Post by: 420 on October 12, 2012, 04:02:50 PM: 20 years ago I had to work in a vault with a bunch of strangers because there was tech that could remotely read computer monitors and pick up the vibrations from keyboards and typewriters.

Authenticators are just a placebo, they add no real protection, just another layer of something that can wrong due to human error.

No point, my sleepwalking next door neighbor got evicted and the feeble lock wouldn't keep anyone else out. I half expect the deadbolt to fall out again every time I stick the key in.

About a decade ago I lived in an apartment building with a locked front gate, locked front door, and an on-site building manager. It didn't stop the building's maintenance man from getting maced and beaten by a junkie in the basement. I'm just glad I had the presence of mind not to go down there in my underwear at 4 am to see what all the racket was about.
