Yes. The Beta events will happen the first weekend of every month until the games release 3/1/05.

If you pre-order the game you get a pass code that lets you play as well as a unique item when the full version of the game is released.

Each pre-order also comes with a "Guest Pass" with a code that will allow one of your friends to participate in the Beta for one weekend only.

Yes. During character creation there is an option to begin at level 1 or 15. By default it is set at level 15.

awww, I didn't get to try from the start :(

hehe, but is there much of a difference, other then the attribute points?

Starting from 1 I think is much more beneficial. You get a better understanding of the game I think. My names as they stand now:

Lord Raelias (Warrior/Monk level 8)
Raelias Sailear (Gonna remake into Mesmer/Elementilist I think. For a different thing and wanna try Mesmer)

I only got to play for like 8 hours so getting to level 8 in 8 hours I suppose isn't bad.

While ArenaNet boasts that the levels hardly make a difference, (they simply add more strategy) you, and perhaps others, were painfully misled. I was.

Don't get me wrong, certainly you gain SOME power as you progress, but as my tale eventually gets to the point of, Levels do, in truth, add stupendous power.

During the beta I had my guild create new characters -- for the purpose of friendly competition (who can reach lvl 20 fastest?) and to try out new classes, and be better skilled.

Sunday night we unknowingly placed ourselves in the crucible. Aside from our weapons and armor being less than satisfactory, (we all had equipped a full set of our lvls10+ armor at the time) we quickly realized that when playing against another guild who had all lvl 20 henchmen/players (with their fine plate armor) we were at a critical disadvantage.

The opposing guild had only 2 real players (2 warriors, plus 4 henchmen) against my guild's 6 players, plus a monk and warrior Henchman. They should have had the difficulties that henchmen naturally have -- getting stuck, being stupid, not healing -- we quickly lost our Guild Hall to them, regardless of our guild skill and cooperative efforts. While we have not had our heads served to us on a platter, we were hardly a match. For the sake of credibility, we had made it to the 6th PvP map a few hours prior, but deleted our old (lvl 20) characters and transfered the items to the new ones -- so it wouldnt be whiped next month.

Point is, albeit lengthy and not-to-the-point, Different levels make a world of difference, hugely because of the armor you are able to equip, the weapons being weilded, the skills used (none of us had access to Denravi), the energy you gain, and the amount of hitpoints you aquire

So what did you do MageRender? Is there actually a way to fight vs other people in that game? Ah outside in exploring areas I would guess. Nice I never thought of that. That strengthens my want for the game heh. Before I had just thought it a nice game to adventure with friends and become strong and nice story plot. But looks like I'm gonna have to beef up for PvPing too O.o.

You can fight other people by either going to the Gladiator Ring -- randomly assigned groups of 8

go to the Primeval Tombs -- create/join a group of 8

or go to your Guild Hall -- up to 8 players, henchmen available. You can choose to challenge another guild, or simply do a random battle with another guild.

beginning at lvl 1 sounds better to me because the rings to permanently learn charms, omg I want some of those. Found 1 mesmer and 1 for ranger....none for my precious mage.
Title: Post Guild Wars Character Names Here!
Post by: Raelias on November 08, 2004, 05:44:28 PM
What exactly do those rings do anyways? LoL I found one for the elementalist and heard they were really good. Well I heard Throbble was an elementalist so I decided to be nice and give her mine. She seemed grateful I suppose. Alot of people screamed at me for doing that cause a few were trying to get it from me. What exactly do the rings do anyways?

well I found out that after I'd bought all the spells I could get from the simple trainer guy that you can get super spells way better then those! and I found lots of evil spells with great dmg at the charm trader.

So if your an elementalist you can buy a charm and double click the ring then cklick on the charm to permanently learn the spell. I bought a good staff for 110 gold, that ring, worth lots more!

Post by: Raelias on November 08, 2004, 05:54:27 PM
Whoa where is this... Charm Trader? Probably farther down the road on more "advance missions" I think I am currently at the Alpine Tableau which has a nice new clothing styles which I will enjoy buying. All I need is 6 more Iron Ingots and I can buy an entire inventory which should help. Just 2 more levels!

actually it's in lions arch simple stuff. I did have a mesmer ring, well I do. Damndest thing is that the mesmer hasn't got any new things he can get from the charms, nothing you can't get from the normal trainer

Denravi -- city adjacent to the last mission also had some semi-elite skills in that 'city' in addition to lvl 20+ armor.

There was also a skill trainer in the solo region off Lion's Arch. Sage Lands I think it is called)

Post by: Raelias on November 08, 2004, 05:59:44 PM
Ya can't you get to the Lion's Arch from the Alpine Tableau? I remember people yelling out like "NEED WARRIOR TO GET TO LION'S ARCH! ONLY HAVE HOUR AND HALF LEFT!" or something along that line. I can't wait till I get to Lion's Arch. Sounds like everything good is there >.<.

