GodSpire General / What's your idea of a cheap build?
« on: February 11, 2005, 06:09:04 AM »
Epic Dodge is not bugged, but it is unbalanced for pvp. It is how Bioware described epic dodge in the manual that is not correct. According to the epic handbook for D&D, epic dodge should allow a person to basically (once per round) dodge the damage from a successful attack. I don't have the handbook to hand but I can quote it later whenever you see me on GodSpire. If you consider all the feats and skills required to get epic dodge: dex 25+, hide 30, tumble 30, improved evasion, defensive roll, dodge etc, and consider what each of these feats allows you to do, then the fact that you can avoid damage is not unrealistic. So for once Bioware actually coded something correctly, they just messed up the description. Whether or not they got it right is irrelevant. Assuming you are not fighting a noob, where even ed can't save them, ed is extremely unbalanced for pvp. It is flagged for this reason.

GodSpire General / Level 1 Duels
« on: February 03, 2005, 06:07:20 AM »
That's why Druids are so good. You have an animal companion (bear is overpowering to lvl 1s) and can summon a badger (also overpowering). You can cast sleep, and can also get heavy armour if you take the feat (so you get 27 ac). Druids also have 8hp base instead of 4 so they can usually take more than 1 hit.. So the tactics you have suggested have been used by me all along :D

Cough Cough Level 1, not level 3 or 6.

Besides you can get 27 ac at lvl 1

GodSpire General / Level 1 Duels
« on: January 10, 2005, 10:24:42 AM »
That's right folks, the new craze sweeping the Halls of Godspire is duels between level one characters. Started by the legendary Bus Driver, this represents the pinnacle of character creation and pvp skill.  The rules are simple: Your character must be level 1 and must use level 1 items. This means an item cost of less than 1000 GP. It's an honour system, but overpowered items become obvious (and I can do spot Inventory checks on likely honourless scum). Yes, I know some of you are thinking "Level 1? How hard can it be to make a good character? What skill? That's too easy so I wont waste my time.", but the reality is very different. Just ask Morticia:p

If you think you have what it takes, try building a level one character and show us your character building skill. Remember it is the pinnacle of pvp gaming. Each duel is guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat. The tension is almost unbearable at times. Those of a nervous disposition should stick to the safety of level 40 duels where saving throws become meaningless :D

GodSpire General / Lame?
« on: December 15, 2004, 07:55:41 PM »
I think when we tested it some time ago we found that having auto quicken 3 and haste allowed you to cast one extra spell every second round or so. I seem to remember talon and nemesis testing it out and coming to that conclusion anyway. Perhaps it has since been fixed in a patch, but I have recently duelled an autoquickened mage and found that they kept getting ahead no matter what I tried. It is particularly annoying when they  cast breach, an offensive spell and remantle in the time it takes you to cast breach and just start casting your own offensive spell :angry2:

NwN General / 1.65
« on: December 15, 2004, 07:04:41 PM »
I tried downgrading back to 1.64. GS is listed but i get that black screen whenever I try to log. Avris works fine, except when I use characters I made using 1.65. Anyways, as I said above, the upgrade for linux is available on the patch page at Bioware's site now. Hopefully when everyone has the same client all these log in problems will go away.

Well, that depends on what race your spotter has. Only elves have active spot :( , so if your spotter is non-elven you can forget spotting anything. One of the reasons I don't like hiders is they can be any race whereas only elves can spot them successfully in combat. Sure, you can use listen, but that only helps if they move :P Most hiders disappear and reappear without moving, making listen redundant.

NwN General / New Bioware NWN Adventures Available!
« on: November 11, 2004, 09:19:18 PM »
I have downloaded all three mods. So far I have played and completed the Kingmaker mod.  I really enjoyed this mod. The voiceovers were good quality and, together with the excellent  cutscenes, helped to make this mod so enjoyable.  If you chose a premade character you quickly lose most of your lvls and equipment, but for once this is handled in a believable way. The only downside is that you then struggle to kill a rat :P. (Why are all bioware's mods set for low level characters?) After the epic confrontations in the HotU campaign,, struggling to kill bands of goblins is not as appealing as it used to be:D

Hopefully bioware will release mods in the future that don't involve goblin bashing and lvl 1-8 characters.

I will now try the Shadowguard and Witch's Wake mods. First impressions are good.

Is the file in a folder? If so, move everything in the folder you want to keep somewhere safe. Then go "up" and try deleting the folder itself instead of the file.  This sometimes works for me. Good luck:p

NwN General / maxing HP
« on: October 06, 2004, 08:09:00 AM »
Nice program. although doesn't calculate RDD levels correctly. It doesn't give you 10hp from lvl 6 onwards, instead just giving you 8hp. It's easy enough to change these manually though.

GodSpire General / Xen's Experiment....
« on: September 28, 2004, 08:36:16 AM »
If you wish to form a separate group thats fine. All the things on that list are ok by themselves, its when people combine them that they become cheap. Wof is easily dispelled, as is SoV. Dev crit is not cheap, its damn expensive in terms of feats (power attack, cleave, great cleave, imp crit, overwhelming crit and 25+ str) and can be saved if you have high fortitude or 10 pale master lvls. Hiders only really profit against dex based chars, and only if they dont have uncanny dodge. Uncanny dodge is available to so many classes (SD, rogue, DD, barb etc) that many good builds will have it. Hellball is ok by itself as is harm (negative energy protection helps).

It seems that you should not stop duelling people who use any of these "cheap" things, but those that use them in special combos.

Oh, and a str fighter using ts could be considered cheap :P

Random Ranting / Doom
« on: August 16, 2004, 11:02:44 AM »
Hmm, Doom 3. Initially I thought it was really cool. Amazing graphics, atmospheric, made you jump occasionally etc, but I am getting bored already.  The main problem I have is actually the predictability. After you play for a while you can predict where monsters will spawn and how many. For example, suppose an imp spawns in front of you. You immediately know that one will spawn behind you as well.

Also, the fact that monsters keep spawning in areas you have just cleared gets really really annoying after a while. Whats the point of securing an area just for more monsters to spawn? Ok I can live with imps etc arriving as they teleport in, but where do the bloody zombies appear from? Again this makes it predictable. If a monster appears in front of you, you can be damn sure one will appear in the just cleared area behind you.

Hopefully Half Life 2 will be less predictable.

NwN General / More prestige classes
« on: August 10, 2004, 06:42:01 PM »
Just for Elessar, here is a link so you can add more prestige classes to nwn. I think its been out for a while now. Some of these prestige classes may be unbalanced for pvp but generally they seem no less insane than the ones done by Bioware. Perhaps we could include some of these. The hak is less than 2Mb.
