Title: Diablo III Info
Post by: 420 on September 01, 2010, 02:27:26 PM
I'll try to keep all my future D3 posts confined to this thread.

Blizzard posted an interesting article detailing the crafting system in Diablo III which includes a video and some high res screenshots showing the inventory system.

Diablo II Crafting System (http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/systems/crafting.xml)

Remember to turn off the site's music before starting the video. Also, check out the details on the weapons, they include DPS and attack speed calculations. Pretty sweet.

Diablo III is going to be so awesome.

The whole artisan thing sounds so bad ass.

Blizzard has had that little hiring message there for years now... and they're located in California, how come you don't work there yet? :P

New article on the health system. (http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/systems/health.xml)

Basically, in D3 potions are rare and expensive and have a cool down so, while they can be used in combat they are not the main source of healing like in Diablo 2. Instead health globes will drop from enemies, grabbing these will autoheal a % of health for the entire party. Champs will drop health globes as they take damage and unique bosses will have some kind of alternate method to get health globes to drop.

Sounds kinda weird.
I heard in an earlier interview that they decided to go this way in order to replace the potion belt slots with skill slots. So, in addition to the skills you bind to the left and right mouse click you will also be able to activate skills using the number keys.

Also, here is the writeup on the character and some info about how PvP will work.

Demon Hunter (http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/characters/demonhunter.xml)

Diablo III PvP (http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/systems/pvp.xml)

Demon Hunter
It seems kind of like a cross between a trap assassin and a crossbow amazon. I love the idea of dual-wielding crossbows though, it's hilariously absurd! And that charge skill seems interesting, I think she was passing through demons, sort of like a limited Teleport or non-targeted Dragon Flight.

PvP
I like the fact that it's a separate mode that allows you to use any of your characters (though who in the fuck plays Diablo single player?). It's too bad that 1v1 won't be ranked however, but the team arena idea is pretty cool. No more running back to town like a little girl. I had a couple really nice PvP build in Diablo 2, before "white" items, bugged rune words and other hacks/exploits ruined PvP.

That would be me.

"Die." "Die." "Time to die."

Whites and blacks were stupid. Using a hex editor to hack an items color to a different color that looked terrible and ugly, I never got the point of it. Though I did see the use of an inventory full of "crafted" small charms that had a variety of special benefits. =P

Anyway, you actually pvp'd in open for any reason other than non-legit pvp!?

Or did those items make it into closed as well, after I stopped playing? (I stopped playing closed just after patch 1.10, I was too in love with 1.09 to be able to accept the changes. =P)

I only ever played closed b.net D2 games and yeah, those items made it onto closed somehow.

Here is a collection of interesting official D3 forum posts on GameBanshee (http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/100255-diablo-iii-forum-activity.html) that goes into more detail about the Demon Hunter class, charms and crafting. They also talk about dye kits, respecing, discouraging offline play, unique items and gems (there will be 17 levels of gem quality and only the lowest 5 levels will drop from creatures.)

Oh and passive skills have been relegated to a new "traits" category.

It was recently announced that Diablo III will require you to have an internet connection in order to play. (Even if you're just playing "single player".)

This has apparently upset a number of fans, which you can read about here: MTV Multiplayer Article (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2011/08/04/blizzard-vp-surprised-over-fan-reaction-to-diablo-3-online-requirements/)

I may have played Diablo single player in the early days but I'm pretty sure I usually played on the "LAN" with throbble (using a 30' serial cable) or online using dial-up. As for Diablo II, by the time throbble and I were "Stress Testing" battle.net with the Diablo II beta we both had the earliest incarnation of Pacbell DSL.

I know throbble's brother played Diablo II single player but that's because he is a park ranger and lives in the middle of a national park. Apparently the satellite internet connection there sucks too much to play online games. Well, that's what he gets for trying to preserve our national treasures.

I know it's a pretty stupid requirement.  Lots of game do that these days.  I remember when my Internet went out last year, I was bored, so I figured I'd fire up Dragon Age and play that.  Behold! Since I had DLC installed I couldn't friggin play cause it needed to authenticate against EA EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Well no Internet now means either playing SNES emulator or reading a book.

