Team Invincible / Survivors
« on: August 06, 2009, 10:17:56 AM »
Well Tristam almost died twice last night.

Finally made his way over to Lion's Arch.  Time to plan his route through Kryta down to Sanctum Cay.  Figured to make stops at Bergen and Temple of the Ages with a slight detour to kill that pesky Galrath for 4,000 exp.

Galrath was quite smart to seek protection from the Cult of Verata.  Man those folks are nastty.  I don't know how many distinct mobs of them there are but I got them merged into one giant mob.  I tried pulling some but they all start coming down with the mesmer's quickly slowing me down to a crawl.  I barely escaped with my live.  Anyway I ended up sneaking by them (Almost killed Verata but he escaped) and dispatching Galrath.

Tristam made it to Sanctum Cay some time after.

Before bed I decided to go Charr huting in the North in Hard Mode.  I got the Seige Devourer (very cool) but still got stuck on a mob of Charr archers.  They wiped my party and then ganked me.  Even though I had 1,000hp, man it dropped like a ton of bricks.  I was hardly able to hit Guild Hall.  Man that was close.  If there was any sort of lag or my mouse slipped, he'd be dead.

But he's not and still kicking.  200,000 exp.

Ready to do Sanctum Cay then Crystal Desert.

Guild Wars General / 20/20 + 20/20 != 40/40
« on: July 27, 2009, 04:10:09 PM »
So for some reason people are under the impression that a 20/20 wand + 20/20 focus gives you 40/40.

I knew there was something wrong with this assumption because if I flip a coin twice the odds of me getting heads once is not 100%.

50% + 50% != 100%

You can't simply add probabilities like this.  Since my stats class was so long ago I couldn't come up with the answer off the top of my head.  So I looked it up and it seems like this is the answer:

p(Either A or B or both happens) = p(A happens) + p(B happens) - p(Both A and B happen)

and p(Both A and B happening) = p(a) x p(b)

works out to 20% + 20% - 4% = 36%.  I actually thought it would be lower.

So the final word on 20/20 wand + 20/20 focus give you a 36/36 !

Just an FYI:

Deaths due to mission failure (i.e. due to loss of a mission-critical NPCs or locations) or resignation (the "/resign" command).

Will not count as a death.

Unless you're like me and have a hard time replaying shit unless you wait a good year or two to do it. Depends what it is a little bit though, shooters have easy replayability. I'm still blastin' shit full of holes the second time through.

I got a new 21.5 inch monitor. Woo! Nice replacement for my 11 year old HP Pavilion monitor. -Shut the fuck up, Mo. I don't care. =P

Hahah you know what they say about people with big monitors!

Feedback & Community / Why was LM down?
« on: January 10, 2009, 04:53:15 AM »
I'm sure most of notice LM being down for a few days.  I had some server trouble.  Had a run-away log file eat up my whole filesystem causing some corruption here and there.  LM was hit.  Anyway noobish mistake on my part to have the logs in the main filesystem, I'll fix that shortly.

I was out of town since Wednesday, so that's why I was unable to fix it until now, didn't have the time.  Everything should be here. Let me know if you notice anything odd.

News & Annoucements / Changing domain hosts
« on: October 06, 2008, 06:03:42 PM »
Well Yahoo! is deciding to increase the price of renewing domains names from $9.99 to $34.95.

Needless to say I will be switching registrars shortly.  This may result is some downtime.

----
Thank you for contacting Yahoo! Small Business Support.

I understand that you have some question on renewal of the domain. As
per the records for your account, we see that your next billing cycle is
on February 2009, and its true that you will be charged $34.95 for the
renewal of the domain as the domain renewal price has been changed.

Why $34.95 for renewal?

Yahoo! is a  reseller, and we are reseller for our parent registrar,
Melbourne IT(MIT), recently there was a hike in renewal price as well as
for a new domain price in MIT, that is the main reason as even we have
to hike the price for renewal of the domain.

Your service includes domain registration AND one domain email address.
You are charged $35 per year for renewal. We will no longer offer your
Yahoo! Domains service to new customers. We will continue to support
your existing service and it will be automatically renewed each year 15
days before the anniversary of your original billing date, at the
then-current price, unless you tell us to cancel the service

Please do not hesitate to reply if you need further assistance.

NWN 2 General / Multiplayer anyone?
« on: July 31, 2008, 03:38:31 PM »
Well I've been playing the Single Player campaign recently.  After all the patching it seems to be finally playable.

