Title: Neverwinter (2013)
Post by: Tyrael on March 11, 2013, 06:13:58 PM
I dont know if it has any kind of nda or anything so feel free to delete it if it violates any rules.

Well I dont know if any of you guys still follow this game but just to let you know a friend of mine got the chance to try the game during the last weekend and I watched him play for a while with the skype screen sharing option, cant talk about the graphics as he had all the options in min so it would go smooth with the screen sharing, but I feel really sorry to say that even if its still in beta,  the game is a HUGE disappointment

Feels like a cheap champions online but without the costume generation and no travel powers which was pretty much the best part of the game ( and of course its made by the same guys), also you get a crosshair but like in champions you can only attack if you have a mob in the crosshair or its an aoe.

The foundry thingie is just extra dungeons nothing to do with mods like nwn used to have

For the part I saw of Neverwinter only has the name ( maybe storyline?)

Though I'll still most likely try it some more once its released, so far it just feels like a ramdom action mmo with just a known name, even though the trailers make the game look really cool and all, once inside the game it felt like a complete different story...

Theres still more stuff but I'll just stop here for now :o

Now Im sad :(

I read a small article about it today actually.  I guess it will be wait and see.  But, seeing as it's free to play, there will be no harm in trying it.

Rules? What rules? :D

Wait... you actually thought this would be good?
*Always* expect the worst from these things, it normally is, but if it isn't then you get a pleasant surprise out of it. But... I guess this mentality is expected from someone who typically despises MMORPG's.

Yeah, I had pretty low expectations too. I'll give it a try though. Could have a good single player storyline if nothing else.

I'm surprised no more talk about this.

...but it is pretty fun.

Oh and you don't need to spend any RL Money on it.

Zen can be earned by selling Astral Diamonds, which you refine from Rough ADs (1:1 ratio)...which you get from Daily Quests or from the Profession System.
-Just takes longer.

I think it's in Beta now? I'll likely try the game when it's released.  Though I want to play a Drow and I hear they will only be available 60 days later.

It's in Open Beta. Normally you'd say "so?".

Apparently, Cryptic will not be wiping any characters from the Open Beta. :D

I would expect the Drow and some of the other notable races/sub-races (ie half-[race]) will likely be locked and require a separate purchase.

Hmm I wouldn't mind paying if the game is good...but I think I heard that the premium purchase is along the lines of $200 or something???

Hmm seems like there's a premium Drow class that is part of the $200 Founders pack, but regular Drow race should be available for free.

Alright I'll check it out very soon....Still playing Mass Effect 3...just finished the 2 big DLCs for it. 420 mentioned the last one was really good and YES it was lots of fun :)

For $200 you get 2-million Astral Diamonds....which are pretty much used for everything revolving around the Player.

-Auction House currency
-"Rushing" profession jobs (some take 2-days to finish) or Companion training (can be up to 2hrs [so far] to train)
-Purchasing 'Quick Gear' (just rares. Not Epics)
-Purchasing Zen (if you don't want to use real money)

But it's pretty easy to get ADs...you just have to resist the temptation to "Finish Now" :P

*Special Note: That 2million AD is per account. And is only transferable to one character. But all the profession creations appear to be 'Bind on Equip'. And since every character and 'learn' every profession. You just need those diamonds on your main.

You also get:
-A mount that would normally cost you 2 gold.
-Adventuring Pack, which contains the much desired Identification Scrolls
-A weapon that'll last you easily into mid-20s (means all those weapon drops can be vendored/AH-ed)
-A companion that tears through the enemy

I feel that for $200. I spent money that I had and saved myself the hassle of 'grinding' to auction items for ADs (to buy ID Scrolls; they don't drop fast enough) and for gold.

Mindflayer.

Supposedly they'll be combining all the open beta servers into one...like with STO.

It's about 4GB on disk.

So it shouldn't take long to download...I have to hand it to Cryptic for knowing how to pack the shit out of their games and the updates. Usually a 500MB update only downloads about 200MB of data.

:O

Throbby's gonna play too?

\o/ -YAY!

Like, omi-gawd, it's a reunion!

But seriously, the game is fun. I like the little things like traps being marked in that red column circle like in the NWN version of D&D.

I do warn. The AI, especially for companions, is....stupid. Sometimes the ranged units will glitch and decide to stay with in melee range off the enemy mobs you're attacking. This ends poorly for them.

