Diablo III General / Diablo III on 5/15/12!
« on: March 15, 2012, 12:50:35 PM »
As Mo stated in the Diablo III Beta thread:
Release date May 15th.  Geez I need to finish Skyrim and ME3 before I get this...

If you buy the digital version you will be able to download it and play the moment it's released.

Diablo III digital pre-order

As D.J. Jon would say, "Log on. Make purchase."

Random Ranting / Crazy Parents
« on: February 17, 2012, 08:52:30 PM »
This topic is for ranting about crazy parents.

My mom called me this afternoon to ask what I did with the money my grandpa left me when he died 2 years ago.

I said something along the lines: "I dunno, I put it in the bank with the rest of my money?!"

Then she responds that she invested her money and gets $800 a month from it!

I asked what she invested in and she responded that she didn't know.

So, I can officially say that as of this date I'm still more sane than my mom!

Feel free to post your own bizarre parental conversations here.

Trailer on Steam

Official Site

This game looks hilarious but I'm not going to get it right now because I'm playing too many games at the moment as it is. It's only $14.99, but it's download-only so you must have Steam and a credit card (or give some cash to a friend with a credit card and they can gift it to you).

I just got into the Diablo III beta! Not sure how much info I'm allowed to share (need to give the EULA a look) but I'll post what I can here.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Thought I'd start a new topic since people are playing and commenting on the game:
I got Star Wars Old Republic for Christmas so I am on that now for at least 3 months. Then I will decide if I want to cough up my own cash to keep playing. Not too bad as far as RPGs go. I don't get much of a sense of urgency or real accomplishment for quests, though after 4 days I am still in the prologue. Visually its pretty weak. I know its an MMO and so it cuts down on the graphics to ensure better playability but a little texture and shading would be nice. It looks like NWN 2 on low settings. I'll post more about it later If anyone is interested.

We prefer "WoW 2.0 w/ Star Wars theme" :P

I'll put it this way.

Warhammer Online has better graphics.

And supposedly some of the EA Mythic peeps helped the Bioware team.

Post your screenshots, patch info, and opinions here! (Oh, and what class are people playing? Bounty Hunter looked like the coolest one in pre-release reviews.)

Random Ranting / Too Stupid To Live
« on: December 17, 2011, 12:26:51 PM »
I hope this new topic is self-explanatory based on this example:
9-year-old NYC boy chokes in school cafeteria
Quote
Witnesses say a fourth-grade boy choked on meatballs during lunch in a New York City school cafeteria this month and later died.

The New York Post (http://nyp.st/td2pmw ) reports that 9-year-old Jonathan Jewth fell to the ground during lunch Dec. 5 and was unconscious before help arrived. They say cafeteria workers at Public School 47 in the Bronx didn't know what to do and failed to help him.

Jonathan's family says the little boy suffered brain damage and died Monday.

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott says his death was a tragedy. Education officials haven't responded to requests for comment about what witnesses say the workers did.

Information from: New York Post, http://www.nypost.com

After I read this I said to Throbble:

"I bet if I was a school official and told the parents: 'I'm sorry but your 9-year-old was too stupid to live. I mean, he choked to death on a meatball, which is the most harmless of meats.' it would be frowned upon."

Throbble laughed.

Diablo III General / Diablo III Builds
« on: October 18, 2011, 01:57:38 PM »
I've been playing around with the Diablo III Skill Calculator while impatiently waiting to be invited to the closed beta. I only got a couple builds in mind but I'll add more as I make them.

First one is an idea for a Barbarian Tank, second is a Monk Healer build. (Is there a way to place uploaded images inline?)

Post your own!

EDIT: Wizard Cold Nuke Build added.

EDIT EDIT (10/19/11):

Demon Hunter - I was going for a balance between skills that generate hatred, skills that cost hatred, and skills that cost discipline (there doesn't seem to be any way to generate discipline through skills but they are relatively inexpensive to use). I tried to concentrate on big area damage with slow effects. The passive skills regen life or enhance my damaging skills.

Witch Doctor - Basically a summoner build with runestone mods that generate mana.

Computer stuff / Reinstalling Windows XP
« on: October 06, 2011, 01:16:34 PM »
A couple months back Throbblefoot got a virus/malware or something evil and I had to reinstall her OS. I've done this in the past with older versions of Windows by simply renaming the Windows directory then reinstalling the OS and applications allowing me to preserve the data files (save games, documents, pictures, etc.). Never ran into any problems before.

However, it doesn't seem to have gone as smoothly with the Windows XP reinstall. Some applications return errors when I try to install them now and I can't figure out why. Anyone have any insights on this?

