Title: 4th Edition
Post by: Mo on July 23, 2008, 04:18:07 PM
I just heard today that 4th Edition was released about a month ago.  Looks like an almost complete rewrite again.

Gone are many classes and races.  Feats take a backseat to "Powers".  Gone are spells as we used to know them as well as multiclassing as we used to know it.  Saving throws are different and even alignments were redone.

"4th Edition", much like the rumor about a NWN2 is just a fallacy it doesn't exist.

4th edition is very different from any of the previous editions. Basically unrecognizable as D&D now.

I've been comparing a 3rd edition adventure with an updated 4th edition version and it's remarkably different. Tons more monsters and fighting and most of the flavor text has been removed to make it a mindless hack and slash.

The Old Kincep Mansion (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/vv/20031017a) (3rd Edition)

The Haunting of Kincep Mansion (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/duad/20080723b) (4th Edition)

Ahah! So I must inform my friend of this new edition then! He likes D&D, but he likes mindless hack and slash much much more.

Whereas my other friend who plays with him, is not as likely to embrace it.

As for me, it's never been good enough unless it was NWN (which obviously isn't pen & paper). For the people in which I would ATTEMPT to play with have always been, and always will be, remedial.

have always been, and always will be, remedial.

To quote Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

To quote Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Remedial? I'm emphasizing their general lack of skill. It's insulting. Using it in this way, I don't specify any need to improve upon any particular thing(s). Instead, I'll simply call anyone that I am insulting remedial, as if to say they need to improve in everything.

However, I realize the context I use it in is not the common usage, but if I didn't explain it you may not understand why I use it this way.

It sure sounds better than using 'retarded' all the time. =D

I would not call your usage uncommon. I would call it incorrect. By calling somthing remedial you state that it is a corrective act, as opposed to being in need of one. Much like i could not call my typing skill remedial since it doesn't actually help with anything. More appropriately it is baneful.

Therefore you might need a remedial typing class to correct your appropriately baneful typing skills. :) I'm thoroughly enjoying this discussion.

To avert an argument...Here we go:

So then what HeLL said makes absolutely no sense:
For the people in which I would ATTEMPT to play with have always been, and always will be, remedial.
Well, it doesn't make much sense anyway: "For the people in which I would ATTEMPT to play with"

Seriously, "in which"? Are you saying when you attempt to play with people it's from inside them?

Seems like my attempt to avoid has been in vain...

Yes HeLL's use of the word is wrong, but so are a billion or so other uses of words in English these days.  No wonder non-English speakers say that English is the hardest language to learn.  Harder than Danish, now that's HARD!

That's because Americans don't speak English - they butcher it.

How else would I? I played NWN inside of Anheg all the time if I remember correctly. =D

EDIT: Too eager to post that I forgot to finish Bill Gates' reply.

Why else would many words have many different meanings?

People like myself invented this language and we continue to expand it to this very day.

Although my usage of the word may be incorrect, I intend to keep using it in this way until it no longer is.

Hello Elessar & Anheg, long time no monk slap. =D

That is a very bad sign then!  Fortunately, that happens with a lot of things...sometimes I leave letters out or rearrange them and and make a completely different word...took me a while to realize it was 'Prefect' not 'Perfect'....

Reminds me of Harry Potter. Is that where you most commonly made that mistake, or was it somewhere else entirely?

1. 4th Edition sucks.

2. VoIP? Do people still do that?

3. Have you ever tried playing a turned based game remotely? Chess, Robot Wars, Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri?

4. There is no such thing as 4th Edition.
