Title: War in Iraq AND North Korea
Post by: Soul Sojourner on June 07, 2007, 08:45:24 PM
Say what you want to say about either? I've made a topic about the war elsewhere and thoroughly discussed it, so it's hard for me to repeat myself unless I'm telling you how much Bush is a piece of shit.

That, and I think if we should be liberating any goddamn country it should be North Korea. Do you know what they do to those people there? They are forced to worship the leaders like gods, and the government doesn't allow anyone in the country. Well, very few people anyway. They are extremely out-dated on what's going on in the world and the people own damn near no personal freedom or privacy. Is this war against Terrorism really doing anything? Except lowering our population by killing off all of our troops. As for North Korea, yeah... we'll just ignore them until they get their hands on nuclear weapons... and they really, really, don't like us.

Once they eat each other there won't be anyone left to fight.

As far as liberating a country, that is not what the U.S. is doing in Iraq. The U.S. is setting up a base of operations (read: "fortress") right smack in the center of the Middle East to provide a target for terrorists to concentrate on in the hopes that it will stop them from attacking more difficult to reach targets farther away.

Now Putin is offering the U.S. use of a radar facility that Russia just happens to still have control of in a country that just happens to boarder northern Iran called Azerbaijan.

The war in Iraq isn't a humanitarian effort and neither would be a war with North Korea. The only people that would be liberated would be the companies that got the contracts to rebuild the infrastructure once our soldiers were done abusing the locals.

Yes, unfortunately I've accidentally added misspelled words to the lexicon and I can't figure out how to access it to remove them.

To paraphrase a popular quote: It's a war by terrorists for terrorists.

Amen.

Does anyone know if any nations have any dealings/diplomatic engagements/arrangements/treaties/etc with North Korea? I know we don't and I don't think many other countries do either, but I'm not sure which ones do, if any.

China, they are buddies from way back. China gave Kim Jong-il's dad a nice armored train to travel by because he was too paranoid to travel by plane. Now sonny-boy uses it.

That, and I think if we should be

That part is my opinion, obviously. As for the rest, I heard it on the Oprah Winfrey show awhile back, when some woman essentially snuck into North Korea with a group of doctors because of some problem people there were having and needed treatment for.

I'm sure Oprah is full of beans, but North Korea's civil rights violations are fairly well accepted -  check out the Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_North_Korea#Famine_and_the_food_distribution_system) article - I draw your attention to the sections on famine and abductions - fascinating!

That said, people are being abused and killed all over the world (Darfur (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darfur_conflict) springs instantly to mind) - why should the U.S. get involved? We botched the last one, and all we have to show for it is some really cool advancements in artificial limbs and a lot of disappointment from our European pals.

I'd believe Oprah before I'd believe Talon. Plain and simple. Plus it wasn't Oprah doing the talking, it was some other random chick I know nothing about. Also, Talon, the relevance of your point is lacking due to the fact that the only television I usually watch is good movies that spring up, and Dr. Phil. Unless I am randomly watching tv when someone else is, in which case, I end up watching court shows, investigative shit, and sometimes crap like Oprah. Which has got to be the rarest one, as I usually can't sit through it.

But hey, even the wikipedia article shows the tiny bit of information I presented on the subject is not false.

@Throbble: Careful not to misinterpret my meaning. I certaintly don't think we should be getting involved there. As I said though, I think it would be better than being in Iraq. If we're going to fuck around anywhere then that should be the place. But just because I say that, doesn't mean I think we should be off fighting anywhere.

China and N. Korea's bond is wearing thin according to the UN Security Council. The threats of nuclear tests made China put their foot down. China is the backbone of N. Korea. So they do what China says.