Thanks,

New Muppets Movie!

Why did I just find out about this now?! Why didn't Jim Henson contact me from beyond the grave to inform me of this movie?!?! Why didn't Guinen beam down to tell me she was going to be in this movie?!?!?!

And finally: Why isn't Seth Green in this movie?!?!?!?! (He was in Greg the Bunny and is practically a muppet himself.)

I've never heard of the Saints Row games because the first two were exclusively console games but the 3rd one is coming out on PC too and it looks pretty fucking special. Though I think I have to preorder it if I want that vehicle they show at the very end.

Computer stuff / Need a New Sound Card
« on: July 23, 2011, 09:05:52 PM »
When I bought this new computer I asked for a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card the dude at the store assured me that the on-board Realtek sound on my motherboard would be sufficient. Also, they were out of stock.

Well, it turns out that Diablo II (yes I still play) doesn't allow 3d Sound or Environmental Effects for on-board Realtek sound. So I went looking for a Sound Blaster and it seems that the old X-Fi Xtreme Audio and X-Fi XtremeGamer cards aren't available anymore and the new coolness is the X-Fi Titanium which, depending on the model, can range from $80 to over $200.

Is the Titanium the new XtremeGamer? What's the difference in performance between the models? Why am I freaking out?

General Gaming / Brink Character Pics
« on: June 14, 2011, 05:41:18 PM »
I didn't want to clutter up the Brink discussion thread with a bunch of potentially large pics so I created this thread. Each character has two unique looks, one for the Security and one for the Resistance. The look your character uses depends on the side you join in a game.

Also, you must choose a "favored" side when you create a new character. I don't know if this has any actual affect on the game other than determining what your character looks like by default on the character selection screen. These are listed in the order they were created.

Random Ranting / Our Anniversary Present
« on: May 02, 2011, 12:51:37 PM »
So, Throbble and I went to Harris' Steakhouse to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary last night. After dinner, when we got into a cab to go home the cabbie said, "Oh, you must have been in there for a couple hours so you don't know the news." After a few feeble guesses about the "world changing event" he revealed that Osama bin Laden had been killed.

So, happy anniversary to us and ding dong the wicked witch is dead!

General Gaming / BioWare/EA DRM
« on: April 13, 2011, 02:21:25 PM »
Looks like BioWare requires authorization before you can play some of their single-player games. Their DLC server was down last weekend so people were unable to play DA:O even if they didn't have any DLC content anyone who tried to play got a "DLC not authorized" error. Fucking fascists.

Random Ranting / Zombie Nazi?
« on: April 10, 2011, 09:50:11 PM »
Throbble and I were discussing how killing zombies, no matter what game, never gets old. And I replied that Nazis were also fun to slaughter to no end. Then we started talking about the Wolfenstein series and Throbble says: you can't call them "Zombie Nazis" because it's grammatically incorrect. And why not "Nazi Zombie" or "Zombified Nazi"?

Here is my logic:

Zombie Nazi - Implies Nazi before death and zombification

Nazi Zombie - Implies recruited as a Nazi after death and zombification

Zombified Nazi - Uh... no. It just sounds like some sort of title or rank, like they get the dignity of having more syllables in the first part of their description. "I'm not a 'zombie' I have been 'zombified'." I don't buy it.

So, what do you all think?

Glad this doesn't affect NWN because I was once temp banned from BioWare's old forums at the request of an Obsidian douchebag because he was embarrassed about how bad they fucked up NWN2.

General Gaming / Infinity Engine Games on GOG
« on: November 15, 2010, 01:24:13 PM »
I decided to make a post with links to all the Infinity Engine games on Good Old Games.

Baldur's Gate + Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn + Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal Expansion

Fallout

Fallout 2

Icewind Dale + Heart of Winter and Trials of The Luremaster Expansions

Icewind Dale II + Adventure Pack

Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader

Planescape: Torment

The Temple of Elemental Evil

I've beaten all of these games except ToEE and Fallout. I just couldn't get into ToEE and I couldn't find a copy of Fallout when I first discovered Fallout 2. Maybe I'll download it from GOGs.

Diablo III is going to be so awesome.

The whole artisan thing sounds so bad ass.

Blizzard has had that little hiring message there for years now... and they're located in California, how come you don't work there yet? :P
Irvine California? You got to be kidding. It's a shit hole surrounded by shit holes encompassed by LA which is like a meta shit hole.

Northern California has been trying to split off from everything south of Monterey for decades. Stupid desert dwellers taking all our fresh water to put into their swimming pools.