I was wondering if anyone had any interest in playing a multiplayer mod?

General Roleplaying / 4th Edition
« on: July 23, 2008, 04:18:07 PM »
I just heard today that 4th Edition was released about a month ago.  Looks like an almost complete rewrite again.

Gone are many classes and races.  Feats take a backseat to "Powers".  Gone are spells as we used to know them as well as multiclassing as we used to know it.  Saving throws are different and even alignments were redone.

News & Annoucements / Server rebuilding
« on: March 27, 2008, 01:39:10 PM »
LM backup was restored.  I doesn't seem like much was recovered from the 25th.  I'm not even sure how many posts there were that day but I think there were a couple.

In any case I got a new hard drive.  I will image the server either today or tomorrow and restore it to the new hard drive.  Hopefully there won't be any corruption transfered over, otherwise I'll have to rebuild from scratch which will be a tad annoying.

You can post as normal.  I do not believe we will lose anything further from this board.

I will be in Salt Lake City until Thursday.  Should a disaster strike the server it may remain down until I can get to it.  Just forewarning worst case scenario.  I don't expect that to happen.

News & Annoucements / Lucidmagic migrating to SMF
« on: February 24, 2008, 01:26:31 AM »
Hello all,

I will be converting the board from Invision to SMF.  SMF is free so I'll be able to always stay up to date with the latest releases of the software without having to pay over $100 (Invision).

After the conversion you might have problems logging in (password might be lost), in that case you'll just have to reset it by submitting your email address.

Let's shoot to update by some time tomorrow or Monday.

Random Ranting / The Brain
« on: January 25, 2008, 12:34:15 PM »
[attachmentid=1559]

If you see this lady turning in clockwise you are using your right brain.
If you see it the other way, you are using left brain.
Some people do see both ways, but most people see it only one way.

See if you can make her go one way and then the other by shifting the brain's current.
BOTH DIRECTIONS CAN BE SEEN

Experimentation has shown that the two different sides, or hemispheres, of the brain are responsible for different manners of thinking. The following table illustrates the differences between left-brain and right-brain thinking:

Left Brain    -               Right Brain

Logical         -                Random
Sequential     -               Intuitive
Rational          -              Holistic
Analytical         -             Synthesizing
Objective          -            Subjective
Looks at             -          Looks at
   Parts                -              wholes

Most individuals have a distinct preference for one of these styles of thinking. Some, however, are more whole-brained and equally adept at both modes. In general, schools tend to favor left-brain modes of thinking, while downplaying the right-brain ones. Left-brain scholastic subjects focus on logical thinking, analysis, and accuracy. Right-brained subjects, on the other hand, focus on aesthetics, feeling, and creativity.

Hellgate: London / Game Thoughts
« on: December 02, 2007, 02:35:23 AM »
Ok well just finished the game.  So I'm back to the start on Nightmare Mode.

Thoughts on game:

Overall the game is pretty fun, though by no means has it been memorable or set any standards.  Why?

Well the storyline is pretty good, unfortunately the game seemed too shallow and never really lived up to the potential.

Biggest negative:  Level design.  Repetitive.  Too much of the same tilesets.  So many levels look identical.  Diablo 1 had more interesting levels.  I want to fight demons in Hell not in sewer after sewer after subway tunnel.  That being said, where were the flippin' demons?  Besides a couple of bosses this was basically Resident Evil: ZOMBIES and ghosts.

Quests were pretty bad.  Always the same crap.  This is a negative in basically every game these days though.

Bugs...yup too many and super annoying ones too.

Ending...shit.  Yes we know there will be an expansion, give us a right and proper ending anyway.  Fuckers.

Overall the game is too easy.  3/4 of the way through, due to the repetitive level design, I just wanted to get to the end of the game in hopes of actually leaving the sewers and train stations and going some place interesting. Alas that never did happen.

News & Annoucements / Server listens on port 80
« on: November 07, 2007, 11:01:06 PM »
Some of you noticed that the forums appeared down for a few hours today.  In fact the website wasn't down, it merely wasn't listening on port 8080 the way it has for the past few years.

For the past couple of month LM has been on the default www port of 80, as well as 8080.  For some reason the site on 8080 was down.  I did not notice because I no longer go to that site.

Please change your bookmarks for the site and remove the 8080 in the URL.

If for some reason you can not reach the site on the default port, then try 8080 again.

Thanks,

Mo
