oooooh.... that is not good. You can play without it though, but BzK's problem must be different, because if a patch stopped it from installing it wouldn't matter because the version is before the latest patches. So a patch wouldn't be able to unless you bought a brand new one. Hmm, weird issue. I think I confused myself.

for clarification: I wasn't seeing the peglegs, so 420 suggested a reinstall, then when I tried to install it says "insert play disk" but it doesn't seem to run even if I go into it and click Autorun

Yes, none of us use the playdisk. That's why it was so shocking that Throbble's play disk no longer worked when the 1.67 patch corrupted her install and she had to reinstall NWN from scratch (like I suggested to BzK). Fortunately when she went to reinstall and her play disk didn't work she was able to use my play disk to complete the install.

I'm sure Bioware or Atari will replace defective/broken disks for you, just got to figure out where to send the old disk.

Also, there was something about a problem with the play disk and certain brands of DVD burner. If your installing from a DVD burner BzK, try upgrading it's firmware to the most current version.

Hell, you don't seem to have the first clue what we're talking about.

I will say that my problem is different than BzK's though, in that the installer runs the play disk, churns for a couple minutes then says "Installation halted. Delete everthing in the c:\Neverwinter Nights\NWN directory."

Well, you said the playdisk wasn't working, as such you could have easily meant you tried putting it in and playing. Since you didn't say anything about it not working for installation, BzK did.

That's why I pointed out the part about the patch, in case someone made the connection that the patch could be the problem, when it couldn't be for BzK's install, because the disk version wouldn't have the latest patch, which is why it would be different from your situation, if you were just trying to use it to play, and someone thought it would be the patch making you unable to do so.

Now if you can undesrtand what I mean by all those words you'll get what I meant, if not oh well.

BzK, I guess if you have more than one rom drive, you could try installing using the other one/s.

Elessar, there aren't any bubbles jeeze. =P

I have countless cd's/dvd's that only serve a purpose as frisbie. But I do rip any dvd/cd I own to harddisks. As I never had those failing me.

And nwn, I just untar an archive. Takes less than a minute to install nwn, less than a second to delete. And the archive is just 2gb, containing everything. Perhaps you can do this on windows too, with a bit digging into the registry (have fun).

Well, assuming that there are any decent computer games after NWN2, I doubt game developers are in any hurry to release a product that only runs on one version of a single operating system. If anything we'll get a few years of DirectX10 compatable games (like the old MMX days) that can still run on most platforms but will give special features to Vista users.

Do you even know what OS a modern mac uses?
It uses a Mach-BSD kernel - thats right - a REAL UNIX. You are probably still living in pre-OSX days...

As for your "Linux Rules" statement, ill stand by my previous argument. Linux DOESNT rule. In fact, it doesnt really do that much that you'd be aware of from a user-perspective. Its just a kernel.

Maybe what you meant to say was that GNU/Linux rules. Again, I would disagree, and say that the GNU part is what does the ruling, and that the linux part just tags along for the ride.

If you are interested in real UNIX, as opposed to a UNIX-clone, then go for any of the BSDs, which are a (more than GPL) open alternative to commercial UNIX.

Im not going to get into any fanboy argument, which is why I will not propose any suggestions as to what you should use. All I will say is that your assumptions of linux are misguided.

That is my "2 bucks" as a POSIX engineer with 7 years commericial experience (including linux KERNEL development)

*end rant*
Title: MAKE THE BUBBLES STOP!!!
Post by: Tea-cup on May 13, 2006, 08:58:02 PM
I know mac's, I know darwin, even ran it on my pc before apple had its intel based computers in the stores. I know that linux only is the kernel. (I actually find it offending if people think I'm -THAT- stupid, I knew that when I was 14 years old) Actually, if we're going to nitpick anyway, I often refer to POSIX Osses, I never mean windows with it, while windows NT in fact complies with POSIX.1, should I be more specific here too? ... I run OpenBSD with turned out the one I liked the most of the BSD's. And I've been comparing the GPL and BSD licenses, I know them well enough. Something that shows how irrelevant experience can be, I would not make mistakes some profesionals do regarding these licenses. (like making GPL'ed code closed source) No, I don't think I'm misguided in any way, I've kept myself well informed about the present and the past.

That reply is a bit sad ... They are yelling around that linux is just the kernel in the basic documentation of many linux distro's and you knew I ran my own compiled linux (easy as pie, but may suggest that I know what linux is) and was messing around with FreeBSD, 2 years ago.

Sigh, I so hate this. Whenever you make a little stupid post on some game forums, there's always someone that can't read it. And somethimes I'm shocked to see who. Perhaps it's my fault, but it's so freaky irritating.

Cheese and Ground Beef
(Seriously Taarna, try a cheese burger!)

