Totally worth it.  I've enjoyed every minute I've played, and I always find something interesting to do.  I was telling Mo last night that I get a little ADD when I play, because every time I see something different to do I want to do it.

Ribs and Enelya meet up in Hoelbrak.  Ene's so tiny next to Ribs!

Sort of an action shot?  Ene's carrying a great sword with the same skin as the fell blade from the first game.

There's another stress test tomorrow from noon-4pm Pacific time tomorrow if you have time and want to poke around and try things out before launch.  I'll probably be on.

Mine is etelrunya.5130, but I don't remember if I ever successfully used that format to add to my contacts.  I always ended up using character names.  Also, character names can be one word in GW2.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to make Enelya Telrunya first, but I'm still debating whether I want her to be a guardian or an elementalist.  I do want to make an elementalist eventually, but I think I'm leaning towards making her a guardian.  I know I'm going to make Gin Swift a human mesmer, and Alasse Telrunya a sylvari ranger though.

You might want to poke through what racial skills are available to each race, because it might impact what profession/race combos you want.

Huzzah!  They recently said that the servers might go up as much as 3 hours early so that they can make sure everything's up and running properly by the promised headstart time, so I might be sitting around that night to jump on (granted, that's only if I'm not working a closing shift that night).  Let me know what name you're using when you get in.  Remember, Isle of Janthir!

There's still a week, so I'd at least give it the weekend to see if whatever issues are going on with their website get resolved.  They usually keep pretty good tabs on problems with their stuff.

dunno what's up...I don't think I had problems when I prepurchased back in April.  I'll be playing on the world Isle of Janthir.  When it does go through, I'd definitely recommend downloading the client ahead of time because it will be a huge initial download.  As in before the first beta, a lot of people had to let it download overnight.

Anyway, can't wait to play with you in game.

Screenshots from the stress test today!  All I did for this was world v. world, which was super fun, even though we eventually lost every major battle I was in.

In the middle of storming the central castle in WvW.  There were a lot of people, so the battle was pretty epic, not to mention crazy to keep track of everything coming at me.  You can see a downed enemy by flank (in the middle of all the fire on the bottom half of picture) - there's an option to 'Finish Them', which sends them right from downed to defeated.

The server that held the keep at the time started to regroup and fend us off...

...successfully.

Here's the map view of WvW.  The green dots are nearby allies, which makes finding teammates super useful if you have to respawn at a waypoint.

Afterwards I went back to see if we still had anyway hope in the keep.  Needless to say, we didn't.

Overall impression of World v. World: hella fun.  We lost each major battle I fought in, but each time we made it a little further into the keep (which is absolutely huge).  The defending players had a huge advantage, because it was easy for them to target us from the walls while hiding from our ranged attacks, but we eventually made it through each gate after enough battering.  While we were continually losing battles, I have two major take-aways from the experience.  The first is that the server defending the castle, while winning individual battles, actually started losing the match overall because they ended up focusing all of their energy on defending the central keep, while the other two servers still had people capturing locations in other parts of the map.  Second: even losing a battle can be super fun.  I don't think I've ever experienced a battle of that scope and challenge before.  There was so much going on, and reviving downed allies was so important, because losing just a few people would turn the tide.  The defending team had a few clever players that placed a lot of traps around defeated players, making it harder to revive them.  Of course, reviving them is hard to begin with because you're so vulnerable while doing it.

Anyway, I can't wait to play some more at launch.

I think Heal and Harm each only did 20hp times caster level, but I think it capped at 200hp.  Or something like that.

Thanks to the generosity of one of my guild mates who spent time maxing out all of his materials, I got the gems/ectos/shards I needed to get a set of Vabbian Armor for my elementalist and my first ever set of Obsidian Armor for my ranger.

You should buy soon and get the 3-day head start.  That way you won't have to worry about making all of the characters you want to use reserved names for at once.  I'm really loving the game so far.  I'll put up a post soon once I organize my thoughts.  Also, I'm playing on the server "Tarnished Coast".  You can guest on other servers, but it'll just be easier if we join the same server.

Meanwhile, more pictures!  I would have had  them up sooner, but I had to file a support ticket to reclaim my photobucket account (the uploads on sm boards aren't very helpful), so I waited.

I started a charr necromancer, but I didn't play very much with it, so this is the only screen shot I have from it.  You can see remnants of the great wall along with some new steelworks built by the charr.

A combat shot for you all (finally).  This is my sylvari ranger executing one of my favorite combos - Flame Trap followed by Whirling Defense shoots flames everywhere.  You can even see a couple of other combos going off of my Flame Trap.  My pet sylvan hound leapt into the field, which game him a fire shield, which burns foes, and it looks like someone shot an arrow through the field and got a burning arrow.

My guildmate and I went back to the jumping puzzle I showed you earlier and managed to finish it.  He did a lot of them this weekend and got really good at spotting the paths through them.  We got an achievement and chest reward when we finished.

A place we found after that jumping puzzle.

These next three shots are from a jumping puzzle in Kryta.  This one had some tricky jumps, but it was super fun.  We actually saw an entire guild working on it together.

