If you got an hour and twenty minutes to kill this is worth checking out: Google Wave Developer Preview at Google I/O 2009 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_UyVmITiYQ)
Throbble says it's going to make a lot of people's jobs obsolete (including hers).

That's pretty cool but it sucks that it is gonna take jobs away. Especially Throbbles. :(

Sorry didn't have the hour 20 yet free. How is this going to replace jobs?

Watch it. I promise it will hypnotize you into being a consumer zombie. Really.
No, seriously though it's really hard to describe what it is since the video is basically a product demo.
But check this out, though I fear it doesn't do it justice: About Google Wave (http://wave.google.com/help/wave/about.html) linked from the main site http://wave.google.com/

So I'm about 1 hour into it. What jobs would this replace? What does Throbble do? :P
Seems like a really cool communication and collaboration tool. The main problem I have with those kind of applications are that they seem to be very complex (Sharepoint etc). Wave seems very simple to use.

Does this have anything to do with Microsoft's new search engine being released?

What does Throbble do?
Lead technical writer for an open-source software company. Basically, many tasks that used to require a professional "middle-man" will now be automated.
Does this have anything to do with Microsoft's new search engine being released?
Nope. (According to Throbble. I didn't even know MS was working on a new search engine.)

They weren't. They just purchased one. In fact they purchased two. bing.com and something else can't quite remember...the second one is a fancy wikipedia indexer.
Anyway, no one will take out Google in search unless someone re-invents search, which bing has not done. Google is looking to re-invent email with Wave.

Not reinvent, replace: email, IM, forums, wikis, bug tracking software and social networking sites.

Yup, nothing I use.