All this shit does it hurt people who legitimately pay and play the games, it hardly effects the pirates, whom these lame tactics are created to disrupt.

Usually though, if they say something like that, I tend to expect it in the beginning or middle of the following year. Especially in the case of Blizzard, where it seems they always made sure their game was "done" before releasing it. Not a bad thing at all, of course.

I agree with you. Blizzard has enough money to release when they want to release. They usually like to do it around Christmas time for some reason. So, I would expect D3 to be released around the end of 2012. (Assuming the end of the Mayan calender wasn't predicting the end of the world.)

Yeah, I figured that, but they are really focused on it unlike other game companies. I think it may have something to do with their name/logo. Especially the "Blizzard North" one, which doesn't actually exist anymore but plays when starting up Diablo 2.

(Link (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-08-17-blizzard-serious-about-console-diablo-3))

Quote
Blizzard has given its firmest indication to date that Diablo 3 is coming to consoles.

While lead designer Josh Mosqueira stopped short of confirming the port out right during a Gamescom press conference today, he stated that the developer "is very, very serious about bringing the Diablo 3 experience to the console."

He added that, as reported earlier this year, Blizzard is currently in the process of recruiting a team to handle a potential console version of the action RPG sequel.

Ha, that'd be awesome if I played Wow. But I do not. (Partly cause my laptop could not handle it...since it can't handle AoE Online, and Sims 3{and most likely Sims 2} and also cause it causes too much.)

Soul is really excited for when Diablo III comes out, and when it does...I probably won't be seeing him anywhere else but his computer for a few months at the very least. lol. Maybe in the future I'll play it, after I get a new laptop.

They are also giving people who buy the Diablo III Collector's Edition (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/services/collectors-edition/) an extra 4 months. So, I guess, if you get the "Annual Pass" (which gives you a free copy of Diablo III) and then buy the Collector's Edition on top of that you get a total of 16 months of WoW.

I so don't give a fuck about WoW, but I'm going to get the DIII Collector's Edition for Throbblefoot so her characters can have those Tyrael wings in-game. I'll just get the standard DIII for myself.

How much is the Wow + the full year anyways? And then, How much is the 4 months, and of course...Diablo III? My main question is...is it really worth the price? (I guess if you already have WoW it is, but what if..you don't?)
Title: Re: Diablo III Info
Post by: Mercy on October 25, 2011, 11:27:27 AM
If you don't, it's probably not worth it.

The game + all expansions is around 70 bucks. The monthly payment depends on your plan. (I pay every six months.) Overall, my wow bill is 155.88 a year. For me, the price is worth it because I get into the beta, get a free mount (that could cost 25 dollars if for sale.), and Diablo 3. Because either way I would be paying the 155 because I play WoW anyways.

It's just a gimmick to slow the bleeding.

C'mon, brand new game; a game we, Diablo Fans, have been waiting for for years. And you just GIVE it away?!

I would NOT recommend doing it if you don't see yourself playing *cough*paying*cough* [for] WoW for at least 12months.

It is at the top of my list.

Seriously, I can't wait for the new Assassin's Creed: Revelations, I'm so hyped about that shit, nor can I wait for Saints Row the Third, or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Mass Effect 3, etc. etc. and so many of them are coming next month.... but seriously, if I had to, I would let them all disappear from reality and never play any them ever just so I could play Diablo 3. That's how "top of my list" it is.

...As long as it doesn't suck. LOL

I've been trying to snag a deal preordering the collector's edition, but it isn't happening. I'd buy it at full price if it wasn't out of stock on Newegg. Walmart has it though, so that's most likely where I'll be getting it, since all of the one's on Amazon are over $200 for some reason.

What comes with the collector's edition?
Consider this, Throbble and I have been playing Diablo 2 since the beta we still have all our original characters (3 full accounts for me 2 for Throbble).

So we should be the first people to jump on the Diablo III Collectors Edition (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/services/collectors-edition/) right?

