Title: Product review
Post by: Meclar on September 07, 2007, 09:41:31 AM
I've had the same mouse for about 5 years it's a Microsoft wired 3 button optical mouse 1.1 usb/ps2.  Link (http://www.microsoft.com/products/info/product.aspx?view=22&pcid=683c57a7-1f50-442c-ad1d-c262417da635&type=ovr)
When I play TFC the scroll slips and will change weapons on me.
I have to randomly click things twice with the left mouse button.
Dirt and lint collect on the bottom pads.
I like the mouse because it's lightweight and basic.

Impulsively I bought a Logitech wireless 10 button laser mouse 2.4 usb (!) ps2.
What I like is the IM notification because I don't use sound for my IMs and the IM notifications don't make it passed the gaming window.
It's wireless,  I don't have to have my penny jar holding up my mouse cord.
There's a mute button.
A side scroll for wide web pages.
This thing has a serious response time.

What sucks is that I don't give a crap about email notifications.
Most of the functions don't work in my games.
I can't set Alt+Tab as a command or the Windows key.
With 2 AA batteries in it, it's heavy.
Playing games I noticed that if I stopped moving the mouse and then moved it again the cursor took a few seconds to wake up.
I've lost signal to the receiver.
The volume control on the mouse doesn't work with my speakers, it has its own volume so I can't really turn up the sound, only down or mute.

I want a really good wireless mouse for gaming and internet browsing.  Does one exist?
I'm looking at Razer wired mouses.  Link (http://avid.broadcastnewsroom.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=175150)

Wireless mice suck for gaming for all those reasons you listed.

The two best mice that I have found are the most basic 2 button + wheel, wired Logitech and Kensington mice. When it comes to mice, less is more.

Here are a couple promising ones:

Logitech G3 Laser Mouse (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/139&cl=us,en) - Described as "Gaming-Grade"

Kensington's choices are much less expensive
MouseinaBox® Optical Elite (http://us.kensington.com/html/4011.html)

My old computer still has a Logitech though I use a Dell now (came with the system) and Throbble always uses Kensington mice and trackballs.

I agree wireless sucks.

Get a corded laser mouse.  Can't beat that.

I'm using a corded logitech optical. 3 button and scroll, with a soft ratchet on the scroll, so its smooth yet clicks into place. the biggest frills of it are it has two smaller buttons one on each side for forward and backward page turning on the web, which is actually pretty handy. There's no worries about clicking the side buttons in games since they are not programmed to do anything in game.

I have that same exact mouse, except I have none of the problems you do, and I haven't had it for 5 years, I've had it for 6.

I found my dad's Microsoft optical mouse he used for a few years.  It's broken in just right and is basically the same as my old one but this has 5 buttons.
