NwN Building / CODI Finally Releases Content
« on: June 23, 2006, 12:13:21 PM »
Well, Papermonk confirmed that the City of Doors Initiative is dead. Damn lazy Planescape enthusiasts.

Anyway, he released everything they finished in a single package on NWVault. Link

Quote
This package includes over 40 monsters â?? from NPCs to Cranium Rats to Maelephants to Manes. It also includes many new portraits as well as the Tiefling PC model and some accompanying heads. Included in the package are some 120 placeables â?? many have been released, but I think some are new.

Later on we will release the rest of what we have in a "sandbox" package â?? meaning, it won't be "ready to use" but will be composed of hundreds of placeables (many complete), creatures and tiles in progress. Community members are welcome to sift through and finish and use these files as they see fit. We'll be releasing that as soon as we get it under control â?? as you can imagine, it is a great deal of content.

NWN 2 General / Deity Selection on Character Creation
« on: June 17, 2006, 04:16:57 PM »
NWN2 Lead Designer J.E. Sawyer posted this on the Bioware forums today: deity selection, IT'S IN THE GAME!

Here is some interesting quotes:

About altering the deities.2da (the "removed" colum)

If you do not like my list of 105 Forgotten Realms deities (including None and Ao), mark all of these to 1 and create new entries for Takhisis and Paladine and Farmer Bob.

Which Forgotten Realms Deities Are Not Included
Quote
Exclude the Mulhorandi deities, the Chult deities, and Uthgar EDIT: and Takhisis. Pretty much everyone else should be there. All demihuman deities from the FRCS are there except Deep Sashelas.

And no, you can't be a cleric of Ao.

ThrobbleServ / Location of Smith Hold
« on: June 08, 2006, 03:22:51 PM »
Finally, the location of the best known dwarven trading city in the Forgottem Realms has been revealed!

The first map is an up-close look at Smith Hold's exact location while the second shows it's general position in the world of Toril.

[attach=1]

[attach=2]

Fumesmith Road runs North/South and passes the main entrance to the city of Smith Hold on the western face of Granite Spire Mountain. The lone mountain rises out of the Ironbark Forest, a large grove of petrified trees on the northern boarder of The Far Forest. The River Delimbiyr (after which Smith Hold City Center's main street is named) flows just west of the forest.

Fumesmith Road does not exist beyond the forest's boarders and serves mainly as a cleared and maintained path to and from Smith Hold. Beyond Smith Hold, the road continues north to the edge of the forest but its southern end turns west towards the river.

NwN Building / 1001 Things Found in a Barrel
« on: May 26, 2006, 02:19:41 PM »
WotC has a thread called "1001 Things Found In A Barrel" located here: Link

They are asking for people to post their ideas of what kinds of things you could find in a barrel in a D&D adventure.

Once they get enough entries one of the WotC people will create a downloadable random barrel contents generator. I figure once that is done it will be a simple matter to convert it into NWNScript then I'll post it for anyone to download for import into their own mod.

NwN General / The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr
« on: May 26, 2006, 12:45:37 PM »
Looks like I was wrong about Infinite Dungeons being the "secret project" that DLA has been working on. The mod The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr will be available in mid-July and the download looks to be about 1 Gig. However, the good news is that though it started as a Premium Module, it will be free!

Quote
Now that they are no longer under NDA, Steel_Wind, project lead for DLA, spoke about their module "The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr" which will offer over 20 hours of gameplay and will have fully rideable horses, a Tir Na Og tileset (TNO) that is the largest tileset ever built for NWN, official or otherwise.

Quote
The good news is that they are planning on releasing it in Mid-July. The better news is that it will be free. Yes, totally free despite first starting out as a premium module.

NWN 2 General / NWN2 Familiars/Animal Companions
« on: May 16, 2006, 01:01:53 PM »
Quote
J.E. Sawyer
Lead Designer

Familiars are summoned creatures. You can summon or unsummon them freely unless the familiar has been killed. They do not try to engage in combat, and usually just follow behind the master. While out, they grant a bonus that is roughly the equivalent of a feat. As the master advances, so do the familiars. They gain more hit points, better saving throws, and so on. They also gain evasion and spell resistance. During character creation, they can be named and tinted. Some creatures have multiple tint maps.

Familiars cannot be directly controlled. They are intended to essentially be small buff totems and cool looking pets.

If a familiar is killed, the master suffers -2 to Con for 8 hours and cannot summon the familiar again until he or she has rested. Masters are encouraged to unsummon familiars when the going gets tough. Our current list of familiars follows:

Bat: Master gains +3 to Listen checks.
Cat: Master gains +2 to Move Silently and Hide checks.
Rat: Master gains +2 to Fortitude saves.
Rabbit: Master gains +1 bonus to all saves.
Weasel: Master gains +2 to Reflex saves.
Spider: Master gains +3 to Bluff checks.
Pig: Master gains +3 to Diplomacy checks.
Beetle: Master gains +1 hit point per level.

