NwN General / Problems Running NWN:EE
« on: May 08, 2020, 11:53:40 AM »
Here are a few changes I had to make to get NWN:EE to work properly on my PC:

Game is in Windowed Mode (WTF?!)
Open the file settings.tml in /Documents/Neverwinter Nights/ and find the entry [graphics.window] change the line under it from [graphics.window.windowed] to [graphics.window.fullscreen] (only the first line needs to be changed) and save it.

Toolset Crash When Loading Areas (nVidia Only)
Bring up the nVidia Control Panel by right clicking on the desktop and choose nwtoolset.exe from the Program Settings tab. (You may have to add the file manually if it doesn't appear on the drop down list.) Scroll down to Threaded Optimization and set it to "off".

Can't Join Server (UDP Error)
Still looking for my old information on port forwarding. Seems I'm having some trouble getting onto ThrobbleServ when running it on my laptop. I got it up and running at home so the information is floating around somewhere.

NWN 2 General / NWN 2 EE on Steam!
« on: April 29, 2020, 12:28:06 PM »
Just kidding.

NWN2 was such a fucking train-wreck that no one is willing to put any effort into reviving/reliving it. Sure, GoG has a "complete" version of the game but that's just a compatibility patch.

Meanwhile, not only is NWN getting a second life with an Enhanced Edition release on Steam, there is a new "official" mod for sale. Clearly, NWN 2's epic failure was fomented by a complete lack of understanding of what the NWN community was looking for in a sequel.

GodSpire General / GodSpire NWN Steam Group
« on: April 29, 2020, 12:11:33 PM »
Mercy (Yazkir) started a Steam group called "GodSpire NWN" awhile back. Join or request an invite here. (I'm not entirely sure how the group system works.)

Also, for Mercy: throbblefoot and Fogtreader didn't receive invites you sent. Not sure what's up with that but I'll see if they can request an invite.

ThrobbleServ / ThrobbleServ is Back!
« on: April 04, 2018, 12:03:07 PM »
Downloaded and installed Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition through Steam last night. Beamdog, the publisher, has enabled a server matching system similar to GameSpy. (Looks just like the old interface.)

That said: Smith Hold is back up and running!

I need to test the server to make sure people from outside our local network can access it. If anyone has the new NWN:EE please see if you can join the server.

Server: ThrobbleServ
Mod: Smith Hold
Type: Social
Current IP:

Hope to see everyone there,

Diablo III General / March Only Cow Level
« on: March 02, 2016, 12:01:25 PM »
This month only there is a special cow level accessible from a portal in the Immortal King's throne room in the Ruins of Sescheron in Act 3. A link to the article is pasted below.

EDIT: The Immortal Throne is located in a side area of the ruins called the "Elder Sanctum". Just tried out the cow level, it's relatively small but the cows are densely packed.

The man you loved to hate, dead at 61. I'm a huge pro wrestling fan and it's sad to see so many of these guys dying so young.

Computer stuff / Windows 10
« on: July 07, 2015, 08:28:32 PM »
Is Windows 10 really free? As I understand it, if you want DirectX 12 you need Windows 10. So... are there any problems people are aware of upgrading to Windows 10? (Throbble and I are both running Windows 7 64-bit.)

Diablo III General / Patch 2.3.0
« on: June 23, 2015, 06:57:01 PM »
Holy crap! Blizzard is adding a ton of new shit in 2.3.0.

Just some highlights:

New Zone: Ruins of Sescheron
In Patch 2.3.0, the frozen wasteland that is the Ruins of Sescheron will open for exploration. Here you'll face off against strange new enemies and perilous environmental hazards, all while unearthing new mysteries from the lore of the mighty Barbarians. Those brave enough to make it through in one piece will discover curious new points of interest, including the lost Tomb of King Kanai and his ultimate treasure-Kanai's Cube.

New Artifact: Kanai's Cube
Those who played Diablo II might remember the Horadric Cube, a unique device which allowed you to combine items. Useful as it was, it was easily surpassed in power by the item from which it originated, Kanai's Cube. In Patch 2.3.0, players will be able to discover this powerful ancient relic and utilize its incredible potential, including the ability to break down Legendary items and equip their special effects as passive skills (which are separate from your other passive skills), convert crafting materials from one type to another, and so much more.

Crafting System Updates
For those who eagerly gather crafting materials on their journey to level 70, we've got good news you'll especially enjoy. Starting in Patch 2.3.0, the same crafting mats you use at max level will be available as you level up! We've also crunched down the number of crafting recipes, making the process easier and more fluid than ever as your results now dynamically adjust to your character's level. Whether you're bashing skulls on the highest difficulty or have just started your career and killed your first Champion or Elite pack, your crafting mats will never go to waste.

