NwN General / 9ac vs 12-20ac
« on: July 14, 2004, 04:09:14 PM »
I'm not planning on bringing a mage at all, I think the idea of a 12-20 ac mage vs. mage is rediculous, and doesn't show the differences in restrictions at all.

Now, Atomic Chicken, i've heard a lot about.  Resist server? what properties are disallowed?  Item level restriction?  banned feats/spells?

I am not walking in there and then suddenly discovering something taht damages my build or a property I am without that everyone else uses.  I need to know this stuff up front.

And most importantly *WHERE* is it?  There are a lot of servers out there, and it would be helpful to at least know what category it's in.

GodSpire General / Europeans Sents

I have begged to b sent for soooo long and nothing has happend :P.. Im from europe and i'd love to b sent
How long have you been playing on Godspire?  I only ask because the idea of "for so long.." is very subjective.

I've played on Godspire for about 2 years now, and I honestly don't think I've met you in game yet.  I know people who have been playing for almost as long as I have that have professed interest in being a sentinel that still aren't.

I'm glad to see that so many people are interested in helping enforce the rules of Godspire, it shows that the community that's being fostered there is one that the majority of the player population agrees with.  Unfortunately, in the eyes of people that have been here for a long time, someone who's been playing a month or two and asks to be a sent has not been "asking for a long time."

There are rare exceptions, but generally you will need to be very well known by the people who make these decisions.  Posting here is a good way to accomplish that, but don't be surprised if your request to become a sentinel is ignored.  This is a very subjective matter, you may have been playing on Godspire since you bought NWN, but that doesn't necessarily mean its been long enough to catch the eye of someone able to grant sentinel powers.

Now this is *not* directed at you specifically Boo, only the first two paragraphs really, because I've noticed you have become extremely active in the community, and was just a bit curious since I don't believe I've met you yet.

As for the rest of what I've said, that is more in response to the dozens of posts by people asking to be a sent.  People I don't know.  I am obviously not the authority on this matter, but I can say that I play a lot, and I've played for awhile.  It always throws me off when I run into someone I haven't met that seems convinced they're the next sentinel.

NwN Building / Spell Scripting
« on: July 14, 2004, 02:34:21 PM »
I'm just thinking of something I can add to my character creation mod that would save me the trouble of having to scribe individual spells for wizard builds.

If I didn't have to do that I might actually make wizards more often.

I have a lot of interesting little scripts running like that.. sort of a belog on crack that runs around in my mod (Picture a demon with the faerie queen voice...).  I thought this would be an interesting addition, but didn't have the slightest idea where to begin.

NwN Building / Spell Scripting

Can anyone think of a way to automatically give a wizard all spells available to them using a script?  As opposed to manually scribing individual spells that is.

Something that will check thier available spell level and assign all spells as known up to and including that level.

Yes, DJ Tiesto is a very talented DJ.. I'm still in love with Baby Anne though.. not necessarily because of her skill, but because I met her at a party once and... damn she's hot.  She's a bit too obsessed with Icey however =/

Oakenfold's earlier stuff I liked, though I don't really care for his more recent music.

Jungle Brothers had some good stuff back in the day.  Crystal Method was great before they became so mainstream.  DJ FBI has some great stuff that really hits a nerve whenever I hear it.

Faithless has a few good tracks, like "God is a DJ" which again, was good until it hit mainstream media.

You bring up a genre and I probably listened to it.

Except rap, yes.. it does take skill, and some of the rappers are very lyrically talented (some), but I don't like the general message of the "Gangsta Rap" nor do I like the cultural stigma it places on the African American community.... but that's a whole different topic.

Oh and I can't stand modern country music either.. too damn cookie cutter... old southern rock and bluegrass was good though.

**EDIT**
Damn 420.. you even got that in alphabetical order... methodical mind, or reading your playlist? =)

NwN General / Epic Spell Bug
« on: July 14, 2004, 12:29:24 AM »
Speaking of epic spell bugs, I believe epic spells passing through mantle is also a bug.  It seems to be another symptom of the Cleric Domain/Shadow spell bug (ie a spell made available through another medium like another spell or feat).

Also I heard it mentioned that hellball should not knock someone down if they take less than 50 damage from the spell, that also does not seem to function properly if it is in fact the intended function.

NwN General / Help With Cleric/fighter
« on: July 14, 2004, 12:24:59 AM »
If you're going that route, my recommendation would be 15 cleric 4 fighter 1 paladin.  Don't underestimate the power of Holy Avenger.  Also, if you take paladin as your last level you can max out taunt and have a nice taunter build.

Domains you take depend on your strategy, and whether you go str fighter or dexer.  I would recommend choosing from the following:

War Domain: The domain power itself is a fairly nice buff, although a bit short-lived if you have low charisma, spells accessed through domain are of questionable benefit.

Strength Domain: This will allow you to take Divine Power spell at a lower level (3 instead of 4).  Can be helpful if you need a different balance of spells (ie need more slots in level 4).  As the war domain, the actual domain powers are of questionable benefit, but may be useful.

