Title: D&D 4th Edition?
Post by: 420 on August 16, 2007, 02:00:41 PM
Some sort of weird splash page with a countdown appeared on WotC's D&D site yesterday. Could this be the long awaited/feared release of 4th edition rules?

25 minutes to go! It seems that they have already put out a press release. This is indeed D&D 4th edition.

I wonder how Obsidian feels about their expansion's rule set being out of date before it is released.

Well, that was a cruel way for them to announce the end of D&D:

Ok, looks like D&D isn't defunct after all. Can't WotC do anything right?

Are they *trying* to run people away from their game? All their customer base wants is to play D&D, and every time they turn around, the rules and history suddenly change, often with no real explanation.

They're cracking up, I tell you....

Here is the revised, female-free WotC version of D&D history. Nothing like bashing the products you are currently trying to sell to improve customer relations.

It sounds like that but if you watch closely you'll see that they are revising D&D history and saying it has always just been about attacking trolls with swords. If that's all they think D&D is all about I fear for the future of the game.

EDIT: Ha ha ha, WotC's official site is now relying on youtube to serve their videos. Fucking amateurs, how did a successful company like WotC end up with such a shitty IT Department?

EDIT EDIT: Little PM I sent to a WotC forum Mod:
Quote
I understand that the thread about no women being represented in the 4th Edition trailer was going off-topic but I think you should consider the message you are sending to the community by requesting that the subject be dropped.

Just take a look at the comments posted about the 4th Edition Trailer on YouTube (where WotC's official D&D site currently points) and you'll find people complaining about the lack of females. By choosing to ignore this subject you are just perpetuating the idea that females are being alienated by the D&D community and WotC in general.

The people that don't wish to discuss this issue are the ones starting the spam war and by locking the thread you are doing exactly what they want, ignoring the legitimate complaints of the D&D community.

Thanks for your time,

I bet they will. Or, at least, not listen.

I'm confused about the grappling. We use the books as a guide line so why was there such a heavy emphasis on them?
I think maybe they are targeting just that group in the video, those players, like the guys I play with, that have been running the same game for 20 years.  They haven't spent a dime on D&D products in 15+ years.

It's a commercial.

More of WotC's vileness:
Quote
Q: Dear Sage
Will I be able to convert my favorite character to 4th Edition?

A: We learned the hard way with 3rd Edition that accurate conversion really doesn't work. Thus, we're encouraging everyone to start at 1st level and learn the new system from the ground up.

While you'll certainly be able to reinvent many existing characters with the new system, there's no way a conversion guide could adequately cover the vast array of options that have been published over the lifespan of the game.

We'll eventually revisit many favorite parts of the previous edition, and along the way we'll also explore plenty of new territory as well.
Seems to me that they didn't learn shit.

Well no, as long as adventurers cut off the arms of trolls, they grow into trolls.