New Difficulty Levels
As players continue to discover powerful new gear, the current hardest difficulty level-Torment VI-can begin to feel less challenging. To help keep hardened battle veterans on their toes, we're adding four new Torment levels with appropriate reward rates, including Torment X. We'll be iterating on these new difficulties and rewards as the PTR progresses, so we look forward to hearing your feedback!

More stuff and also new legendary and set items.

General Gaming / Fallout 4 Announced Today!
« on: June 03, 2015, 12:48:40 PM »
Cool video announcement of Fallout 4 at the game's site:

I loved Fallout 3 and hated Fallout: New Vegas. Thankfully it's Bethesda and not Obsidian working on this one.

Diablo III General / There is No Cow Level
« on: May 14, 2015, 01:41:48 PM »
Well, there usually is no cow level. However, from May 15-21 there will be one accessible in the Act 1 area The Wilds.

Random Ranting / Red Dwarf Seasons 11 and 12!
« on: May 03, 2015, 01:52:08 PM »

Red Dwarf series co-creator, Doug Naylor, announced that there will be a season 11 and 12 coming to Dave TV in 2016 and 2017!

For anyone that hasn't seen this show I highly recommend checking it out, starting with episode 1 of course. You can see all the episodes on Hulu.

Diablo III General / Big Head Mode

April Fools from Blizzard!

They added "Big Head Mode" to the Public Test Realm. Check out this preview:

Random Ranting / LEGO!
« on: March 15, 2015, 01:26:23 PM »
Time to talk about Legos!

Throbble and I recently bought the Lego Simpsons house (2523 bricks) and the Ghostbusters vehicle with Ghostbusters (much smaller at only 508 bricks). This summer I plan to get Scooby Do's Mystery Machine.

I also finally completed my Simpsons minifigures collection. It was kind of a pain because it's like buying baseball cards. You don't know what you're going to get until you open the package. I was able to figure a couple out by feel but I ended up with six Homers and had to buy Chief Wiggum and Nelson Muntz off EBay.

Now Lego announced that they will be releasing the Kwik-E-Mart as well as 16 new Simpsons minifigures! Sweet.

Check out these links to see pics:

Diablo III General / Patch 2.2.0
« on: February 25, 2015, 09:09:59 PM »
Here are the 2.2.0 patch notes for the Public Test Realm:

First thing on the list:

  • Regular Health Potions have been removed from the game
  • The Health Potion slot on the action bar is now a bottomless Heath Potion that will heal you for 60% of your maximum Life
  • The functionality of Legendary bottomless potions is unchanged

WTF am I supposed to do with the 1,642 Health Potions I currently have in my inventory?

General Gaming / Wolfenstein: The New Order
« on: February 15, 2015, 01:23:07 PM »
I played this game (almost) all the way through. Overall I liked thought it was really good. Very nice graphics (I have a screenshot as one of my backgrounds), cool storyline (I'll have to play through again to see what happens when I make the other decision at the beginning), and fun weapons (dual-wield assault rifles anyone?). There was also a very interesting mechanic involving a weapon called the "LaserKraftWerk", which lets you cut through chain link fences, chains, and thin metal plates.

However, the reason I say I almost finished it is because the final battle fucking sucks! It's WAY too fucking hard, especially when compared to the rest of the game. I don't mind a difficult final boss but I looked up some tips and all the forums I looked at were just lists of complaints about how the final battle ruined the game for people.

Anyway, I may try again someday, but I'll probably just play through a second time and see how the other storyline turns out. Right now I'm so pissed off at the game that I'm just going to play other shit for awhile.

Diablo III General / Ancient Items
« on: January 22, 2015, 11:01:36 AM »
Patch 2.1.2 introduced a new category of items: Ancient items. These are legendary/set items with much higher stats than their non-ancient counterparts.

Post your ancient items here so we can all bask in their glory.

(Notice the fancy gold frame around the item's property window.)

Diablo III General / Treasure Goblins Galore!
« on: January 17, 2015, 12:59:49 PM »
This weekend on the PC, PS 4, and Xbox One, all Treasure Goblins will spawn in pairs. This includes the three new goblins, Gem Hoarder (drops gems), Blood Thief (drops blood shards), Odious Collector (drops crafting materials and recipes), and Malevolent Tormentor (drops legendary and set items).

In addition to that, the 2.1.2 patch will sometimes spawn mobs of goblins. I ran into a group of one or two dozen (it was hard to count as they all ran off in different directions and I ended up getting mobbed by champs and legendary monsters).

Anyway, get out there and stomp some gobs!

Diablo III General / Patch 2.1.2

Patch 2.1.2 notes:

Just ran into a Gem Hoarder Treasure Goblin and got 63 Marquise gems and 5 Imperial gems.

General Gaming / Grim Fandango Remastered

Grim Fandango Remastered includes:

  • Repainted, hi-res character textures
  • New, dynamic lighting
  • Classic score re-recorded with a full live orchestra

  • Concept art browser

If you don't buy this, you suck.

