This game is awesome as shitballs. (okay, more awesome than that, but let's pretend shitballs are awesome)

It's still early access, but the devs are actively working on it and making patches, and the game is great as it is in it's current incarnation, even.

It's on sale right now, not sure for how much, but this game is sweet even for people who are terrified of deep ocean/sea exploration. :P

Random Ranting / I made a post...
« on: May 13, 2016, 05:31:08 PM »
When my daughter was born. I literally just thought about it earlier when I was checking LM. So I decided why not? I'll update my little family of gamer's here about my son being born on the 9th. He was born in the same hospital as my daughter. He's also got long fingers and toes like she did, and close to the same height, at 19 inches, her being 19 and a half. He was a much healthier size though, being 6 lbs. 11 oz at birth, with a discharge weight of 6 lbs. 4.4 oz. He's already regained all of his birth weight like a champ. He has dark brown/almost black hair like his mom, and his eyes haven't shown their true color yet. He was born at 04:20 A.M.

My daughter is Auriel Azrael, my son is Ezekiel Alastair. Very happy to have gotten a boy as well, that was my hope.

I also ended up going through a lot of pain during the whole thing due to a tooth ache. No pain killers or relievers worked much or for long, except the shot of toradol the ER gave me. I swelled up pretty bad too and was quite miserable. I ended up getting to squeeze into a dentist's schedule in the same town as the hospital and got five teeth pulled. Literally five. That made all of the difference, I had quite the infection. Now I feel better, but talk kind of funny. Mostly just happy my son is healthy.

General Gaming / Trine

5 games on sale on Steam right now for $9. The entire Trine trilogy, in addition to two other games, Shadowgrounds and Shadowgrounds 2.

I already bought mine. I played and beat Trine 1 on GOG a few years ago, it was a great sidescrolling game, and I'm not usually too big into side scrollers, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Just the first game is worth $9 in my opinion, let alone getting the second, third, and two other games. I read that the third installment bombed because of budget and the devs ran out of money, which is terribly unfortunate, but still worth it for this price imo.

Thought I'd let you guys know.

General Gaming / Saints Row
« on: December 23, 2015, 10:43:21 AM »
The Saints Row franchise and all of it's DLC is available on Steam right now for only $17. This includes all DLC and all games except for Saints Row 1, because that was an Xbox 360 exclusive.

I seriously highly recommend this franchise. Especially to people who enjoy GTA. If you thought GTA V was good and had the best ability to customize you've seen yet... Saints Row did that on game #1, and only got better from there.

Admittedly, Saints Row 3 gets a little over-frivolous, but it's still awesome and a very good game. Saints Row 4 takes it too far. It's still a lot of fun, but, like I said too far. And I haven't tried Gat out of Hell yet, because 4 kind of left a sour taste in my mouth.

But, even getting 3 with all of it's DLC is worth $17. Especially 2 and 3, let alone getting the others on top of that.

General Gaming / Town of Salem
« on: November 28, 2015, 12:23:02 PM »
Town of Salem is interesting in it's own right, and different from the standard. One of those games you can pick up and put down basically whenever, in between games or during long ones, etc. Or at least, that's my experience. Only $5 usually, $3.34 right now. That's if you get it on Steam, otherwise you can play on your browser for free just by visiting the website.

It's a game based on deception. Basically you want to try and get other players to believe you, whether you're telling the truth or not.

If anyone makes an account, please let them know SoulSojourner referred you.

I made a Facebook post about this one. I'll re-post that here.

Quote
Town of Salem is an investigative multiplayer game, based around a town filled with deception. It is incredibly fun, and very affordable on Steam, if that is your preferred gaming application. Otherwise, you can easily visit their website at http://www.blankmediagames.com/ to create an account and begin playing.