Trickery Domain: Can be very useful, this domain gives you access to a very nice spell, Improved Invisibility.  If you go the Strength fighter route this can add to your ability to avoid hits and supplement your low ac, if you go dexer it can make you close to untouchable.

Magic Domain: Gives access to Icestorm, a very useful spell, although if you're going for a melee build this may not be the best choice.  Can still be useful to fall back on.

Protection Domain: If you go dexer I would highly recommend taking this domain.  It allows access to two spells you will find highly useful:  Minor Globe of Invulnerability (prevents level 3 or lower spells from affecting you, ie balagarns horn), and Energy Buffer (nice elemental damage resist buff).

Whatever you choose to use will be dependant on what build you wish to create, and what tactics you want to use.  Those are the domains I would recommend though.

I have it on very good authority that the media coverage of the current was is rediculously ignorant.  Few friends of mine just came back from Iraq, and they were incredibly pissed at the way the media is portraying the current situation in Iraq.

Don't believe what you hear and see.  Look and listen, but then ask yourself "why are they phrasing things the way they are.. what do they have to gain."  All world media is corrupt and partisan, you have to be able to see through the bullshit.

George Bush has issues, but in this election I don't think either candidate is gonna be great.

I think I'm gonna move to the moon for a few years.. come back in 2012.

Ok, Firefox is now my new default browser because of ONE feature I just find friggin awesome.

You can set multiple tabs as your homepage.  I now have my browser load up LucidMagic, Google.com, Harmony Central (a guitar tab site), and a few other message boards I frequent on startup.  Now that is just friggin awesome.

Similar Thread in Random Ranting

If you read that you can tell my taste in music is more geared towards those who have contributed a lot to the progression of Rock and Roll.

Nirvana will probably always be my favorite band, although if I could choose any guitarist to steal his ability, it would be Eric Clapton.

I listen to a lot of Clapton, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, The Doors, Pink Floyd (occasionally), Van Halen when i'm in the mood, Aerosmith...

As for more modern groups.. I think most of them are trash.. I do like System of a Down, Drowning Pool and a few of the "Heavier" groups.  Eve6 and Blink 182 I sometimes get in the mood for.

And of course there are occasions where I listen to Carmina Burana by Orff and just relax to the music.  For those who don't know, Carmina Burana is a very old classical work written in latin, it's also probably the single most popular piece from its genre.  You will hear an excerpt from it as the "Theme Song" for both Bram Stoker's Dracula, and Excaliibur: the song O' Fortuna.

I guess I have a pretty wide-ranging taste in music.. I always say that music is the voice of the soul.. there is so much emotion and meaning behind a true musical work of art, that my taste is very mutable.. depending a lot on my present mood and state of mind.

Random Ranting / Favorite Musicians
« on: July 13, 2004, 11:29:47 PM »
God.. I mean a lot of the people you guys list have talent.. but lets look at some *really* innovative musicians:

Jimi Hendrix
One of the most innovative musicians to ever live, his music became the definitive sound for an era where music was at its greatest.

Eric Clapton
Just watching this guy play the guitar puts me in a mood where I can't put down my guitar for a week afterwards, he's old as hell, but his music is timeless.

Johnnie Johnson
Co-Collaborator with Chuck Berry, and credited with the "driving undercurrent" in many of Chuck Berry's songs, such as Johnnie B. Good.. incidentally also the person of whom the song is speaking.

Chuck Berry
Introduced many innovative techniques into the music scene, considered by many to be the Father of Rock and Roll.

Les Paul
Not only one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived, but also pioneered much of modern guitar design.  He is credited with the creation of the solid body electric which replaced the arch-top electric used through the 40s and early 50s.  The 1960 Gibson Les Paul is still the single best guitar I have ever had the privledge of playing.

Bob Dylan
Started the "Folk Rock" revolution in 1965, giving birth to the style of music that predominated much of late 60s early 70s rock and roll.

Kurt Cobain
Although there are many musicians that deserve credit between Dylan in 65 and Cobain, I realized this list was getting rather long, and couldn't neglect to add the lead of my favorite band (Nirvana).  Nirvana's release of the "Nevermind" album, more specifically the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" exposed the Grunge Rock movement to the entire nation, where before it was concentrated in the Seattle musical "underground."  While the popularity of Grunge Rock has faded, its influence is still very evident in much of modern rock.

A lot of current bands and musicians are amazing in thier own right, but the people that I've listed above have made contributions that have changed the face of music forever.  They are the true great musicians that will be remembered as the innovators of thier time.

(Also note, every person listed here has long been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.. this isn't just my opinion  :D )

So I just got Firefox and I ike it. I only have two probelms with it (which i'm sure can be fixed) is that it downloads things to my desktop

I found where this can be fixed while I was browsing through the program.

Tools => Options => Downloads

Select either "Ask me where to save every file" or select a specific download location for all downloads.

I've considered that as well.. I'm an MSCE guy though, so I always think Microsoft first...

