GodSpire General / Godspire Enchanced Edition
« on: April 13, 2020, 01:49:28 AM »
This post is to let any forum lurkers know that Godspire PVP has been rehosted on Beamdog's NWN:EE matchmaking service.  I have done some sanity testing to determine that I believe that nothing is extremely broken but we will only know as player log in and report back here.

It's been many years since this mod has seen the light of day so let's take it day by day and hopefully we can have it working just as well as it was before Gamespy decided to abandon NWN.

Have fun!

News & Annoucements / Moving. Expect downtime.
« on: June 08, 2014, 07:23:04 PM »
I'll be moving to a new condo this Tuesday.  The server won't make the move right away but it will by the weekend.  There will be downtime as the server moves, undergoes maintenance and the ISP moves as well.

I'll try to have the boards up as much as possible and also keep notifications of progress while the service of the board is in flux.

Thanks!

Computer stuff / New monitor
« on: May 18, 2014, 11:17:19 PM »
Well it's about time to spring for a new monitor to go along with my new vid card.  So the question is which one.

I'm thinking about two?  An Asus and a Samsung.  The interesting thing about the Samsung is that it's 4K res.  Granted it's $200 more but that premium for 4K seems pretty good no?

I'm guessing as far as 4K screens go it much be a little bargain basement....but..it's 4K!

Any opinions?

Well we are on a new server.

That being said there are bound to be little glitches as I didn't copy over every last config file and every last setting.

If you notice some issues with the board please let me know.

Thanks!

NwN General / Nice Article about PWs
« on: January 28, 2013, 11:01:54 AM »
Ran across this article today.  Nice to know that NWN (and NWN2) are still going strong.  As a medium for online role-playing, I don't think NWN has seen an equal, and I have my doubts it ever will.

The key to NWN as opposed to the breed of huge MMORPGs that are sprouting up everywhere, was that the NWN PW was a relatively small community, where every characters behaviour could have an intimate effect on the entire PW.  You won't see that happen in WoW.

Diablo III Builds / Orka - Fists of fury (Softcore Monk)
« on: November 20, 2012, 11:28:22 AM »
Legendary martial arts master Orka makes his way to Sanctuary to test his skills against the never ending hordes of the Prime Evils.

Orka will apply the teachings of Master Wughan, so far mastering 3 of the "Six Techniques". Fists of Thunder, Way of the Hundred Fists and Crippling Wave.  By weaving these 3 techniques together, Orka achieves 24% extra damage, via Combination Strike.

Orka is built around speed and the fast paced game play is refreshing after playing Valsu and Minsc which provide a much slower play style.  Orka runs into battle and unleashes combinations of furious attacks.  His current attack speed bonus from gear is +57%, with skill bonuses he approaches 3 attacks per second.

Defense: Survivability mainly comes from Life on Hit and dodge.  LoH is currently at 2530 life per hit.  Taking 2.5 hits per second, it takes 7 seconds to regenerate all his 43.5k hp.  To supplement this, Orka also heals from Transcendence, gaining Life per Spirit spent, currently 87 life (with gear bonus as well).  This healing is very efficient, as Orka gains spirit very fast, due to extremely fast attacks speed.  He is able to spam Mantra of Retribution, which will heal for 4350 hp with no cooldown.  Spamming MoR also has the dual effect of 80% melee damage reflection back to foes.  Rounding out defensive abilities are Serenity - Ascension (flexible on rune), and Seize the Initiative.

Offense:  As mentioned this build centers around Combination Strike.  Chaining 3 attacks, which are all mapped to my 3 button mouse, for +24% dmg.  My feelings around this passive is that it is very nice and fun but comparing it to Barb skills it is still underpowered.  All a Barb needs is one skill, Battle Rage - Marauder's Rage, for +30% dmg, while Monks need 1 passive plus 3 active skills to only get 24%, common Blizzard, balance! Anyway I like this idea so this is the build I'm going with here.

Fists of Thunder - Lightning Flash: Used for nice 16% temp dodge boost while in the thick of battle.
Crippling Wave - Concussion: Enemies hit by any strike here will deal 20% less dmg, the 3rd strike will also slow their move and attack speed. (This attack could be very nicely complemented with the passive Resolve, but I would need to swap out Seize the Initiative.)
Way of the Hundred Fists - Blazing Fists: Woah this is a cool rune. Critical hits give Orka bonus 5% attack and movement speed for 5 seconds and it stacks 3 times for a total of 15% bonus for each!  Orka's critical chance is around 17%, even so his super high attack speed plus the fact that WotHF hits a zillion times during it's second phase, means Orka gains max bonus from Blazing Fists after 2 attack rounds i.e. 1 or 2 seconds.
Dashing Strike - Blinding Speed: This is a nice skill to keep the action going! Orka can bounce around from enemy to enemy.  Using this skill in the Bastion's Keep dungeon I was able to get a very nice 100 odd enemy massacre!  Blinding Speed gives a very nice 20% dodge chance bonus.  This plus, Lightning fists bring my dodge up to over 60% for a few seconds.