Discuss, put people on trial, vote, and lynch during the day.
There are various roles for good guys, bad guys, and people who fit in-between. There's the normal town-members, who are all on the same team, but start the game not knowing who anybody else is. Town members have investigative roles, protective roles, support roles, and killing roles. For example, an Investigator, a Doctor, a Medium, a Spy, or a Veteran. The town wins when all of the bad guys are dead.

There's a Mafia, and they start out knowing who their own members are. There are some bad guys they can win with, but they mostly want everyone else dead. They conspire in private at night, deciding who to kill, blackmail, distract, and so on.
There are other bad guy roles that usually work independently. Arsonists, who douse people in gas at night, and then light them all on fire. Serial killers who sneak into people's houses and murder them. Werewolves, vampires, and more.

There are neutral roles too. The witch controls people at night. The Jester tries to get the town members to lynch him, and then haunts them at night when they do. The executioner tries to get a certain town-member killed. The survivor just tries to survive until the end.

There are so many more roles, and each with their own purpose. Instead of having an "in-game" system determine how good your character does at the game, -you- decide how good you do using your own investigative skills and reasoning. Discussing with other players and trying to figure out who is on your side and who is not, how to survive, or how to kill them. wink emoticon
I've been playing from time to time for months now. I love this game.

Check it out!
Please let them know that SoulSojourner referred you. Thanks!

General Gaming / This War of Mine
« on: November 28, 2015, 12:14:04 PM »
This is a great addition to your Steam libraries while it's on sale. I think it's only $6.79 right now.

I've got 86 hours into it so far, and I wasn't even done with it when I stopped playing it. Went somewhere over a weekend and got addicted to something else. lol

This is my Steam review on it:
Quote
Introduction:
For anybody considering getting this game... this is a hidden gem.

This War of Mine focuses on what other war games simply do not. The lives of regular people who are affected by the war, civilians. The thing to think about is, what would -you- do if war broke out around you, and you had to struggle to survive? Would you be willing to turn your back on neighbors and friends? Would you risk your own health and safety by sharing supplies with strangers, or leaving your shelter to help others?
This War of Mine takes on a more personal tone in regards to player experience. If you've ever read any first person war documentaries, this feels like you're playing one. You read the bio entries of your sheltered civilians, and empathize with them and their struggles every step of the way. Survival is really only half of the game, personal comfort and distractions is the other half.
This is one of those games that I figured, even if I like it, it won't take long to beat and I won't put a lot of hours into it, but I was wrong. I am over 60 hours right now and still playing it, and the only part of the game I even considered remotely boring was doing a solo Marko run and "playing the squirrel." The Anton and Cveta scenario was just downright frustrating, but I imagine that two older people trying to survive with only eachother in the middle of a war would probably have a hard time making it.
Pros:
+Varied morality based on each citizen's life/lifestyle.

+Scavenging and combat system is well rounded and not entirely unrealistic.

+Excellent crafting system that compliments the games trading system.

+The survival aspect of the game forces you to manage resources and prioritize crafting.

+Addictions require you to consider an added level of comfort for those who have them, as well as an additional way to cope.

+Excellent personal stories and biographies give you an emotional connection to the civilians in your charge.

+Random events that add flavor to the everyday struggle in your shelter.

+Artistic style and game atmosphere.

+Varied survivor personalities and skills.

+Survivors with skills that are useful in real-life, but not-so-useful during a war, gives perspective to how war affects everyone.

+Alcohol can be used to help sad people feel better, but also as a trading item.
"Everyone should choose one happy memory. And it can't just be good, it has to be grand. When it gets so bad you just want to sit down and cry, when you life seems forfeit, you close your eyes and go back to your happy moment. It's not easy but you have to try." -The Survivor Marko

Cons:
-A few minor bugs, most pertaining to the morality system. (Example: Citizens getting sad from "stealing" in a location where there used to be armed thugs. Everyone there is dead, it's not technically stealing anymore, and even if it was, it was from bad guys that one of your civilians already killed. (and were happy about it)

-Some aspects of the game are particularly easy to exploit. (Examples: You can change the random event of that day, or someone getting sick, or a few other aspects, just by leaving the game and restarting that day. Another example is that you can prevent resources from being stolen during a raid by starting a building project, and then canceling the project the next day to get your resources back.)

