I'm very comfortable with the keyboard. From a gamers view there is one flaw, from the left, the "ctrl" key comes after the "fn". On linux I can use the "fn" as "ctrl", so this flaw is limited to windows. (i.e. who cares)

About wine; it is not a windows emulator. *shoots Mo death* It is an extra layer between the application and the system. Layers for the sake of compatibility exist in windows too, in all shapes and colours. If a program runs with wine and how, highly depends on the application and the user configuring everything. In my case it is unreasonable to use windows for anything aside from supreme commander.

I can't resist, I want to troll too and I just have to post what's going trough my head while reading posts in here. ^_^

Let me start with linking a post: [snapback]38061[/snapback] . I still remeber the whole context well.
And then with pulling something out of its context. My eyes just fell on it when viewing a post here.

I was already thinking "too much information" while viewing the post. Then you get this:

All that a "common sight"? (public, middle of the street?)

Most of the time it is possible to set the false information aside from the correct one. Without having to go trough the whole process of proofing everything yourself. Being capable to do this is a requirement before you can do any research.

And no matter what someone says, Einstein's theories do not belong in a context about false information. The results of his research are clearly visible in our world. His work wasn't completed and can be improved, that is as far as you can go.

There are cases where death is partly caused by a lack of regeneration. But I think you have the wrong idea if you think there's a magic key to prevent aging in encouraging cell reproduction. How more divisions, how bigger the chance on bad mutations. Cancer for example, is nothing but bad or uncontrolled cell division caused by mutations. Also, if you for example take good care of your skin. Then less divisions will happen cause there is less damage. But taking good care of your skin would make it age faster? I highly doubt it.

Definitely interesting, but 400 years seems me too optimistic. Wurms aren't much more than a stomach with some support here and there (forgive me wurms), making those life a few weeks longer is something else than having a human life for +315 years. Doing mutations on genes may have unwanted side effects too. And following a diet like the wurms, would mean I'd have to keep my hands of the sweet belgian chocolate here. It would already be great if we can give people 5 more years, having less diseases in their old age and make it less painful. Over 50 years the life expectancy might be 100 for the better off population on the planet, if we didn't do some apocalyptic stunt by then, like blowing up the composition of atmosphere.

By the way, this isn't exactly "news", this experiment that made wurms life longer is from 1993. Last I heard of it was in 1999 or 2000. The research now, seems to aim for understanding and protecting against cancer.

Yep, DirectX 10 only works on Vista.

Windows 2000/XP both use the same drivermodel as Windows 95/98/Me. That's why older DirextX versions are "backwards compatible" and for example will work on Windows 98. Windows Vista uses another driver model and DirextX 10 is only developed to run on that driver model.

DirectX 5 and Windows 2000 were made when most gamers used Windows 98, so DirectX 5 was made to run on Windows 98. And for the sake of not reinvinting the wheel, Microsoft used big parts of the Windows 98 driverarchitecture for Windows 2000. The drivermodel used for WIndows 98 was developed for direct acces to the hardware. The Windows NT line didn't allow direct acces for securety reasons, so an extra layer between the driver and the hardware was created as solution in Windows 2000/XP. Something extra means slower speed and more problems. This model with layers can't keep up with the brute force of the new GPU's, so in Vista they changed it.

The following might explain the slower speed too:
    Windows 2000/XP:
    Direct3D app -> Direct3D runtime(encode) -> (decode)Kernel mode driver(encode) -> (decode)GPU -> screen
    Windows Vista:
    Direct3D app -> Direct3D runtime(encode) -> Kernel mode driver -> (decode)GPU -> screen

And ofcourse, a second reason and public secret: when DirectX 10 only works on Vista, Vista will sell better. Knowing Microsofts history, it's just normal that they like it this way.

It has the potential of becomming an effective way to get hydrogen out of water under certain conditions. I agree, that it should be researched. But saying that water can be used as fuel by burning it is a lie and leaving out other information (like the critic, the infancy of the work, the release of toxic chlorine) is disinformation. Like it stands there, a person could start to think that in the near future he'd be driving his car on salt water.

Maybe I should ignore things like this, but I hate how the media/internet reports things with a lack of knowledge, present it wrong and out of context. It's wrong to do so.

I was just confused.  "Hydrogen out of gas"? Well Hydrogen is a gas so that's a little confusing.
I ment this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_gas ; lots of hydrogen in it.

And why I doubt the article ... I'll give it a quick shot, using basic knowledge of chemistry:

No matter how people do it, to get H out water you need to break the H-O bounds, and that requires a lot of energy. (I'll go out from a ideal and impossible 100% efficient methode to break it. That's better than whatever the article possible can be.) You gain the energy back when you create the H-O bounds again, but as with everything, you lose energy in the process (as heat for example). Even this way: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_cell , you'll lose quite a bit and it's more efficient than burning the hydrogen. There's just no way energy can be gained as described in the article. To gain energy, you'll have to use the hydrogen for fusion. But that's not buring, it isn't a chemical reaction to start with.