Mantra of Retribution - Transgression.  This skill is used for the bonus 8% attack speed.  All party benefit from it as well.  Also it has great synergy with Transcendence as mentioned above.

Deficiencies:  Currently Orka's crit chance is ok because he attacks very fast so it makes up for it being relatively low.  Crit dmg could increase, this would be make biggest change in DPS in my opinion.  Of course resistances are still relatively low.  Increasing those will result in biggest gain in survivability.  Life on Hit could always see increases, ditto with attack speed!

Diablo III Builds / Minsc the Mad Boobarian
« on: October 23, 2012, 02:22:06 PM »
In the course of the last week I've found a couple of nice legendaries for a barb so I decided to finally roll one.  May I present to you:

Minsc the Mad Boobarian (link)

Build Description

Crazy Berserker.  Since he will be wielding a massive two-handed legendary mighty-weapon, I'll focus on dealing as much damage as possible before he inevitably is struck down.  My battle-mage Valsu is spec'ed as a tank also and I don't like character overlap.  Minsc will literally leap into battle and deal the pain.  My current thoughts on his build, include 1 defensive focused skills.  Healing will come from some skill runes.

We will focus on strength (obviously), criticals, vitality and life on hit.

Link to skills

Active Skills

Primary: Bash.  Clobber
Secondary: Rend. Blood Lust
Defensive: Leap.  Iron Impact
Might: Overpower.  Killing Spree
Rage: Earthquake.  The Mountain's Call
Rage: Wrath of the Berserker, Insanity

Passives

Ruthless
Bloodthirst
Boon of Bul-kathos

UPDATE: After playing through Inferno Act 3 MP1, I've pretty much decided on the skills above.  Most important skills are:

Rend:  Big damage and healing.  700% weapon dmg over 5 seconds with around 15% of that (minus Inferno life gain nerfs) coming back as health.  Minsc wouldn't live long without this skill.

Wrath of the Berserker with Insanity.  Insanity increases all damage by 100% for the 15 seconds.  Minsc dps moves up to over 100k with this skill.  Basically I've yet to find any elites that survive the 15 seconds of death and destruction this skill puts out, especially if they get caught in an Earthquake with damage of 4000% weapon and Rends for 1400%.

Diablo III General / Trials of the Hardcore
« on: October 10, 2012, 02:43:43 PM »
Well my HC character, Orka, is currently level 50 and in Act 4 NM having just killed Rak and being retrofitted with brand new items from the AH.

I will probably take a little breather from HC gaming as it got a little out of hand the other day.  My game timed out from Battle.net twice and both times I had just cleared the area of baddies.  Needless to say if the timeout happened 30 seconds earlier..bye bye Orka.

Then fresh off my Azmodan kill and waiting until I hit level 50 before venturing to the AH, I decided to start act 4.  First encounter in Act 4 is Iskatu.  Beware Iskatu!  I dunno why I thought he would be a push over but the increase in monster level from act 3 to 4 is nothing to sneeze at even in NM.

I was promptly surrounded with endless amounts of shades, as it usual for that encounter.  Except they actually hit me harder than I figured they would and my life was draining away.  Breathe of Heaven and then Serenity were both on cooldown and Iskatu was just over half dead but so was I!

In vein I tried to kite but he teleports and those shades come from everywhere.  Skills still on cooldown and I was low on Spirit because I was trying to keep those shades off me with Lashing Tail Kick.

Keep in mind that all this is happening in matter of seconds.  I look up and I'm about 1/4 life and Iskatu is still there and I'm surrounded by endless shades.

Ok so that was a good run! I thought to myself.  At least this will make a good story!  It's just a game!!  As these thoughts were crossing my mind and a wave of calm entered me as I resigned myself to my inevitable fate and eternal sleep, I noticed that I wasn't yet dead.  I should have been, but I was still punching Iskatu.  All of a sudden the will to live took hold of me! Fight Orka! Fight! Don't give up!

It was Divine Protection! As if the gods themselves were edging me on.  The Mantra of Evasion rune (which all HC monks should use!) reduces damage by 80% for 3 seconds when you hit 25% life.

Ok! I will prevail I thought, but how? I'm almost dead and my damn skills are still on cooldown, albeit just about to finish, not fast enough though!  Then as if placed there by the same gods who were protecting me, I noticed a health globe about 100 yards away.  Get it!!! You must get it to live! By now, running purely off instinct and the will to live I activate Tempest Rush with what Spirit I had remaining, to make a quick dash for the life giving health globe.  I made it! Health restored!