-Sometimes during the day you wish you could speed it up a bit while waiting for your civilians to dig through rubble or catch up on sleep, but you can only "end day" which is often more time than you wish to skip. A speed-up/slow-down feature would be nice. Also a "pause" feature that allows you to issue commands to your people at once, without having to try to flip between them as quickly as possible.

-It gets fairly repetitive after a few games, luckily there is an alternative shelter you can play in that helps to combat the repitition a little.

-Could definitely use more survivor options, base options, and customization of both of these things in both the regular game, as well as creating your own story.

-Could do with much more crafting possibilities and game items. Even the couch that you can sit on in some scavenging areas but can't craft for your own shelter is a good example.

-Depending on the length of the game, the construction space of your shelter can be very limited.

-Something like a craftable safe to keep select items more secure during raids would be a helpful concept.

UPDATE: -I almost forgot the most annoying con. "Alt+Tab" or basically any minimizing from full-screen mode will crash the game. The only "fix" I have found for this, is to switch to Windowed mode at the title screen, and then switch back to full-screen. For some reason, "Alt+Tab" works after that!
"I've been running into either unsufferable rubes or outright criminals. But I feel that you're different. And for a scientist with an established position like me, the company of people of comparable mental capacity is paramount. Besides.. ah, bloody hell, I can't stand faking it anymore! I'm just an old fart who knows nothing. I'm so grateful for your company. I've been out there alone for too long. Way too long." -The Survivor Anton

The Good and Bad:
+/-Save Intervals. It would be nice if it saved it at the start of every night, as well as every day, but it also forces you to re-do an entire day, if you decide to exit out of the game when something goes wrong at night.
+/-The rainwater collector can be placed pretty much anywhere. It doesn't make sense to place it anywhere.
"I used to be an optimist - one of those people who'd have sworn that war wouldn't come. Wars happened far away, in third-world countries. Or so I thought. Even when I was listening to the news getting scarier day by day, I did not believe all that was about to happen." -The Survivor Bruno

RECOMMEDED?
Without a doubt. Even if this game costed twice as much, knowing what I do from having played it, I would buy it.

Random Ranting / Just felt like showing these off...
« on: April 10, 2013, 10:26:58 AM »
I made a new wallpaper a few weeks ago. I typically always make my own wallpapers and whatnot, but it's been awhile since I've been in a creative mood and I realized I hadn't gotten around to creating a wallpaper for my current resolution yet (after a switched monitors quite some time back on my old computer). So I typically make something that usually says "Ama-Gi Society" or "Soul Sojourner" but there are some "character" names I like to use in games a lot and decided I would actually make a wallpaper with the most common one. This also happened to be my main character in Path of Exile, so I themed it accordingly and added a few PoE exclusive elements.

My main character is a Marauder, so if you look you can see text for that as well as the Marauder's head in one of the letters. I typically make an entire image from scratch sometimes employing bits and pieces of other images in it in different ways, but this time the entire background image was found elsewhere. It just looked too good for what I wanted to do to pass up.

The second one is an old one for my old monitor/resolution, it's theme is obvious. The third one is themed similar to the second one, the cuneiform on the wallpaper means "ama-gi." The fourth one is themed as album art for a song I created, the mushroom is a tattoo done by someone not me; it was just a sketch, I did everything else to it.

1280x768
1280x800
1280x800
1920x1080

Edit: Right Click and view in a different tab to see the whole image if it's cut-off.
Edit: Tried re-uploading the Je'valla one because the quality was lost, still lost. It's now the fourth one, instead of the first one.

