well nwn2 is supposed to be nwn with better graphics hopefully and new classes yippie. Ofcourse there'll be changes, one is that they wanted there to be quick functions to certain attacks, like:

twice forward = power attack

The only real change you can expect is graphical improvement and a great campaign, gameplay will ofcourse be maintained that's what keeps us playing.... that and all the friends you get :D

Would be interesting to know if we can swim or climb in NWN2 or if birds or other creatures that can fly are able to fly across chasms or water or even gates/walls  :)

Well if anyone looks on the nwn2 forums then they would know what is goin on :). The leveling idea at the moment is 20 again, with 5 sub- levels for each level. At each sub-level there is something you gain, I.E. a stat, or feat or something else.

so let me just get this right, lvl 20, each lvl has 5 sub lvls, which now means that there are 100 sub lvls for lvl 20? h3h3

KILL DIALOG.TLK/2DA/OTHER HARD-CODED STUFF.

If they do that, NWN2 would be much, MUCH better.

Just imagine epic spell slots (or even so feats that allow spells to go past lvl 9), more metamagic feats (DC raiser = heighten), and just a greater ease of creating custom content.  Sorry, that was a rant...

NWN 2 had better have some changes diffrentiating it from NWN 1 or it will have no meaning. I hope these developers know what they are doing. If they ruin the title of Neverwinter Nights 2 I wouldnt be suprised. I just hope its gonna be as good as everybody says. But its still a long way from release so nobody knows a damn thing everything is subject to change. ^_^

Dont forget about the new version of DND that will be implemented in nwn 2. What do you guys think its going to be like? will there be any real diffrences?

From what I've read NwN2 will use the Aurora engine, so there'll be limits to the technology, which un-fortunately means little chance of birds flying over canyons, swimming or an end to hard-coding.

-Aljn

Update: I just got this from the NwN2 Forums/FAQ

Quote
q16. Will NWN have z axis for climbing, flying/levatating, jumping, etc?

a. Jason Keeney: A "z-axis" is not some kind of discreet, tangable thing that is the means to any kind of gameplay end. There is no "z-axis" plugin that we can add to the engine that suddenly makes possible flying, jumping, deformable terrain, spkie pits, swimming, climbing, multi-level walk-meshes, falling, hovering, etc, etc, etc...

All of these kinds of gameplay elements are separate and independant from one another. They will or wont be included in the game for a variety of reasons, possibly technical, but even more likely for their impact on the gamepley.

Its entirely possible that we'll inlclude flying and climbing, but not jumping and swimming... or there will be multi-level walkmesheshes, but no hovering, etc, etc, etc....

For each gameplay mechanic the term "z-axis" has a very different meaning and consequence. Simply calling out for it in general is, at best, hopelessly vague.

If you want to see flying.. ask for flying. If you want climbing, ask for climbing. Its going to be a waaaaay more productive discussion.

[Update Jan, 2005] Jason Keeney: There's not much in common between placeing a "placeable" and moving a creature in the middle of a game. A function like "ActionFlytoLocation" woule be, unfortunately, unrealistic. Flying movement instead of pathfinding? What if there's a building between where you are now and where you want to go? What if another creature gets in the way? No, some kind of path validation is pretty much a requirement for all movement.... scripted or otherwise.

Flying also presents a huge problem as far as player control is concerned. NWN's "click to go there" style of movement is not only certain to carry over to NWN2, but its also likely to continue to be considered the "standard" form of movement. To be able to control flight to some arbitrary location in the sky would be ackward at best..... how do you click on a point in the sky?

Now I'm not saying that there *wont* be flight... I'm just playing a little devil's advocate to remind you guys that many of your propositions have consequences that reach far beyond the immediate problem. It does little good to solve one problem if that solution adds two other problems somewhere else.

hope it helps

Well I highly doubt Obsidian will ruin NwN2...Bioware did KoToR, and Obsidian did KoToR 2...KoToR 1 was good, awesome even, but KoToR 2 is the fucking best ever. Its seriously high ranking, its my number 2 game of all time, first being nwn ofcourse. Obsidian will most likely blow nwn out of the water with nwn, i put money on it.

Hey.. some guy said 'no 2da's no tlk'.... suppossedly coz its hardcoded... well the 2da's and the tlk are the only not-hard coded things, lol

Anyway.. It will only have lvl 20. I think it will have less classes and all than nwn with all its expansions. I also doubt NWN2 will have any expansions.
Prolly it will have less creatures and voice sets, but the ones that will be there will be much more detailed and better in general.
I heard some disturbing rumors that portraits will be removed and will use some in-game screenshot or something.. :bleah:
The scripting and stuff will have tons of new functions and some old ones will be gone.

Just what i think i heard.

Lol, of course it's hard coded :P.  It's the same technology used in Baldurs Gate I.  It was good then because computers simply weren't powerful enough to handle all the soft-coding.  For those who have modded the Baldurs Gate series - if you wanted to add dialog, you had to do so by editing an external file.  I think that's a sign of hard-coding.  Why do you think Bioware implemented epic spells as feats instead of epic spell slots?

In any case, this SAME technology was used in Baldur's gate I - pretty obsolete don't you think?

Jason Keeney

this guy is a dink...

why can't the fly action be carried out like walking so if you have a building in the way you fly around it like a placeable in the way when you walk...and rather have point and click movement make it so you have to use the arrow keys to fly so you don't have to "click on a point in the sky..." which will also give some sense of skill to flying.