Animal companions also cannot be controlled, but they are essentially aggressive tanks. They also become more powerful as the master advances. Currently, the only penalty the master suffers from the animal companion's death is that they cannot summon the companion again until they have rested. This may need to be adjusted. We are currently supporting the following animal companions with the listed special abilities.

Badger: Rage
Wolf: Knockdown attacks
Brown Bear: Most powerful attacks
Boar: Highest health
Giant Spider: Poisonous attacks

Animal companions can be named, but cannot be tinted.

Looks like familiars will be a lot more like PnP than the NWN ones.

Toolset Videos and E3 Content Coming!

Well things have quieted down quite a bit on the whole DM client issue and I have to get ready for my trip back home but I wanted to share what upcoming content I have gathered. My first trip to Obisidian on Tuesday was to ask all your questions and resulted in two hours of recorded answers thanks to Obsidian Lead Designer, Josh Sawyer and Lead Scripter Charles Mead. Then I checked out all the NWN2 installations on the show floor and then on Thursday I met with Obsidian Toolset Expert, Scott Everts to get quite a few videos of the toolset and tons of info to share. Special thanks to Obsidian's Brian Fox for his help. The videos only captured only the main view but I've included a screen grab of the dual monitor setup that Scott uses to give you something in the meantime. It's a huge image at 3200x1200 pixels and over 2MB so there's tons of detail. If there is another view of the toolset you'd like to see, post a comment and I will try to get it though no promises.

I have a super early flight and will be offline for the next 24 hours at the very least. But when I get settled back home, I'll start on processing all the content. See you then!

GodSpire General / Trident-only duels!
« on: May 12, 2006, 02:37:23 PM »
OK, this weekend is Trident-only PvP Weekend!. Time to make your trident builds and come have a ridiculous time on GodSpire.

Some highlights of the trident-only PvP match:

1. No trident feats (no WM ab munchkins)
2. No weapon finesse (can't have both high AB AND AC)
3. No archers (yeah!)
4. No halflings/gnomes (double yeah!)
5. No shields

See you there!

NwN General / Peg legs bugged
« on: May 08, 2006, 10:10:36 PM »
There is a graphic error with one of the peg leg armor appearances. Shin armor model 12 (the left peg leg with the bare right leg) is broken for non-human, male, normal phenotype PC races. It's not broken on the "large" phenotypes so fat-asses of all races/genders still get pegs.

Use shin #13 for a left peg leg that works on the all PC models.

NWN 2 General / Visible AoE Spell Targets in PvP
« on: May 05, 2006, 02:35:38 PM »
In the last of the three NWN2 videos linked to this thread you can see that Obsidian is being true to its Black Isle roots with pretty AoE spell targets that show the caster the exact size of the spells radius.

While I find this a big improvment for the RPG aspect of the game I have to wonder what its impact on caster PvP is going to be. For one thing it will prevent all us wanna-be caster duelers from killing ourselves with Ice Storm.

But does this mean it will open up caster dueling to newbs? Can you imagine GS2 halls being full of aspiring casters shouting "What are good spells for a <insert caster class here>?"

I personally vote for the targeting graphic as I suck at caster PvP and I could use all the help I can get with targeting Ice Storm. The chessboard helps with the targeting but in the heat of duel I often whack myself with an Ice Storm or two.

NwN General / DLA Made Premium Mod Needs Beta Testers
« on: April 26, 2006, 03:09:39 PM »
New Bioware premium mod created by the Dragonlance Adventures people needs beta testers. I already signed up!

Quote
No - not the announcement you've REALLY been waiting for - but we're very close folks.

Our Premium Mod is in the process of being submitted to BioWare for review and approval. We require Beta Testers to assist us in identifying bugs and other issues with the mod and our content to assist us in the final push before release.

We prefer a mix of CPU and video cards on the test team. You will require at least 750 meg free on your HD for the install. (Yes, 750 meg. That is not a typo.)

We are extending this offer open to loyal forum regulars who have been so patient with us over these years before we post the announcement on the front page and on the Vault.

You will be required to sign an NDA with BioWare.

You must be over 18 years of age to join the beta test team.

Those intertested, mail steelwind@dladventures.com and I will respond with more info.

GodSpire General / Why Antes are considered noobs on GodSpire

All a matter of opinion. If the Antes want to lose their newbie status with the GodSpire regulars then they need to stop exiting the server whenever they are about to lose a duel. It is very rude.

It is also very rude when they don't bother saying "gf" after a duel (when they choose not to just log off the server that is).

The only people that I know that lack internet etiquette are newbies and ass-holes. If they'd prefer to be known by the other term I'll be happy to oblige.