And the more I think about it the more I seem to remember something about Netscape requiring a different tag to remove cellpadding and spacing in tables.. which could account for the issue I'm seeing.

Anyone know the proper tag attributes to set a no-border non-padded non-spaced table up in Netscape?

Assuming it isn't
<TABLE Border="0" Cellpadding="0" CellSpacing="0">

**Edit** Nevermind.. seems this has been standardized now.  The Issue I was seeing in the page I had designed was related to default font size.  Which is different than IE.  Seems I am going to need to start specifying that.

The issues I saw with DHTML and such were when loading up www.htmlguru.com  A very intense site that I always use to test DHTML/XML compatibility.

Mostly, I'm keeping Firefox on my computer.. may or may not use as a default browser, will have to mess with it more to find out.  But as far as testing compatibility of my sites its a keeper.

NwN General / 9ac vs 12-20ac
« on: July 13, 2004, 05:27:08 PM »
Although I fully support the mathematical arguments, and truly believe Godspire is the most fully balanced PvP server in NWN, I am ready to "put my money where my mouth is."  Give me your 12-20 ac server name and location, the restrictions, if any, for that server, and wait for me to come and wipe the server clean.

There is in fact ONE build that would offer the highest advantage in that situation, and I'm ready to bring it to prove this point.

Resist/no resist.. doesn't matter.. I see resistance as a matter of preference.. I prefer no resist because the duels don't last as long.. but I *do* see skill in setting up your weapons damage to overcome a resist, instead of just tossing damage on as you feel.

AC however is not a matter of preference, it IS a matter of skill.

You give me your server, I'll come in and see how I do.. If I win the duel, you bring a character to Godspire and we'll see how you do.

This is an open challenge to any 12-20ac advocate.

**EDIT**

Don't start any flamewars here please.. I want this to be an open forum for server information so we can actually have a bit more tangible evidence of skill levels.

Ok.. right off the bat I have some issues... Firefox seems to interpret Pixel dimensions and table settings differently than other browsers.  Also.. there seems to be an issue with absolute positioning, which seems to be tied in with the pixel dimensions as well.

ActiveX doesn't seem to work at all, auto-popup blocking is nice.. but many sites use that as a functional part of the site.. although I'm sure that can be worked around.

Rowspan/colspan seem to work a bit differently.. something's just not quite the same.. can't quite put my finger on it atm though.

DHTML doesn't seem fully supported, motion is choppy.. as if graphics that are set to preload don't..

VBScript functionality is limited.

On the other hand, Built in Java Console and debugging scripts are nice, I'll definitely be using this to check my java coding.

Flash seems to have little or no issues, and I like the fact it playes in a separate window if linked directly to a .swf file.

XML Seems fully supported.

Meta tags are readily viewable under the view => Page information section, which I haven't been able to find an equivalent in Internet Explorer.  I really like that as I tend to use meta tags to "sign" sites I create, as well as include keyword information and site descriptions.

Overall, for static or basic html pages, Firefox seems up to par.  It includes a lot more functionality than I expected, and has some nice extras I rather like.  For more dynamic, interactive pages, it seems limited in its ability to handle complex scripting at a reasonable speed.

I give it (out of five)

If this is the legit Mozilla Browser then my reservations aren't as severe.  Bit curious though, before I bother to even look at this does it support the following:

JavaScript
VBScript
Flash
ActiveX
OLE
ADODB Connections
DHTML
VRML

I ask not only because I need those compatibilities.. but also because I may be redoing the front-end for Lucidmagic for Nathan (if he likes what I've come up with) and I need to know what kind of compatibility you guys using this have.

It will ONLY knock you down if you take more than 50hp of damage - so you can either take a few energy resist feats to counter it - or simply cast some kind of energy resist - and hey presto - no more knockdown.

That functionality doesn't quite work.  Against people that I know to start duels with hellball, my first buff is always energy buffer.  Even when having energy buffer up, which causes me to take no damage from hellball, I still get knocked down.  If this is an intended feature of the spell, it's not working.

I'm assuming this is another Mozilla-esque Internet Browser... probably seems cool, but when there's a program that 1. works and 2. is free... then I just have to ask myself "what is the programmer getting out of this?"

*Usually* someones not going to undertake something like designing a web browser without some sort of payoff.  If you're not told upfront what that payment you're making is.. then it's probably a price you don't want to pay.

I'll leave the spyware infested trojan carrying software to other people.

This one may be clean.. but i've seen too many cases where people "swear this thing is totally legit" turn out to be timebombs waiting to go off... CuteFTP is a perfect example.

I was actually testing some things the other day.. and a level 20 monk can hold his own vs most level 40 characters.. except those with unusually high ab and casters.

Thier ac can get to 70ish and with IE can hit 80 or so.. and they rely on 20s to hit anyway so opponent's ac is virutally meaningless.

And level 20 casters can cast all the same spells a level 40 can... bigby's interposing hand, PWK/PWS, balagarn's horn, etc.. do the same "damage" from a level 20 as they do from a level 40.