Random Ranting / Most/Least Literate Cities in America
« on: February 18, 2013, 12:32:55 PM »
I recently read an article about the most and the least literate cities in America.
According to the article these are the most (in order):
1. Washington, D.C.
2. Seattle, Washington
3. Minneapolis, Minnesota
4. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
5. Denver, Colorado

This is the part that I found amusing. The five least literate cities are all in Texas and California, and despite their populations, have no cities in the top five.
America's least literate cities:
1. Bakersfield, California
2. Corpus Christi, Texas
3. Stockton, California
4. El Paso, Texas
5. Anaheim, California

Diablo III General / Quick Thoughts...
« on: September 12, 2012, 12:10:44 PM »
Cursed items would be sweet. It should be possible to wear all cursed gear. Cursed should be it's own classification. Like legendary, only irremovable. Also, some of the most powerful items in the game ought to be cursed.

ooh.. and cursed sets should exist.

Rare items should actually be rare, not simply uncommon.

Normal items shouldn't be useless.

There should be a such thing as "limited" items where only a set amount of the item may drop in the game and some may be more uncommon than others. Say some may be as few as 10 whereas others only as uncommon as 10,000. If one is somehow "lost" (perhaps through character deletion) it could be found again through normal means. This would certainly spice up the auction house.

A gear based game.... and the gem variation is strangely less than that of it's predecessor.

Level cap = existent only to waste time, considering how largely irrelevant and easily attainable it is.
Oh wow! A level! Great, now I can use the gear I already went through the trouble of obtaining!

The plot shouldn't suck.

Oh yeah and fuck gold. This isn't Mario, mother fuckers.

Random Ranting / This week...
« on: August 23, 2012, 01:14:47 PM »
I've been busy taking care of a new addition to my family.

My daughter was just born Sunday night at 8:18 P.M. central time. She weighed a whopping 5 lbs 6 oz. Although for her tiny size she has long legs and arms (and fingers and toes) and measured 19 1/2 inches in length. She has lots of blonde hair and has blue eyes, which we suspect will stay blue as both her mother and I have blonde hair and blue eyes. By the time we left the hospital yesterday she weighted 5 lbs even, as newborns typically lose some weight right away. She's very small but in perfect health and was born only a day after her due date. She was born only 18 miles from where I was born.

We decided to name her Auriel Azrael.

My wife is doing well and we just got home from the hospital yesterday evening. My cat is curious but frightened. Haha. I have returned to the video games and am re-adjusting my sleep schedule back to nights for work Sunday. Woohoo!

Not looking forward to work though. :P

General Gaming / Gothic
« on: June 21, 2012, 11:44:42 AM »
Anybody heard of it?

I seen a sale on GOG awhile back for Gothic and Gothic 2 maybe even the third one, can't recall for certain. (verified) Anyway, I then seen all three on sale as a bundle on Steam, and then seen 2 and 3 were added to Gamefly's instant PC play. This all happened around the same time and all sales were on at the same time. It piqued my curiosity so I looked at them and they actually looked pretty fun. At the time I had games prioritized and didn't feel like spending the money, but basically put a mental rain-check on it for later. I just got around to buying Gothic 1 on GOG late last week and it's actually pretty cool. It's an older game but despite ancient graphics it is able to hold my attention, which means a lot nowadays.

One thing about the first of the series that makes this one an unforgettable classic is it's control scheme. It's about the most retarded piece of shit anybody could have ever come up with for an RPG. But, despite this, and the severe learning curve, and everything being overpowered and you being a twig, it is a game worth playing... once you get used to it. I know after all that it doesn't sound very good, but it is actually quite fun once you get into it, it just requires a little patience in the beginning of the game, either that or godmode. Which, I won't hold it against anybody for using, I went some time without it and learned that, eventually I can get strong enough to actually stand a chance against things, but it's not worth it. Godmode activated. Suffice to say, the game isn't any less fun with it on than when it was off, probably more fun, actually.