On the side, but on topic: One of the reasons petroleum is so awesome, is because it's childs play to get energy from it. The C-H bounds are relative easy to break by burning it (burn means recombine with O), creating H-O and C=O, especially C=O gives a lot of energy in the creation, and requires exactly the same amount of energy to break it. That's why CO2[/span] is one of the most stable molecules there exist, and why we're stuck with so much CO[span style=\'font-size:8pt;line-height:100%\']2[/span] in the atmosphere. It's also why photosynthesis is so awesome. And why hydrogen alone isn't going to make your car drive like it's doing with petroleum products. Hydrogen alone can't hold as much energy as your fuel made by distillation of petroleum. Even our body likes to make CO[span style=\'font-size:8pt;line-height:100%\']2 to power itself. (and hydrogen definitely can't be used to make many of the synthetic materials comming from pertoleum, finding another energy source is just one of the problems we face)

Feel free to kill me if you can point out a real error in my thinking here.

    "One Piece"
I didn't appreciate it, watched a bit of the start and left it. On the other side, it started running in 20 october 1999 and episode 324 aired today (16 september), so you can say it has succes. Basicly it's an action shonen anime. The genre of naruto, bleach and dragonball z. As with other anime of this genre, you have a boy with a goal and some power, some skillfull people that join the main character and loads of enemies to fight. If you like this genre, then I suggest you watch a couple of episodes and see if it entertains you.

That quote is a joke, losing a lot of energy or breaking the conservation law. And never heard of electrolysis. The industry makes hydrogen out of gas at this date, other ways aren't profitable.

Maybe you'll find this interesting, it's more than some rumor:

    Some anime I've seen:
      Serial Experiments Lain
      Last Exile
Now and Then, Here and There
      Haibane Renmei[/li]
Just listing those is pain wrong without giving a bit information on each:

Serial Experiments Lain; 13 episodes. I'd describe this as "weird", it's some cyberpunk, psychological and sience fiction anime that makes you think. It aired between July 6 1998 and September 28 1998 and deals with topics like the definition of reality, what God is, networked society (player killing, friends online vs. offline, etc). There are long scenes featuring unusual camera work, and scenes with little or no dialogue. Nice battles, action, fanservice and lovely couples isn't what you'll see. If this all doesn't scare you away or even sounds interesting, you may want to try it. I completly love the show.

Last Exile (26 episodes) is some steampunk, sience fiction and andventure anime. It aired between April 8 2003 and September 29 2003 and revolves around a young courier pilot, his navigator and vanship (some wingless aircraft). It has some nice looking battles, featuring a rather unique mix of elements; musketeers, flying battleships and vanships. Sometimes the action with those vanships gave me a "starwars deja vu". Although people die here and there (and sometimes it really feels a bit random), there's like no adult content, romance or fanservice. If you're looking for some nice clean entertaining show, that isn't too predictable, having a rather unique setting, this may be it. Just don't get scared away by the opening song, the ending song will compensate for it.

Now and Then, Here and There; 13 episodes. It's some Military, Sience Fiction anime that focuses on what happens in war times. Aired from October 14 1999 to January 20 2000. The first episode starts off as if this is just another anime using the standard and overused themes, having a brat as main character, fighting at school for a girl with an opponent who's better than himself. In episode 2, that brat gets dropped into a completly different world, where water is rare. The world also features a crazy guy that happens to lead a faction and a girl with the power to make water. With those 2 things driving the plot, many different people are show, catched in a war, doing "wrong" things, each for his/her own reasons/ideas. Realistic reasons/ideas, leading to -wrong- actions, including actions that often are condsidered taboo. It's a bit as if some fight-happy "Naruto" or "Ichigo Kurosaki" gets dropped in some sick wrong war where they aren't the powerfull and get to see why fighting isn't as cool as most media shows. If you don't want to be confronted with certain wrong/sick things, stay far far away from this anime.

Haibane Renmei; 13 episodes. Slice of life fantasy anime. Aired between 9 October 2002 and 18 December 2002. Most anime from this type start off with some school scenario, a love triangle and some supernatural stuff to spice up things. First you get to see here is a bunch of "orphan-angel-looking-girls with too-small-wings-to-fly" cause the character designer found it pretty (including halo above their head). You also get a 100% lack of fanservice, romance, violence, speed and fighting. But if the previous sentences don't scare you away, and if you can stand slice of life, then you'll want to watch this piece of art. If you get past the first 4 episodes, you'll be hooked up on it. Because it gets better and better.

Maybe I'll add some later, if I got nothing to do.