Diablo III General / The Vault (Greed's Realm)
« on: January 12, 2015, 02:20:37 PM »
I finally got to see Greed's realm!

On very rare occasions, when you kill a Treasure Goblin, they open a portal to Greed's realm, which is an area called "The Vault". It's a relatively small area with piles of gold and some Treasure Goblins, and an end area called the "Inner Sanctum" which contains a boss called the Baroness of Greed. One thing to note is, the portal to The Vault can only be accessed by players who were in the game at the time the portal opened. (Sorry Throbble!)

At the end I had found ~3 mil gold, 13 Marquise Gems of various types, 15 Imperial Gems of various types, a legendary crusader shield, a legendary ring, and a legendary gem that only drops from Greed herself.

Here are screenshots of the start, end, and gem:

General Gaming / Overwatch
« on: November 09, 2014, 01:22:16 PM »
Blizzard announced a new title at BlizzCon this week. Overwatch is a multiplayer FPS that looks like an anime cartoon.

Considering that this is their first attempt at a FPS game, I don't expect it to be that good, but maybe they'll pull it off.

General Gaming / Torment: Tides of Numenera
« on: October 12, 2014, 02:36:44 PM »
From the makers of Wasteland 2, another isometric RPG game based on Monte Cooke's game setting which is obviously an homage to Planescape: Torment.

Check out the Torment: Tides of Numenera Pre-alpha Gameplay Video.

Diablo III General / Legendary Gems
« on: October 06, 2014, 03:29:36 PM »
I decided to test out one of the Legendary Gems that dropped for me recently. These are new items added in a recent patch (2.1?) and can only be socketed into rings and amulets.

The one I decided to test was Taeguk Link

Gain 0.5% increased damage for 3 seconds after spending primary resource. This effect stacks up to 20 times.

Gain 0.5% increased Armor for every stack. (Requires Rank 25)

I tested it by removing an Imperial Topaz (+100 Intelligence) from my cold wizard.

Here are the results:

With Imperial Topaz: 519,898 damage

With Taeguk (0 charges): 512,970 damage

With Taeguk (3 charges): 520,665 damage

With Taeguk (20 charges): 564,268 damage

It's very easy to keep the stack at 20 during battle, especially with a wizard who's resources replenish so quickly.

Conclusion: Seems like this is going to work out just fine.

General Gaming / Wasteland 2
« on: October 06, 2014, 02:04:08 PM »
Somehow I missed this game being released. It's available on Steam for $39.99. (The digital deluxe version for $59.99 comes with a bunch crap that looks totally uninteresting.) Anyway, I will probably be getting this game after I complete a half dozen other games that I need to play first.

If you are a fan of Fallout 1&2 this looks like a game for you.

Here is the trailer on YouTube:

Computer stuff / Alienware Area-51
« on: August 31, 2014, 12:42:30 PM »
Dell is making a new Alienware Area-51 gaming rig. It supports 3 graphics cards. Can you SLI more than 2 cards? The article says it can support 3 monitors but doesn't say that the graphics cards are SLI so I have no idea.

Anyway here is a pic of the new "triad" design and a link to the article:

Diablo III General / 2.1.0 Is Out and +100% Gold
« on: August 28, 2014, 01:33:50 PM »
The big patch is finally here and we got a +100% bonus gold drop. Not sure how long that will last.

Sony and are experiencing a denial of service attack from some group of fucktards so there may be connection problems. I played yesterday and had no connection issues.

I only tried my primary Demon Hunter. The added timer on Preparation/Punishment is somewhat annoying and the change to Awareness passive made me switch to Blood Vengeance, which offset the timer on Preparation a bit by giving me more overall Hatred.

Oh, and we get another stash tab to cram with all the shit we should be parting anyway!

I'll post again once I've checked out all my characters.

EDIT: Don't know how I missed this article:

To celebrate the arrival of this major content update, all players who log into Diablo III this week on Windows or Mac will not only receive a +100% bonus to Gold Find, but all Treasure Goblin spawns in the game have been doubled! (As with our previous buff, please note that the Gold Find bonus will stack multiplicatively with existing bonuses including those provided by items and Paragon points.)
This bonus Gold Find and double Treasure Goblin period begins in the Americas region today, August 26, and ends on Tuesday, September 2, at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

Diablo III General / 50% More Gold This Weekend
« on: August 23, 2014, 12:48:48 PM »
Looks like patch 2.1 will be coming out this Tuesday. To celebrate Blizzard is increasing gold drops by 50% starting yesterday (meant to post this yesterday) and ending Tuesday when maintenance begins.

Here is the official article:

Computer stuff / Looking To Buy a Gaming Laptop
« on: July 25, 2014, 12:25:12 PM »
Throbble and I have decided to get a gaming laptop for when we go out of town. I was looking at this Asus ROG 17.3" Laptop for $1,735.99.

What's everyone think?