M&Ms and Skittles
(Mama always said life was like a bowl of M&Ms and Skittles...)

Coffee and Sparkling Water

Pizza and Curry Sauce
(Pizza vindaloo rules you!)

Peanut Butter and Celery
(Raisins on that is just nasty.)

Koolaid, Fortified Wine and Malt Liquor
(Still haven't tried this one.)

Beans and Rice
(The perfect protein!)

Chicken and Corn
(Ask Les Claypool about this one.)

Well, seeing as Mr. Pibb/Pibb Xtra has a artificial caramel flavor, just like Dr. Pepper, I wouldn't see why not. Sounds like a totally awesome combo to me, but that may be biased since Twix is one of my favorite candy bars, and Mr. Pibb/Pibb Xtra/Dr. Pepper are one of my favorite soft drinks. Of course, I like Dr. Pepper slightly more than Pibb Xtra, and I rate Pepsi evenly with Dr. Pepper.

Ever try "Orbitz"? It's sort of like tiny colored balls of gelatin suspended in a clear syrupy liquid. We saw some at a random grocery store on the way to a cabin in Yosemite. Bought like 3 bottles but only got half-way through the first one before we decided to experiment on them.

Turns out, when you microwave it half the gelatin spheres sink to the bottom while the other half float to the top! Fascinating but definitely not made for drinking.

I would be more likely to remember something if I hated it more than if I liked it.

1) It had alchohol in it and you trank too much (explaining the tinglyness)

2)It had Sprite/7up/Sierra Mist in it (shaken up caronated pops can be fizzy)

3) It was poison and you will die in 5 Hours:19 Minutes: 17 Seconds

Two Words: Catholic School. No, I doubt it had alcahol in it, and I had two cups. It didn't taste like Sprite/7up/Sierra Mist. They actually taste good. Hmmm...I almost doubt it was poison too. :) ;)

You may be excited about it now but let me tell you something. One day you will look fondly back on your high school days as one of the most worthless fuckarounds that you were ever forced to endure by our society. Only then will your truly come to appreciate the idiot factory (sometimes called the Combine or the State) and how it tried it's best to destroy your creativity, individuality and logic. High school will come to represent the lowest point in your social/intellectual life, a blight on your memory and your soul that serves to remind you of just how wrong adults with authority can be.

Good times...

On a different note,

DONT SEE X-MEN 3! IT IS HORRIBLE. It will honostly ruin the other two with this lack of....everything except pointless action. You are supposed to like the movie based on the fact that shit blows up a lot.

Not our school. Our teachers kick ass. They support creativity, indiciduality, and logic. But maybe because it's a smaller school and at least half of the teachers actually care.

Woah.. not many americans realise that. Its good to see that some do. After being in 2 american schools for a yr i completely agree that they try there best to destroy your creativity, INDIVDUALITY and logic. Not to mention the standard of education in some of the state run schools is embarrassing.

English schools are just as bad, I got a 2 hour detention for doing something that no-one else did that improved the work and showed good skills [Includeing a flash based on the project we were doing in IT]

So - whats the full story :)

Well, I made a small flash based on the project we were doing at the time [About some club for children aged 11-16]to include in the E-portfolio we were making and my teacher gave me a detention for using a program that only the 6th formers [16-17 old people] were supposed to use,he didn't like me 'wasting my time on something that won't get you marks'

Ser spends some time in Ohio, of all the backwards holes in the US- no offense, Anheg - and decides he knows the entire US. Y'all Brits should be happy more Americans don't base their whole opinions of the UK on Birmingham or Barnsley.

The question is were you banned from using the program? Because if you were then the detention was justified.

Proper discipline in schools is the best thing that can happen to u in school.
Also a school that teaches u self discipline!

DC isn't actually represented at the Federal level. Without representation, they don't get the funding that other parts of the US do.

You can't generalize about a population of 300 million from such a small sample, anyway.

Some of the best schooling I've heard of resides in NJ, and, for the most part, that's a shithole.

It is definately different everywhere, no way does DC have a better schooling system.

My comments weren't directed at US schools and had nothing to do with the quality of schools. I oppose the very idea of schools and standardized testing in general. I went to an expensive private school and I entered college with the ability to write papers well above any of the people from public school. I was also constantly in trouble and almost expelled on multiple occasions.

What I meant to say was that the concept of school in general offends me. Before college, school is a day-prison where children/teenagers are kept off the streets because their parents are all forced to spend their day in a different day-prison.

At least college gives the impression of freedom by allowing you to choose which classes to take at what times (within certain limits).

I understand that many people like school but for me growing up it was just another way society thought up to torture those of us who would rather have spent our youth outside playing, instead of being forced to endure the smooth, cold walls of the conformity factory.
