General Gaming / Orphan Feast
« on: May 11, 2008, 07:08:08 PM »
A new game I've grown fond of - Orphan Feast
Pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It takes a little practice - think "polo" when using the melee attack, and think "Mario" when trying to knock out the orphans.

ThrobbleServ / Nice to see you all!
« on: April 09, 2008, 02:03:27 AM »
Today, Smith Hold saw Calia, Elessar, Tyreal and Red Ronnet - all in quick succession. It was absolutely great to see you all, but it would be greater still to see more of you at once - like the old days, as it were. We could get ours duels on. And also, Red is running a 9AC GodSpireHaven mod. Check it out and let us know how it goes.

News & Annoucements / Food recall due to Botulism in canned goods
« on: July 27, 2007, 09:14:56 PM »
While I'm not one to consume such culinary delights as Thrifty Maid Hot Dog Chili Sauce  or Piggly Wiggly Corned Beef Hash (in 15 oz. cans no less), some of the rest of you might want to carefully clean out the cupboard. If you have a taste for canned chili (or if your dog eats Natural Balance brand food), you need this information.

Most importantly, check out the (disturbingly lengthy) list of recalled products - but don't miss the article about retailers trying to kill your ass with canned goods.

Here's the info:

Random Ranting / LazyTown - aka: You cheap bastard
« on: July 23, 2007, 02:22:35 AM »
So there is this thing called LazyTown which is pretty scary, but come on, it's more compelling than any US kids show, and you bastards kept it from me (Anheg, I'm looking at you, pal). At any rate, fear their ambiguous storyline!

Discussion / Throbblefoot enters the 20th century
« on: April 19, 2007, 11:40:11 PM »
So as 420 and I sat on the side of the freeway and waited for the nice AAA dude to tow the broken down car to the airport so we could rent a car to go home on Easter, it suddenly dawned on me: at this point, I'm only torturing myself by not getting a cell phone. I mean, sure, we were 500 feet from a call box, but that won't always be the case, and who knows how long we could sit there waiting for a Good Samaritan?

Okay, that's long winded intro , but I want to make it clear: I'm getting this bloody electronic leash against my better judgment.

So, on to the flame war....

Tell me, gentlefolk: which wireless company is the least reprehensible and has the best voice quality and coverage/signal strength?

Thanks,

Random Ranting / The Jargon File
« on: December 06, 2006, 11:16:11 PM »
I stumbled across the old Jargon File - I don;t think I've looked at it since the 1990s! It describes slang and culture of "hackers," but of course  many of their terms and jokes have now entered mainstream culture. As I was cracking up about "juggling eggs," 420 said I should post a link - so here you go:
The Jargon File

And now you know what a geek I really am....

ThrobbleServ / Where is Smith Hold?!
« on: July 29, 2006, 09:58:58 PM »
Smith Hold is temporarily supplanted by Sigil the City of Doors. You'll need a couple haks to get in, but it's the best way to see all the CODI content. Well, as much of the CODI content as would fit....

Here's 420's description:

[attachmentid=848]
You know you want this puppy!

Hints
1. You can float candles in many areas.

Happy Hunting!

ThrobbleServ / Where is everyone;s favorite Dwarven City!?
« on: June 23, 2006, 11:13:48 PM »
We had some driver difficulty that led (eventually) to ThrobbleServ disappearing off GameSpy for a few days. We seem to have fixed the problem, so welcome back!

If you're interested in the solution, read on....

We thought it might relate to WNW ports, as was discussed previously:

Try this thread on the Bioware NWN Server Admin forum: (Link)

However, that didn't fix the problem. We also had to open some ports specific to GameSpy, as discussed here: Bioware Technical Forum
Check out the second post (by Filchin) about GameSpy ports.

GodSpire General / Disagreement in Number
« on: May 14, 2006, 07:09:56 PM »
I'm logged into Godspire, and I see 2 other players on.
I look at the LM "who's online" and it says no one is on.
I log out and back in to look at the player list. It tells me 3 people are on.
I log on, there are 2 other people on.

Those numbers just don't add up....

Guild Wars Guilds / Culann's Hound's album now available
« on: March 23, 2006, 06:56:17 PM »
As many of you know, the Culann's Hounds GW guild is named after my brother's band, Culann's Hounds.  Their new album (Year of the Dog) was released last Friday, and is now available at CD Baby. A few of you asked how to get it or sample it, so here are a few links:
New Hounds CD at CD Baby
Hounds' MySpace page (has audio from the cd and and video from the gig at the Great American Music Hall)
Hounds' official site
Hounds' Merchandise

Don't bother asking which is my brother; they're all like family.