Currently the max rank for companions is 15 unless you buy the rare (rank 25) or epic (rank 30). They do have 'Training Tomes' in game but they aren't purchasable (presumably with Astral Diamonds); tagged as "Coming Soon".

This struck many as a money grab to force high-leveled players to buy the Zen companions, but at this time there's only two healers. The rank 15 Cleric and the Rank 30 Angel....which requires 360 Ardent coins. That you get once per day for Invoking......so ya... 360 days later you'll have enough coins to buy the only Epic Healer :P

None of that should be a problem even if you two don't run a Tank/Healer combo.

Pro-tip 1: Any items you get from Promos are tagged as "Bound to Character" and will not stack with the same items dropped in game. I recommend using the Bound versions first as you only get small stacks of around 5 or 10.

Pro-tip 2: Leadership profession is the best profession to level first. Most of the tasks it offers reward XP, Coin, and Astral Diamonds

Pro-tip 3: Invoke every time you can. The first time awards AD, Ardent & Celestal Coins, XP, Random 30min boon, and sometimes a few consumables. After that you get XP, AD, Boon, and maybe and item for the next ~3 invokes. Then you just get a random boon. You can invoke at campfires too.

Pro-tip 4: Stock up on the kits (I run 50 each type). Also remember what Skill you have in the Powers tab. If you have 'Dungeoneering' you won't need the Dungeon Kits. I don't what the other skills are, but I assume Rogues would get the skill to replace the Thief Kits, Clerics would get one to replace Religions Kits, and Wizards would get one to replace the Arcane Kit.

Pro-tip 5: If you think a hidden area might have treasure...it probably does; go explore :P

Special Note 1: 'Threat' is kind of wonky. So don't worry if you pull aggro. Every class has abilities to avoid damage; straight up dodges/blocks, or CC abilities.
Special Note 2: "Dailies" seem to reset at 3am EST (12am PST). So make sure you get them done...or else even though the counter will say you've completed, say, 3 runs of this particular skirmish your internal counter will actually be reset. -kind of annoying when you're 2/3 :P

You unlock it at...level 10 (or it might be 11), if you didn't move the default UI it's the UI Element to the left of the Zone Name (above the minimap).

Calia is in the game also.  She's got chars on Dragon and Mindflayer.

Calia...wasn't that person a young lady who played a very mean halfling (kick-boxing) monk? :P

All keys appeared to be used with in 5min of the News post.

Seeing as the codes were placed inside images to prevent Text Mining. It's pretty clear that a lot of people watch for these codes. Probably putting them on accounts to sell later*.

*I think a WoW account with Scarab Lord title went for ~$10,000 USD on an eBay-like site.

FYI: As of today there may be a rollback or, worse case, character wipe.

Apparently there was an exploit that allowed people to post using Neverwinter Gateway auction items for negative Astral Diamond. This would do something...not sure what. But the end result is people were 'printing' Astral Diamonds.

So...420 and Throbble, you two may not have characters when you next login. As you started about the time it [exploit] was ramping up into full gear.

Actually, was the other-way around. A Blizzard Dev saw the D2 crowd, the AH of WoW, saw the RMT of the "Asian games"...then saw Paypal. And was like, "Y we not combine them?". And the Board was like "Brilliant!".

As for better QA? Try better Marketing Departments....MDs that stay the fuck out of the game's development time table.

This is why I'm really happy to see these crowd-founded games like Star Citizen, Shroud of the Avatar, and Divinity: Original Sin. We, the gamers, are Marketing. We know it takes time to make the game. And we don't want a rushed POS product.

Eh, it was kind of necessary...I figured it would be more than 7hrs though.

Really wish the Gateway programmers had put in an error check for:

-negative numbers
-fractions

Those two checks, the fractions just for added stability, would have prevented this entire mess. :\

So far so good.  I'm a level 9 control wiz.

Graphics are good, though I find it lags a lot when there are many players around, typically happens in the city.  I think it's a memory issue.  I only have 4GB of RAM and I notice the HDD is swapping a lot, so that's the cause.  Maybe they could optimize memory usage better.