Clearly, jumping puzzles are hazardous to your health, as I revive someone who feel a little far on this one.  Also, my sylvan hound can sit on vertical surfaces apparently.

We came out of that jumping puzzle by a village called Wizard's Fief which was near a floating fortress.  It looked pretty badass.  This area is located right around where the Villainy of Galrath quest (that super long one worth 4k xp) takes place in GW1.  I took this during a Vista cinematic of the area.

We stopped to pose for a few pictures, because we thought this place was pretty awesome.

Working on another jumping puzzle in Asura territory.  We didn't finish because the Beta finale was about to start.

So then we waited...

Unfortunately the beta finale was kind of a let down this weekend.  They did a battle royale/hunger games themed team-based elimination match, where we all had shotguns and limited ammo, meanwhile our health slowly declined unless we could eat rations.  Unfortunately they didn't think it through well enough, because after 15 minutes they enabled a death penalty, which meant when you died you came back as a little robot that pooped ammo and could activate shields, which was really, really boring.  My guild mate said that the June beta ended with a battle against zombies, but once you died, you became a zombie and fought against the remaining players, which sounds infinitely more awesome than this beta's finale.

That's all for now!

Last day to log in to reserve your character name is July 31.  That's when they will compile the list that will be reserved for the three day head start+launch period.

I finally remembered to take screen shots!

I'm playing a Sylvari ranger right now.  The race only really affects story, appearance, and starting location, but the ranger is seriously fun to play.  It was a lot easier to unlock skills without having to switch between attunements too, like on the elementalist.

1.  My character by some giant floating rocks.  One of those moments when the environment art just takes my breath away.
2-3.  Those rocks turned out to be climbable, but I don't know what, if anything, was at the top, because the second one was about as far as I could get.
4-5.  Fighting some breeze riders (pesky mesmers in the first game) with my bow and great sword.
6-7.  Aquatic shots from Lion's Arch.  The first one is of the ruins of old LA, the second is a set of docks in the new LA.
8-9.  There are some fairly high elevation points around LA.  The first picture is a Vista point.  They give you a panoramic view of the area, some xp and completion points.  They're often really hard to get to though.  The second is a diving platform in LA.
10.  Reviving a fallen player after an event.
11-12.  More aquatic shots.  No, you can't fight the humpback whale.
13. I just managed to find an aquatic pet.  It took ages to find one, which made fighting underwater really annoying for a while.  It's a blue jellyfish.
14.  A shot of the pale tree, the mother of all Sylvari, in the heart of the Grove.

See, I just take the philosophy that if you don't want to do it...then don't.  If you really want the magic find, then deal with it, otherwise, don't complain, and don't ruin it for the people who don't mind switching their gear to get their magic find.  I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a trade off anyway...

And I sincerely hope you're not still running Windows 95.

I've already joined my old guild, but I believe you can be part of multiple guilds in gw2.  From what I've heard zodiac braves has reformed as well, so I'll probably be joining them too.  If no one else is planning on playing you should just join my current guild - you'll fit right in, you're Canadian.

Well, again, budget, so SSD is probably out of the question right now, and it also means both the graphics cards you recommended are a tad out of my price range.  I'm putting the GTX 560Ti in my wishlist though just in case... It's only another $90 over the GTX 560 1GB card I'm looking at now, but I still have to buy Windows 7, and monitors are annoyingly expensive as well.

I'm not really worried about the PSU being semi-modular, because from the reviews I've read, the only cables they leave permanently attached are always necessary anyway, so I think I'll stick with the lower price.  I'll look into the UPS later today when I have more time.

Thanks a lot for the advice!

Also continuing the thread instead of starting a new one -

I'm taking my first foray into building a desktop, so I can stop pretending to play video games on my laptop.  Since this is a first, I thought I'd post the potential build here for feedback/in case anyone spots some egregious error on my part before I actually purchase.  I probably won't actually start purchasing until the end of the month (cash flow), and I'm trying to keep it under $1000.

Anywho, here are the parts I'm looking at:
CPU: Intel Core i5-3450 Ivy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.5GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory
Graphics: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
HDD: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650M 650W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Semi Modular High Performance Power Supply
Case: Xigmatek ASGARD PRO USB 3.0 CCC-AE37BS-U02 Black Steel + Aluminum and Aluminum Mesh Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I'm getting a pretty basic dvd burner/mouse/keyboard and a 21.5" monitor (although I'll probably snag a larger one if I can find a good deal on one...).  The monitor I'm currently looking at has built in speakers.  I'm planning on putting Windows 7 on it, which hopefully I can acquire cheaply through my campus bookstore...

The only thing I'm currently confused about is the wattage on the power supply.  I had a hard time figuring out if it had a high enough maximum power rating, and when I read more on it, I got more confused.  The graphics card specifies that it needs a minimum of a 450W power supply, but I wasn't sure if that was 450W for the card alone or if a power supply rated at 450W would be sufficient for the entire system.

Any input is appreciated!