Sorta like "Clan General" in the GodSpire forum, this is a place to discuss anything about guilds for general consumption. I'll post the Culann's Hounds roster here in a bit.

GodSpire General / Clan Battle 4: Postponed
« on: October 09, 2004, 01:21:09 PM »
This unfortunate turn of events was precipitated by the general crappiness of the 1.64 patch, and the instability of the server today. The server is crashing just about every 10 minutes, and some clients seem to be crashing much more frequently than that. The DM client seems especially unstable.

There is no way to hold a battle under those conditions.

Thanks for all who showed up, and sorry it took us an hour to decide to postpone. Please post thoughts on dealing with the other changes to NWN with the patch, especially the total weakness of dispel.

Thanks,

Throbblefoot

Clan General / Why?
« on: October 09, 2004, 01:52:03 AM »
420 and Anheg made a good suggestion: a non-partisan (if you will) discussion area for clans and non-affiliated players to chat about clan issues. Here it is - have at!

Feedback & Community / Skins
« on: October 05, 2004, 01:42:27 PM »
I don't seem to be able to change the skin I'm using here on LM. I can select other skins from the drop down at the bottom of the page, but it never changes the look of the forum. Is there a bug or am I just missing something?

Thanks,

GodSpire General / Battle #2: Sunday, SUNday! SUNDAY!
« on: September 19, 2004, 12:48:34 AM »
So, I was able to talk to a High Elf (Lady Heaven) and 2 Marauders Council Members (Bus, Taarna), and we're going to try to get a battle going tomorrow.
Due to the short notice, we've got a special rule:
1. In order for the battle to proceed, we must have quorum (definition 2). In our case, that's between 4 and 6 players for each side. If we don't get that, we don't proceed.

The proposed time was either 11 PM GMT or 12 AM GMT, but I recommend 12 AM GMT, as more people who I spoke to seemed to be able to make that time. Here's the Time Zone Breakdown:

5 PM PST (San Francisco)
8 PM EST (New York)
12 AM GMT (Greenwich)
12 Noon (Auckalnd)

Please let me know what you think! 19 hours and counting...

NwN General / Question about Drow Matrons
« on: September 16, 2004, 01:59:51 PM »
So we had a hard-core RPG-er on Smith Hold the other night. She gave some  interesting feedback, including raising an issue about the nature of Drow Matrons.

She claimed a Drow Matron could ever been a class other than cleric. Does anyone have a reference that would either support or refute this?

Thanks,

GodSpire General / String!

GodSpire General / Terms of the War
« on: September 04, 2004, 02:05:02 AM »
Despite an alarming lack of string, I've scheduled a meeting  to discuss war terms
for tomorrow at (depending on your time zone):
3:30 PM PST (GMT-8)
5:30 PM CST (GMT-6)
6:30 PM EST(GMT-5)
11:30 PM (uh... GMT)
9:30 AM  BBS (GMT+12) (uh, bus's bed time?!) (so that's like the 5th or something?!)

Okay so the time zone thing isn't my forte. Let's put it this way: I'll be there to hash out terms at 3:30 my time. Terms will be posted as soon as possible. If some crazy Wingil (or BzK) cements your clan to weird promises, guess what? They stick!

ThrobbleServ / Welcome!
« on: September 02, 2004, 09:58:45 PM »
Welcome to the Smith Hold/ThrobbleServ forum!

About This Forum
I've added this forum to provide an avenue for feedback. If there's something you love or hate, or something you want us to add, please post it. We may not agree with you, but we've used most people's suggestions.

About ThrobbleServ
ThrobbleServ is a NWN server that hosts Smith Hold, the "semi-persistent" mod 420 and I have been building since NWN's release. In addition to the exhaustive (and exhausting) back-story and detailed environment, Smith Hold offers quests, a PvP arena, a leveler, an alignment changer, extensive and varied shops, and an infinte gold supply (plus tons of stuff you'll just have to discover for yourself).

ThrobbleServ is found in the Social channel. Generally we run it from 9 AM - 12 Midnight PT. If you see that it's passworded, 420 and I are either testing or playing a different mod. Come back later!

A note on proper conduct in ThrobbleServ: Every rule of GS probably applies to ThrobbleServ. Let me stress that, while we may be more lax about randoming players, we are much more strict about derogatory terms, griefers, and vandalism.
