Title: The Occupation Thread
Post by: Soul Sojourner on May 16, 2007, 07:12:36 PM
Ladies and Gentlemen, HMH brings you the Occupation Thread!

I think the purpose of this thread is self-explanatory and completely obvious. However, if you still don't know, then the idea behind it is to share and possibly discuss your occupation (career/job/work, whatever you do to make a living).

You may see this as a pointless thread, but alot of threads I make are pointless, and I act oblivious to that point.

Anyway, I'm a cook, more or less. I work at a fast-food restaurant franchise known as Dairy Queen, and it's not a bad job at all, better than hauling trash or trudging around carrying boxes, or shoveling shit. Most employees learn how to do everything there is to do to keep the place running, apart from a manager's duties. I've started out as purely the cook, meaning I don't do anything with registers, customers, or icecream yet. The cooking can be the more difficult half when there are alot of food orders around lunchtime and the place is booming, while the front is taking orders, those in the kitchen are running around trying to get them out in time, as fast and fresh as possible, as well as getting the order correct. There can be alot of confusion sometimes. Beyond that are the chores, keeping things stocked, mopping, sweeping, cleaning out the grease, dishes, and quite a few others. Overall the job is relatively easy, but it's also not very high pay, which is expected. It's better than my parents jobs! Even if they get paid more... factory work... uck.

Beyond that, I thought I had three bosses, but I now know I have four. =D

My card says "Senior Technical Writer" but the org chart says "Documentation Lead" and actually, if you look at my assigned responsibilities, I'm also in management.

That's why they call me Doc Chick.

Sometimes at work they call me A-Dog...

Mostly Mike...

Probably because he has such a hard time pronouncing such a simple name.

i'm a student who's in his senior year next week exams and this friday presentation of my endword and i'm finished (oh yeah baby!)

In the weekends i'm a waiter at a restaurant, I like it there good co-workers, nice atmosphere the bosses are quite fun and I did bring in a friend since December so now me and him are working together and it's really fun.
It can get hectic as Hell described at his place so that's when the real work starts especially when alot of people come in after eachother and all order drinks you gotta hurry lol, same for food.
Anyways I might still do this work when I finish school and start my main carreer I might do this as a addition just because of the fun, I really like the people who work there and I do enjoy doing it with them.

Pleasant co-workers and bosses are pretty much the most important thing about a job.

Oh, and by the way Meclar: my company stocks those boxes of Fritos in the break room. I think I found your wallet in the box we polished off today.

There was a severe lack of supervision in my department so people were allowed to do and work as they wanted; wasting an incredible amount of time.
And the guy that I worked with was buddy buddy with the "lead" above him and she was buddy buddy with the supervisor above him.
Along with the place being an OSHA violation waiting to happen.  No safety complaints were being followed through and if they were they took months, at peoples leisure.
The forklift trainer would have people lifted on the forks without the proper equipment.
