I don't have a good experience with that belkin router, that stands in the faq. But well, I don't like hardware routers with too much functions on them. My "stupid" nat router, only has to forward 5121 to have nwserver working normally, including posting the game on gamespy. Anyway, if you have a belkin router (maybe on others too), look for an option "Filter Internet NAT Redirection" and disable it, if your router has that option and if it's enabled, it may cause problems if you host something.

If you forwarded all the ports correctly, and it doesn't works. Then check on your server, if it's firewall isn't blocking it. (disable it completly and try to connect then, if that works it's the firewall) WinXP SP2 has a building firewall too, don't forget that one if you have WinXP SP2.

If you still think it's the router, most include an option to forward evry connection made to 1 host, like if the computer was directly connected. My router calls it DMZ.

i pinged 198.168.2.7 and got a TTL expired in transit, yet i didn't lose the 4 packets sent, i pinged 127.0.0.1 and got TTL=128 on all four
and i do have Norton IS and i did allow/permit nwnserver to access the net

you were able to ping the server properly meaning you didn't get any timeouts?

Please have someone try and connect to your server through the Internet and let me know what happens.

Well normally you have a certain amount of bandwidth you can use per month then you pay extra when you go over.

Anyway NWN uses barely any bandwidth at all.

heh, ya I have ports through my firewall and portforwarded through my router now, same crap I still cant host a server, what are people going to tell me now, cuz ya cant blame the router or firewall anymore.

DoS = Denial-of-service, it's a methode to attack a computer running a service. (but well, there isn't any attack at all) Anyway, those ip's hardly can be of a nwclient connecting to your server, it are ip's that belong to your provider (just like your ip does). It are ip's from poeple useing the same way to connect to the net as you (Cable). So the problem is something else. (or did you only expect a load of poeple useing the same cable as you to connect to nwserver?)

About NAT, if you share your connection between more than 1 computer. Don't disable it, NAT is what makes your router a router :P. If you disable it you'll get the same effect as with DMZ, exept, only 1 computer connected at the router can have net at a time. You can try to disable NAT and connect then useing your WAN ip adress (default gateway ip). NAT is also the reazon why you have to forward ports to serve.

And other thing you can check, is if the server is really running 1.66. Just had someone that *couldn't* host because the server was 1.65. (if you can't direct connect useing 127.0.0.1 as ip if you play and host on the same box, then that may be the case, otherwise it definitely isn't)

..f*** it i'll just get a Game Server that's hosted by a company.....this is total bullshit...Microsoft once again knows more about port opening...  :angry:

Ok.  Please take screenshots of your router config pages.  List all IPs of all computers on your network.  Post this info and we'll figure out your problem.  In the mean time try this:

Turn off Norton Internet Sec on your server.  Also turn off the DHCP server on your router.

ok i don't understand.
You're piggy backing on someone else's wireless lan.  you say you can't turn off DHCP because it's not your router.  But you were able to set up port forwarding.

Anyway I'll tell you what your problem is, your settings are obviously incorrect and/or your firewall rules are too strict to allow (even yourself it seems) access to your server.

Solution: Get your own internet connection, and continue from there.

Ugh, I had missed a couple ports, I made another sweep... added them.. alls good... guess what? I still cant host - _ - Dammit. I put ports through both firewall and router just like I did nwn for some other programs that didnt work, since they couldnt get through... they now all work... sept nwn dammit.
Well I found this site, extremely useful, I had to make some changes, did everything it said for my specific router, and the ports etc. even though I didnt have to make many changes from what I had already done, I still made a sweep over everything following it's exact directions... still nothing... dammit.
