Thanks for replying guys!!

Yeah bb is a bit strong now at L20 given that impr ev is broken (glad to know that 420 noticed it).

Whats the highest DC u can get on bb?

--- other commentary by me  ----

Gust of wind provides some balance, if u have the xp and ur char has the spell. Spell mantle also works.

I am quite surprised more clerics on gs dont spam bb. In my duelling, Ive only been spammed with bb about um 3-4 duels out of say 20-30 with clerics. By spamming I mean more than 6 blade barriers. In the 3-4 i was spammed about 12 bbs or more and i was running all over the arena saying "excuse me!!" "sorry!!" "bb mad cleric!!".. etc etc. But of course all the other clerics cast at least 3 bbs.

Just recently (before gs seemed to vanish) i encoutnered heaps more clerics. They havent "spammed" bb yet but i guess they will soon.

i would like it if gs did encourage everyone to do well in skool..
i know its a bit of a silly ask but..

well, it takes brains to becoem good in gs duels.. and um..
its the same brains thats needed for schoolwork

so, yeah, lets all do well in skool and after too..

Im not sur eit matters so much for GS because GS doesnt allow feat properties on items anyway.
However, if u use Imp Ev on an item and run thru a clerics blade abarrier u will be hurt even if u make the save.
This means Imp Ev isnt working I guess.

Monks escape with no damage though I think.

Anyone have any thought son this?

NwN General / CM and bans.
« on: November 02, 2004, 05:34:44 AM »
um the boot /ban by CM probably has nothing to do with GS actually..

long before i came to gs. i was booted and banned from CM regularly. 2 example occasions :-

1) Turned up with a character named "President Bush" - Booted and banned within 3 minutes . Had not spoken to anybody or interacted with anything. Had merely walked around for about 2 minutes...

2) Turned up with an immune build. had items stripped. Was walking around looking at the rules. left of my own accord (had not psoken to or intereacted with anything). They ip banned me after i left. When i tried to get back in I found out i was banned.

(The only time i wasnt banned was when i turned up with a Level 1 wiazrd in default items and walked around acting noobish)

The dms at CM are power freaks. I guess they r a bit like GS dms, they have their own territory and preferences. CM's DMs are a bit worse because i think a lot of them are 12-14 yos. You see, at the same time that CM was popular, a lot of their players also played at Babba Lou. And those Babba Lou players were the most egotistical, evil, bunch centered on using exploits and faction dmwars. These same players insisted on gettign dm items, pking players and claiming it was a "legit" weapon.

ADSL Routers can be very troublesome for Nwn to host through them. Here's some thing I found out :-

1) Possibly, the SUREFIRE way to get any router to work with hosting nwn is to switch it to bridge mode. This works for my Alcatael Speedtouch pro. Bridge mode just makes the router transparent to the internet. However, anyone can access your pc because NAT is turned off. Another way to get a "bridged" mode, is to use a router which can define a DMZ.

(below applies to NAT enabled routers)

2) Bioware forums is chock full of router problems without a clear solution for all of them.
3) Some routers will just never work to host nwn on gamespy. It may work with Lord Elessar's technique but these servers will generally be able to be seen on gamespy but cannot joined easily. The older your modem is, the less likely it is to be able to handle the server's requests. (My modem is really clunky)
4) It seems a lot of NAT routers do work with nwn servers. You must make sure to open at least port 5121 as UDP and not TCP.
5) If opening port 5121 doesnt work, then u need to open all the other ports which nwnserver was unable to open on the router. There's a big list on bioware forums for this. The list specifies a range of 5121-5200 (i think) for the client ports, but if you just specify 5121 alone, it seems to work for most servers in this category.

(Tips on what to do if you do use bridging mode iare below)

6) You will need a firewall. Zonealarm doesnt work for me because somehow it lets people se the server on gamespy but not join it (maybe Lord Elessar's solution will work here?)
7) Other firewalls such as Sygate may work, I havent tested them. If any firewalls work for u guys, let me know!
8) The most secure firewall is possibly a separate linux box router.

Hope that helps. Additional comments really welcome!! (cos im trying to get my server up too)

GodSpire General / Official Randomer Thread
« on: October 11, 2004, 07:17:29 AM »
It is highly likely that Exalted Sorceress, ROgue Archer and Reliable Archer are all the same person.

I once was speaking online in earshot of Reliable Archer when I said that if Exalted Sorcress was here she would begin fireworks again. Reliable Archer instantly came up to our group and asked, usin ghte precise same words as Ex Sorc did previously: "Are you a DM?".

A few seconds after that, reliable archer logs out and ExSorc logs in using the same login "Chivalricknighthood".

This player is bent on identifying all the DMs so he can scoot when a sent or DM shows up.

Just today, ROgue Archer  was randoming mercilessly. The similarity of their behaviours lends a strong impression that the three are the same players. I would also note 420s warning that Ex Sorc is a downloadable build, but that the link of the login mentioned above suggests this player has very clear behavioural patterns.

I would recommend that a permanent ban be applie dhere, as he selects  periods specifically when sents are absent.

EDIT: Lord Elessar (below )_broought it to my attention that Talon prefers to avoid perm bans to give the players a chance to learn. Thats a good approach. I wasnt aware u guys practised it! Well, thats ok then, at least a firmer ban. Exlted does seem to come back every 2-3 days? I guess thtas ok at this stage of the training process.

ok i have a radoen 9200se and w2k
i have mine in extended/horizontal span mode
so that i can have Mozilla on the rhs crt and nwn in windowed mode on the lhs atm.

its nice, cos i can browse the web wihile playing nwn and i imagine it is great for server admin cos nwserve.exe can be on a separate screen.

BUT.. i think i shant use dual monitor for nwn :/ because i cannot use the mouse to make the screen rotate.. This is badd for pvp.

Maybe, if i had a true dual head card with true separat eindependent monitors then yes i wioll keep it. But atm, its justa horizontal span.

Do you guys have any good setups?
Which video card has true dual monitor (ie: 2 totalle separate indep crts) support?

thanks

I think 420's point is correct because it shows he knows the lore behind shadow magic.

But well, I'm a bit of a chaotic person. I don't tend to believe that we all have to follow what the DnD forgotten realms, or dragonlance mythologies and genre says. After all, DnD is ultimately about creating our own worlds. So ithe more differences we have between worlds the better.

It is like GS, although the names are drawn from myth, GS to me is a totally new world. With a bit of Talon inside and so on. It doesnt have to be lotr for me to be good.

I actually don't feel that the shadow/domain spells are "bugged".
Instead, to me they add tremendous flavour to the game beyond DnD rules.

After all, what is more interesting than to realise thta in the worl dof magic, there are devious spells which break the conventional rules of mana manipulation?

Shadow spells are weaved from the stuff of shadows, whos eproperties remain unexplored. They pierce mantle, perform strange DCs and have hidden surprise effects! This is the stuff of magic! Maybe bioware even pre-empted in their spell descriptions where the word "Special" is use din reference to the type of saves used.

Domain spells are drawn from the elements of gods, themselves made from the weft of mana. Is it not to be expected that the very spells they grant their disciplines tear open the same stuff of their creators? That is the stuff of celestial beings!

And in duelling, such spells merely make the fate of the casters more undecided, haning in the balance of fate instead of returning us to the orderly mundane existence outside nwn.

Well, anyway a lot of this is supposedly already fixed in 164. But I still prefer them to be unchanged.
