If you read past the first paragraph, you'd read:
"On April 25, 2003, Judge Stephen J. Wilson of the United States District Court for the Central District of California ruled in favor of Streamcast Networks, Inc. and Grokster, Limited, distributors of peer-to-peer software which functions similarly to Kazaa, in a summary judgment concluding that such peer-to-peer software and its distribution is legal."
Nevertheless, it's like those semi-automatic --> fully automatic conversion kits: it's legal to own one, it is illegal to use it.

Just to help clear up the issue of CD Cracks, since a lot of people seem confused about whether it's legal or not.
I quote NWN's end-user license agreement (yes I do read them). Pay close attention to what is in the parenthesis.
"Software" shall mean the game, toolkit, and all other software contained on this disc or cartridge, all updates and/or patches thereto, any accompanying documentation, all on-line components, restricted-access NEVERWINTER NIGHTS community websites, and other BioWare or Infogrames game-related services (including all CD-authentication components).
and
You may not decompile, modify, reverse engineer, disassemble or otherwise reproduce the Software.
Hope that clears things up.

Basically, it is illegal to modify the CD-authentication, which is what a crack does.

i'm bored so heres another...
Is burning a CD for yourself legal or illegal?

Technically, if you burn a copywritten CD (ie published by a legally established company) it is for backup purposes only. The actual information on your CD can only be installed on one computer at a time , hence the reason for the CD Key and CD authentication.
I can go into much more detail, but basically the software companies are both covering their asses legally in case some 3rd party software breaks their product AND giving themselves room to bring legal action against the end-user for the even the smallest infractions.
-420
well that was fast!
you can burn CDs for yourself, as back-up purposes only!

Not only that, but you can put your original game CD in storage and use the copied CD instead. I recommend this as standard practice to everyone since blank CDs and CD burners are so cheap now. There is no reason to ever risk wear and tear on your original programs CDs, just make copies and use them until they get scratched, broken or lost. (hint hint Elessar)
-420
Actually the practice of burning perenol copies is (stupidly) still not legal in the old U.S. of A.

D'oh, well that shows me! Like I said in the politics thread, people only follow the laws they want to anyway. I think partially because there are SO MANY laws we can't ever possibly follow them all.
Laws primarily exist so corporations have an excuse to fuck with the consumer.
-420
legal or not?
running a yellow light
turning right on a red light

Don't know about other states/countries but...
California Driver's Handbook 2004
YellowÃ????A yellow signal light means Ã????CAUTION.Ã???? The red signal is about to appear. When you see the yellow light, you should stop if you can do so safely. If you canÃ????t stop, watch for vehicles that may enter the intersection when the light changes.
Red - A red signal light means Ã????STOP.Ã???? You can make a right turn against a red light after you stop and yield to pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles that are close enough to be a hazard. Do not make the right turn until you can turn safely. DO NOT turn if there is a sign posted for Ã????NO TURN ON RED.Ã????
lol geez 420 do you read everything that comes under your nose? lol

To quote Bill Hicks: "I'm a reader."
Yes, not only do I read every single post on this forum, I also read everything else that I come across. Books, pamphlets, signs, shirts, newspapers, magazines, graffiti, tattoos and messages shaved into peoples heads.

Burning down your grandmothers house, Legal or Illegal.

Legal in countries except all countries except ones that allow it.
heres one:
Bit Torrent(Bitorrent? i dunno how you really spell it)
my friend was talking about it at scouts and he said he didnt know if it was legal or not

"BitTorrent - allows users to download a file from multiple different people, rather than a central location."
There are quite a few programs like this, none of which are currently illegal (I think). It's basically a way around the law that brought down Napster.