Iskatu, probably desperate by now, teleports to me.  Timing was now on my side however as Serenity was available.  I hit Serenity and now Iskatu and his hordes are no longer a concern for me.  I look up at his health bar and he's a half dozen punches from oblivion.

Boom boom boom.  He's dead and Orka prevails!  Wow.

HC mode provides a thrilling experience that's for sure.

Diablo III Builds / Valsu - Battle Mage
« on: August 15, 2012, 10:32:28 AM »
Bio: My character from the original Diablo, Valsu is a master of arcane magics.

Concept: As I already have a ranged character in Tristam, the thought of another ranged character seemed redundant to me.  I therefore decided to make Valsu into a battle mage.  This means he will be most dangerous running into battle and engaging enemies at close range.

Profile
Skills

Strategy: Since wizards are typically pretty squishy, fighting primarily in close quarters should be challenging.  Skills and items will need to be primarily focused on defense and high resistance.

Passive Skills:: We have Blur for extra defense, Evocation to speed up cooldowns and Astral Presence to increase AP.

Action Skills:  My skill bar has pretty much settled into the following skills.  Valsu rushes into battle ideally surrounding himself with foes on all sides.  Frost Nova is used to freeze enemies for a few seconds (they also takes bonus damage thanks to the rune), Exlposive Blast's Chain Reaction begins to damage nearby enemies.  Valsu then starts to rain down meteors.  Diamond Skin is brought up when enemies emerge from the icy prisons.  More Explosives Blasts are unleashed and more Meteors rain down.  It's an AoE damage fest.

Aside from Diamond Skin, Energy Armor is used for defense.

Weapon of Choice: Sword and Shield.

Diablo III Builds / Tristam - Demon Hunter
« on: August 13, 2012, 12:39:23 PM »
Bio: Treasure hunter Tristam makes his appearance in Diablo 3.  A master of ranged combat and stealth, Tristam excels at dishing out punishment before the enemy has a chance to react.  He then escapes from danger.  Tristam's main drive is finding treasure and that is reflected by his use of gear that provides MF bonuses.

Profile
Skills

Strategy: Achieve advantage by dealing massive DPS.  Stay alive by avoiding damage.  Tristam's skills and items are focused mainly on damage and avoiding death by escape.  Tristam's critical hits average 42k dmg, regular hits around 20k dmg.

Passive Skills:: Tristam deals most of his damage by using skills that need hatred, therefore Vengeance is used to boost hatred.  Critical bonuses is also important as the dmg is massive and Spray of Teeth distributes this dmg as AoE.  Sharpshooter is used to increase frequency of crits.  Tactical advantage is used to help escape.

Action Skills:  Tristam tries to deal as much damage to the enemy as quickly as possible.  His two main forms of attack are Frost Arrows and Rapid Fire.  Frost Arrows are particularly useful when enemies are in groups.  Successful Frost Arrow hits not only deal very good dmg but they also always split to hit nearby enemies no matter what angle they happen to be at.  These secondary hits also do very good dmg.  Tristam regularly kills groups of enemies in very few attacks using this method.

His secondary attack is Rapid Fire.  Used to slay a single large threat.  Rapid Fire is not useless against groups but is rather very useful in eliminating Elites and Bosses that typically have high HP and do not come in large groups.  Rapid Fire does a lot of damage very quickly.

Bat Companion is used to make sure Hatred is always high as Tristam is most dangerous with high Hatred.  The rest of his skills are defensive, Caltrops and Vault.

Weapon of Choice: Bows.

Allo,

Finally SMF released the long awaited version 2.0 of their free to use forum software.  We've now upgraded to it.  Registration which has been closed for some time now due to spam bots is now open.  Hopefully the mixed of higher security on the new software and LM no longer being hosted on the spam heaven which is GoDaddy will bring back the calm that existed here before.

News & Annoucements / Lucidmagic presents Legend of the Green Dragon!
« on: August 07, 2009, 04:41:27 PM »
I don't know how many of you remember or even know of a classic BBS game called LORD (Legend of the Red Dragon).  Well it was a very fun game back in the good 'ol days where we had no idea what "The Web" was.

I liked the game so much that I was going to start my very own BBS to host it.  That plan was derailed when a friend of mine who was helping me set up the server accidentally formatted the hard drive.

Oh well.

There is some good news!  The game has been kept around all these years and I just installed a Web version of it called Legend of the Green Dragon.

Great game to play if you're bored at work.  It's a turn based RPG that can be accessed here:

http://lucidmagic.net/lotgd/

Create your character and enjoy your turns in the Forest :O

Please post any questions of comments here.