Let's take a look (not including the actual game which is listed first):

DIABLO SKULL AND 4GB USB SOULSTONE (with Diablo II and Diablo II: LoD)
Uh, first, I'm going out to buy an 8GB USB stick for $20 this afternoon and it doesn't come with a big hunk of useless crap (the "base") to take up space on my desk. Also, why would I need another copy of Diablo II?

EXCLUSIVE IN-GAME CONTENT
Here we go! Now we are getting somewhere...

Diablo III - Aesthetic Artifacts
"Call forth glowing angel wings, unfurl an exclusive banner sigil, and dye your armor sets with the Bottled Cloud or Bottled Smoke items."
World of Warcraft - Fetish Shaman Pet
Never had WoW, never will.

StarCraft II - Battle.net Portraits
"Display your status as a hero of the mortal realms with an exclusive army decal and three Diablo-themed Battle.net portraits."
OK, that doesn't make any sense, are they Diablo-themed or StarCraft-themed. One of the portraits looks like an elf from WoW.

BEHIND THE SCENES BLU-RAY/DVD SET
I don't need to see a bunch of greasy, pale geeks explaining how they made the game I'm playing.

THE ART OF DIABLO III & DIABLO III SOUNDTRACK
Because who wouldn't prefer to look at pictures and listen to the soundtrack of a video game instead of playing it.

With the way the new Battle.net is set up Throbble and I don't even need the game DVD. We both already have D3 installed and ready to go the minute the D3 servers come up.

Well the game's graphics are pretty much broken for me.  Already found a thread with people who own older AMD/ATI cards complaining.  I think AMD is aware of the issue and hopefully (probably not) the 12.5 drivers due out soon will address this.  Video cards should really be sold with expiration dates....

Also I still can't get over how you can't control your character with the keyboard...

I rolled back into the control scheme like I never quit using it.

The *only* thing throwing me off at this point is that both Diablo and NWN have a "show items on ground" type of button, and I am so used to NWN that I get confused when it's not highlighting every object I can interact with and only the items on the ground. I'm usually thinking... "Shit! I forgot this goddamn alt key won't show me where the hidden shit is... bah!"

Hehe, I had that problem all the time when switching from D2 to NWN, Is it TAB or ALT? Also I got frustrated by the fact that Diablo did not rotate when I dragged the mouse to the edge of the screen.

Fuck it. Can't even paste basic ASCII characters here so this will have to do:

Major game balance patch coming:

Game Design Update (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/6018173) (May 28, 2012)

Most of it addresses the nerfs made in the recent hotfix, Diablo III Hotfixes - May (Updated 5/23/12) (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/5825330/Diablo_III_Hotfixes_-_May_Updated_52312-5_23_2012#blog), as well as detailing Blizzard's plans for upcoming hotfixes and patches. There is also some minor info on the upcoming PvP system.

What I found most interesting were the comments on balancing Inferno difficulty, lowering crafting costs, and buffing legendary item mods. (In general, legendary items will be buffed but the changes will not be retroactive so don't worry if a legendary item hasn't dropped for you yet as the older ones will soon be outdated.)

EDIT: Patch 1.02 is being applied right now.

Patch 1.0.3 Design Preview (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/6262208/Patch_103_Design_Preview-6_6_2012#blog)

Some interesting changes:

Top tier items (iLevel up to 63) will now have a chance to drop in any act in Inferno difficulty. (Previously they only dropped in acts 3 and 4.)

Also, save up your gems people! The costs for upgrading gems will drop dramatically!

Example:
Gem Quality Flawed
Previous Cost 3 Chipped + 500 gold
New Cost 2 Chipped + 10 gold

Gem Quality Flawless Square
Previous Cost 3 Square + 20,000 gold + 2 Tomes
New Cost 2 square + 100 gold + 2 Tomes

Other things include nerfing creatures in Inferno difficulty Acts 2-4, nerfing IAS (Increased Attack Speed item mod), and making repairs on high level items 4x to 6x more expensive (to discourage item farming by continuous death).

Plans for the 1.1 patch include adjusting a number of class skills.
