Title: D&D Online: Eberron Unlimited
Post by: Mo on June 11, 2009, 05:00:19 PM
Speaking of which:

Quote
On June 9 2009, ddonline.com announced that Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach will be free to play (F2p) for All in US but will not be f2p in Europe. The name will be changed to Dungeons & dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited. The level cap will be increased to level 20 and Free users will have full "unlimited" access. As for new subscribers or old subscribed players, there will be VIP access that contains additional all-new features available for them. Closed beta registration opened on June 9 2009 and the game and contents will be free to download, just like a free-to-play mmorpg

DnD online is really hard though. You can NOT level alone and all that jazz. I played for a little less than a month lol.

Well now that it will be free we can all play together!

They also made the mistake of making it Eberron and not FR.

Well further on the Stormreach topic.  It seems their idea of "unlimited" access differs from mine.  Free accounts don't get access to all races or classes and most troubling it seems like most of areas will be off-limits.

And you get only two characters per account. :(  You have to purchase most upgrades....

Two accounts is not the end of the world.  Well I will give it a shot anyway.  Maybe I'll create a character on Saturday.

Ok so it looks like the Free version is currently in closed beta.

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=184786

We'll have to wait a little bit for this still.

The site says you can buy more character slots for an account.  I signed up for the beta, but with priority to people already paying to play I probably won't get in.

Saw this last week:
No free-to-play model for Dungeons and Dragons Online in Europe (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/no-free-to-play-model-for-dungeons-and-dragons-online-in-europe)

Cons:

1. It's set in Eberron

2. The graphics are about the same quality as NWN

3. It's set in Eberron

4. Europeans are getting the shaft (can they even play with NA?)

5. It's set in Eberron

6. See number 1

I can't think of any pros other than the free demo (which is what it sounds like with all the restrictions for "free play").

Whoops, I forgot to make my point (I hadn't had any alcohol at that hour).

My point is that any builder in NWN can already fulfill all the roles of D&D online with a better setting, equivalent graphics, and no international limitations.

Indeed.  My first MMO experience with NWN was on a server called Toril Online..  With one DN we had a mod with Waterdeeo and surrounding  areas, Skullport,, Undermountain, Underdark,Abyss,Demonweb pitts etc.  Just a wealth of content.  He even had undead PCs.  All kinds of guilds, Zhents, Knights of Waterdeep, Sunites.  I have yet to find an online RP experience to equal it.  That was the work of one man and 2 years.

Im from EU but i played a free 7 day trial on the US server that actually said "for US only" and i didnt have any connection or lag issue, though its true you CANT lvl alone :p, i got to like lvl 9 but playing alone having to look for parties everytime isnt that good. But yeah the game is so close to nwn at least that made it kinda fun.

They didnt even register ips or anything... i remember i played the 7 day trial twice, just by registering another account :o... that was a few years ago after GS kinda died ><.

I wonder if they will still let me play in the free version lol.

I got re-addicted to GW ugh.  The Eye of the North expansion is actually quite good (very PvE focused).  Now I'm obsessed with filling up my Hall of Monuments for GW2.

Well I'm on a lot these days so if you decide to play let me know and I'll get you in the guild.  There's so much to do there, especially if you have all the expansions.  Granted some of the things I'm doing, maxing titles for example involve a lot of grind work, but it's still fun!

nah i got bored pretty much cos of the craappy server system, since im from EU im stuck on the eu servers unless i go to the worldwide one (unless they changed it now) though i doubt ill play again anyways.

I checked on DDO and it let me subscribe for the closed beta but doubt ill get any invite... so guess ill have to wait till 6th august to know if i can play or not... if i can ill play for sure! i miss my midget bards! xD

I dunno did I?  Maybe that was before I got EoTN and the Hall of Monuments.