I heard that the people trying to get to Kryta via the Alpine solo area suffered crashes upon entering.

If you have the time, there is an alternate solution.
From the Alpine Tableu explore area, there is a pass that leads to another coop mission: Kree Foothills, after that is FrostGate, followed by the Kryta Gates mission. Difficult to get to, but possible. While doing the first 2 snow missions mentioned above, you get the option to kill a Snow Dragon and the King Griffon -- each netting 500xp once dead.

So your telling me your able to kill a Snow Dragon and Griffon seperate for a total of 1k exp? Killer! O.o. You and me Render... we seriously gotta team up. Or let me get your name so I can bug you by whispering you questions a whole bunch like I did 420. =). Also your gonna have to tell me better instructions on how to get to Lion's Arch and those 500 exp things later.

I have an idea, start as lvl 15 :P

I must really have missed a lot damnit. I just did a toturial and went straight to lions arch, damn that's sad :(

Oh.. I've gone through a whole shitload of missions just to get to Alpine Tableau LoL. I'm thinking of making a 15 too just to look at what I have ahead of me. But maybe not. Also what exactly does the Mesmer class have for skills and do?
Title: Post Guild Wars Character Names Here!
Post by: Blood Angel on November 08, 2004, 06:34:52 PM
mesmer is like an anti mage and pretty advanced class, I like it because I have it for my mage so I'm mage and anti :P. tho there aren't a lot of skills for that class I think. eather feast, you burn 5 energy from the opponent and atm I get 16 hp per energy point burned so that's really kewl

and btw, don't go lvl 15, cuz I've just found out why I never got the hang of what I was doing in that place, I never knew what I was supposed to do, just went into those areas and killing.... for whatever reason :(

Hook up eh? Stop by my guild forum board at www.magussyndicate.com, assuming that you are interested in joining a guild -- 14 members strong during the WPE, some were interested during the beta -- we are 17 now.

Correct, those two sidequests yield 1,000 exp for the monster encounter alone. The Ice Dragon (drake actually) dropped 17 hides, almost as many scales, and a rare storm artifact energy +9. Just an FYI.

If I had my map handy, then I could tell you exactly where to go, but alas, it is lost to the servers of Guild Wars now. The main direction after entering the Alpine Tableu explore area was North to get to the next coop missions.

There are about 7 missions to get to Lions Arch, all of which must be started via a lvl 1 (maybe 15, didnt try it) cahracter. I suggest a level one. But after getting to the Wilds Map with my lvl 13 Elementalist, its impossible to get into a group except when I am able to summon guildmates... so there really isnt a rush.

when in lions arch you'll get used to hearing ppl yell HIDES WTB HIDES! omg ppl need hides for everything and yet there are none!
Title: Post Guild Wars Character Names Here!
Post by: MageRender on November 08, 2004, 06:45:08 PM
Last night at about 1am Central (11:00 pacific, one hour until beta ends) people were under the impression that ALL of their characters were going to get whiped from the server.

In the frenzy that followed, people were selling everything left and right for dirt cheap. One person in Lions Arch was even selling cloth bolts for 5gp a peice (worth 20).

Needless to say, im now filthy rich AND have tons of cloth/hides to get my lvl 20 Elementalist 'robes'.

holy shit, that's the most awesome thing ever!

I once went to check the hide price at the market and as a common item it cost 260gp for 10 lol, ppl really wanted in on that deal
Title: Post Guild Wars Character Names Here!
Post by: MageRender on November 08, 2004, 07:07:59 PM
Yeah. By Sunday the vendors seemed to have been bugged -- they were selling black dye for 267gp, silver for 120ish, red for 40, and other crafting items were seemingly high as well -- 27gp for a stack of 10 bones.  ;)
Title: Post Guild Wars Character Names Here!
Post by: Blood Angel on November 08, 2004, 07:16:30 PM
well isn't that when ppl keep on buying that there are less off these wares and the price goes up? that's what I'd say is making the prices change
Title: Post Guild Wars Character Names Here!
Post by: MageRender on November 08, 2004, 07:23:32 PM
if people are willing to pay greadually rising prices like that then it's possible, but if everyone was like myself, then they would just hoard their cash until they could find the absolute cheapest prices available.

Little clarification for everyone:

The open Beta (2 weeks ago) started you at level 15 and you went through a short tutorial ending at Lion's Arch.

The 1st closed Beta (last weekend) gave you a choice of beginning at level 1 or 15. The Guild Wars admins put up a message requesting that people start at level 1 for the purpose of testing the lower level builds. Whether you chose 1 or 15 it started you off in Ascalon.

People who played the open beta still had their high level characters in the Lion's Arch and beyond areas and some worked their way backwards to get the Ascalon during the closed Beta. Those players raked in the big bucks selling dyes and crafting materials to all the new players.

Also, your name must be at least 2 words and contain only letters.

Hope that clears a few things up,

-420
