Title: March Mayhem: Developer's Showdown
Post by: Mo on April 05, 2010, 06:54:03 PM
This is interesting.  Bioware is in the finals against Valve.  Zynga, best known for developing such wondrous titles such as Farmville and Mafiawars made it to the semis, likely due to the fact that you can vote via Facebook and Twitter.

Wait... how the heck does zynga beat NCSoft, or Infinity Ward, or Rockstar North, or Square Enix?

Let me know when this contest thing makes sense.

I didn't ask why. :P

It was meant as a rhetorical question. :)

Also notice the only name I didn't capitalize. lol

I can't decide which I want to win. Both companies put out stellar games.

Bioware made Baldur's Gate so they own my vote for life.  Not too mention they are Canadian :)

Novalogic is missing.  Did Lionhead do Black & White?  Torn between Blizzard and Valve.  I guess Bioware. No Valve.

I haven't played a single Valve game.  I'm not really into FPS anymore.  They bore me so quick.  Blizzard already lost to Bioware.  I haven't played a Blizzard game since WC3, though that game consumed many house of my time during LAN parties.  Good times.

I've never played WoW but I own every other Blizzard game and they never put out a bad/buggy title.

I can't say the same for BioWare since I never tried Jade Empire, Mass Effect, or Dragon Age.

Valve made a bunch of games I have heard of but never played.

Maxis is listed as making The Sims and Spore but no mention of Sim City, Sim Earth, Sim Ant, Sim Life, Robot Wars, etc.

The Firaxis list doesn't even mention Alpha Centauri, the main game they are known for. Which was, coincidentally, created by Sid Meier the man who made Sim City, Sim Earth, etc.

Where the fuck is ID Software? I bought everything they ever made and was never disappointed.

This whole list is fuckered and they should know better than to post this kind of half-assed crap to the internet.

What is the last game ID Soft put out? I think they try to keep this current because they do it every year.  So if the last game was Doom 3 well that was years ago.

Sim Earth rocked :)

People on the forum seemed to have a mild consensus that KOTOR was Bioware's best game or way up there.  Never played it.  Star Wars doesn't do it for me unless I'm watching the original trilogy.  Though I did read Shadows of the Empire and it was pretty good.  It took place between Empire and Return, so no Han Solo, except they put in a new character who was more or less a Han clone lol.  Side note (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_solo).

I enjoyed KotR. I have played Jade Empire and it was a great game.

It's true that ID has some upcoming titles but hasn't released anything new since DOOM 3. I was hoping Rage would be released last year, and DOOM 4 is on the way.

My favorite part of Sim Earth was during the geological age at the beginning. My cousin and I would each design a continent then we'd use earthquakes to drive them into each other and see who's continent survived mostly in tact.

I barely remember that game. I can pretty much remember little bacteria's in the early stages. I keep trying to remember more, but that's all I got. I liked a lot of the Sim City games, but... it was just so hard for them to keep my interest for very long. I always ended up disappointed because of that.

Spore is awesome. It definitely should have been *better* though, no doubt.

KoTor was pretty cool played it until the friend who I took it from traded me his copy of NWN for it back.

Speaking of LAN parties I spent a lot of time on Duke Nukem and Rise of the Triad both put out by Apogee/3D realms (Max Payne) which isn't listed. RoTT was better than Doom.  Fuck Heretic btw

Played the first Sim City and by the time the newer ones came out I lost interest but got hooked on Sims for a summer.