The game is fun, quests are interesting and you feel like you're having an actual impact on the story and environment.  Unlike GW2 for example, quests do not involve having snowball fights, gathering beer kegs.  Also you can progress from quest to quest without worrying about leveling up.  Whereas in GW2 they forced you to take breaks from the main quest in order to level up.  That wouldn't have been so annoying had the side quests been somewhat interesting.  But they weren't and that made GW2 super boring.  No such problem with NW so far.  It's fast paced.  There seem to be a lot of skills and different ways to progress, but I really haven't gotten too far into that.

You will want the Celestial Coins (you get 2 coin types) for the wards.

If you ever hope on getting the epic Enchants....they have about a 1% chance to succeed :P
Preservation Wards keep the enchants from being destroyed
Coalescent Wards guarantee a successful fusing

The other coin type (Astral I believe) should be saved for the 360 coin Angel. So far the only Epic 'Healer' Companion.

eta: It's not connecting to the patch server so it doesn't want to let me play. It's trying to verify all of the files now, which will take 10-20 minutes according to the client. We'll see what happens. I guess we'll have to see if I can get back on today.

Yeah, there is something weird going on. It tried to download a 1.5 gig patch for me after I tried to restart the game because the video lag was killing me. I stopped the download and restarted the game and it started right up but then got stuck on the Crytpic load screen after I logged back in. Eventually I was able to make it back on after a few tries.

Probably just there servers buckling under the pressure of the weekend crowd.

Most likely that 1.5GB is Gauntlgrym

Nah, it was just a glitch, since it didn't try to patch again after I stopped it at 2%.

That's exactly what was happening to me, even after I got back on. I eventually just let it patch all the way while I ran errands. Dunno what was up.

Haven't seen anyone on in a few days. The beta is almost over and there is an event going on right now where every 10 minutes portals open all over Protectors Enclave and undead spawn for 5 minutes.

You get unique rewards like the Savage Enchantment which give 2 bonuses per slot instead of one. And the Skeletal Dog companion.

Hurry, event ends 7 am Pacfic time 6/20/13 (when the servers go down for maintenance and the game goes live).

Fuck this event.

I am so sick and tired of dickshitter (thank you FC3: Blood Dragon!)-Devs being incompetent when it comes to "Kill Mob Events".

All it's been is a fucking Control Wizard pissing contest to see who can throw out the most AoE.

I barely 'render' the mob HP bar and they're dead.
-No lag. There's just that much AoE-spam going on

In one event I got one fucking bag and 6 bones as the event reward. All the CWs had ~3 times the amount of "Event Points". -Day 1 of Invasion

...not worth my time; zero fucks given

(I'm angry because this is yet another game that the Devs don't think "you know, players will just do <this>.". I'm not Game Dev, but even I know players will AoE the shit out of mob spawn during events.)

Take off the tinfoil hat. I get drops from creatures I don't even hit. As long as your nearby attacking something you get drops.

Don't hate on Wizards...they are supposed to be your superior ;)

I'll get back on the game soon.  Been in Warframe lately.  I'm not one for mindless mob spawn events either.  No tactics requires no skill.

I got bored after a while. I'll probably go back sometime when I want to play something mindless again. Right now I'm enjoying (albeit frustrated by) Thief...

Ya, don't know if any of you played Day 1 of the Event but mobs had 'minion hp' so they died in one to two hits.

Throbble and I were on last night discussing the possibility of joining a guild to get us through a quest we're stuck on. (Mt. Hotenow's final quest) All of a sudden Throbble got invited to a guild and she got them to invite me to.

The name of the guild oddly enough is 420

Hmm...is that the one with the boss that does the "at feet" AoE and does the random mini-AoE ranged attack?

If so, I found him quite hilarious to solo as a Guardian.

Pull him out of the room to the fashioned stone slab and all the 'at-feet'  AoE's are underground so you don't get hit by them. I think even the random ranged mini-AoEs are also underground.

This game has/had soooo many exploits. Which is nice, I dislike needing to slow down to look for a group...I also dislike that said group will not want to poke around looking for treasure.

Yeah, the fire giant boss. Gammoth or something. I'll try that, thanks for the tip!

Not sure if anyone's monitoring this thread these days.

But, PWE set out promo-codes for Neverwinter [Online], that gives two free levels and some nice loot. Might as well use 'em :P

It's an email sent out. It's titled 'Come Back Now'.

And, yes, it is legit.

I didn't get one. Got lots of emails from Neverwinter but none with that subject. They must really miss you. (Maybe it was only for closed beta testers?)

Dunno, it may also be time dependent. I haven't played in several months. :P