Anyway, I can talk about it all day if I wanted to, but checking it out for yourself is really the only way to do it justice. Besides, I mainly wanted to know if anyone else has heard of or played any of the series.

Fucking machine.

If it's any consolation my memory recalls this: 420 Remembers growing up with Throbble and Cuch, and remembers from when he was 13 an old man waving a cane at him which resulted in his asking his mother to pull over so they could settle their differences. He offered to share more of his dealings with old people as they were ever-present while growing up.

Also, Ivon said something about having an old-people toenail clippings collection. :P

Yeah, I seen this awhile ago, and I just got a beta key about a week ago, I am considering testing it out, but it sounds pretty sweet.

http://www.gamefly.com/download-games/beta/

By my understanding, now for you PC exclusive people, you can finally play games that have been limited to consoles. Not completely sure if that's accurate, Nor am I sure on how this system is going to work, but it sounds pretty sweet nonetheless. It'd be even sweeter, if you could get achievements (for Xbox) and trophies (for PS3) unlocked in games you play in it on your actual gamer tag. Maybe something they'll find a way to implement later, if they can get Sony and Microsoft to go for it.

Edit: I've been looking at the beta and it seems like you can manage your game Q and rent games and shit through it, but since it's beta, I am still unable to tell if you can play console exclusive games on PC. The video makes it sound that way, anyway: "All Titles, All Platforms, All Access, Available Instantly on your PC or Mac."

Edit: I have an extra beta key if anyone's interested, send me a PM.

Discussion / Anybody Else...?
« on: September 12, 2011, 05:51:55 PM »
Anybody else here financially dry? Broke as a joke? At the bottom of the barrel and it's lookin' pretty empty?

Shiiit. I checked my bank account online, -$15 and a crap ton of transactions pending, as well as more not yet entered. I had to skimp on the rent... and it still wasn't enough, so I just borrowed $100 from my dad to try and make it through till Wednesday, when I get a half a paycheck from my old job, and have to wait a week+ before I get one from my new job.

Plus almost $10,000 in medical bills! WOOHOO! My favorite. Yay, and now I owe my dad $150 too! YESS!!!

Know what? I blame that FUCKING LEVAQUIN! I spent about $800 on those fucking antibiotics to take the fuckers for a whole fucking month, only to have it NOT solve my problem, and then end up paying more to try steroids and all sorts of other shit which also did NOT solve my problem. That was the result of a $2,500+ medical bill from the doctor visit I got prescribed that shit. Add in the follow up doctor visits where I came in and said shit wasn't working and they gave me other shit, and eventually started treating me like I was making it up. Fucking assholes.

Whatever happened to a money back guarantee? Maybe they would think twice about prescribing you shit that doesn't work if the cost ends up coming back to them when it doesn't.

I also blame my wife a little bit for pulling some shit awhile back, which ended up costing me a few hundred, for basically no good reason at all.

I blame Newegg for advertising that Monitor... Microsoft, for being greedy fucks, my bank which will soon be my "old" bank, cause they're shitheads. And I blame the fucking insurance assholes, for canceling my shit without fucking telling me, so I end up with a fucking dentist bill, and then being stupid fucking asshats and fucking me around as I am trying for over a year to get back on it, only to, in the end, fuck everyone over by changing all of their shit. Fuckheads.

Anybody else feel like bitching about some bullshit expenses, finances, or anything else related to not having money or getting fucked out of it?

P.S. Fuck you Bush, Fuck you Obama, Fuck you fucked up politician cock-sucking motherfuckers raping the economy and the lives of the tax-paying law-abiding citizens. Fuck your corrupted bullshit in the fucking ass. And fuck your fucking $5 gallon of milk. (thought I should add that to my rant)

EDIT: And to add to my rant:

Fuck you credit card issuing bastards for fucking advertising your shit to me everywhere and then when I actually fucking try to get a credit card deny me every fucking time. You fucking shits.
