Bill Gates has tons now that he sold Microsoft.

lol he didn't sell Microsoft. That's just crazy talk.
But we probably we wouldnt be having this discussion and we probably wouldnt be playing online computer games the way we do now had it not been for microsoft.
Cannixxxx, seriously, put down the crack pipe and go get some fresh air.

Its such an easy thing to point and laugh at microsoft, its become an E-Culture. But what people dont realise is what microsoft have done for the computer world deserves the utmost respect. Sure theres some buggy ass software. But we probably we wouldnt be having this discussion and we probably wouldnt be playing online computer games the way we do now had it not been for microsoft. Dont forget way back the owner of IBM said therd only ever be a need for 3 computers in the world. Microsoft took computers and commercialised them.
I mean lets look at microsoft windows operating system, you may criticise it, but how would you react if someone asked you to produce a piece of software thats compatibile with any piece of software, with any piece of hardware that is easy to use and user friendly, that is reliable fast and capable of millions of different actions and re actions. Bill gates imo is a genius and he deserves every coin of money hes got.

I totally aggree with Canix all what he says here is true I mean sure Windows has some bugs, but wich program doesn't many games come out with bugs too....and for example on my pc I have windows XP home edition and I have my pc for about 3 years now and in those 3 years I maybe had 3 bluescreens wich required to reboot my pc...oh and I still haven't formated my hdd
Anyways Bill puted the basics for the computer Linux and all the other operating systems just designed a operating system that's more stable, trust me if Windows wasn't invented neither would Linux be.
For me Windows is quite a good operating system, but that's my opinion...
P.S. I just posted that video cuz it's funny to see bills face when the dude said "we invented it but bill made it famous"
For me Bill Gates is a hero and no that's not a joke...
software thats compatibile with any piece of software, with any piece of hardware hes got.

Good post. However the above quote is wrong. It is up to the software engineers to make software and drivers compatible with Windows. They do so because Windows is what the vast vast majority of computers run.
The vast vast majority of computers run Windows, because Microsoft is the only company on Earth who knows how to market an operating system to the masses. Right now it's way too late for another company to attempt to compete with MS in the OS industry. Apple, only now has a slight chance to take some market share from MS since moving to an Intel based platform. Mac OS now has the possibility to be installed on any x86 based machine, which is the same market MS currently dominates. Now people just need a good reason to install Mac OS over Windows that over-shadows the reason not to. That is the fact that Mac OS runs 1% the software that Windows runs.
Check your stuff Cannixxx, I was watching the news the other night and Bill was on and they were talking about him selling microsoft.
Oh and by the way, I have no problem with Microsoft. My XP has never bluescreened or crashed once.

Funny, that's the year Microsoft has been forced to support Windows 98 to by the international courts.
If Bill Gates hadn't done all these "great" things, then someone better or worse would have. =)

I'm confused, are you saying that stealing other people's technology and claiming it's your invention are both great things and something someone else would have done if Bill Gates didn't?
That is simply not true, it takes an exceptionally evil person to do the things Bill Gates did. He is a thief and a liar and he has apparently been able to convince some people that Microsoft developed all it's own technology.
I won't say who posted this quote or where but I think it's about time to post it here:
"I'm constantly astonished that so few people connect thier computer security problems to Micrsoft as the source. If Microsoft had been responsible for building the New Orleans levy system, the city would be under 30 feet of water right now, and its residents would be paddling around in row boats blamming a lack of umbrellas for thier situation. Microsoft, of course, would be busy selling everyone umbrellas at a premium, vilifying water and promising to fix the situation with a new levy system composed of a 30-mile-diameter sealed concrete dome that nothing can get in or out of- especially the evil culprit, water! Meanwhile the residents would be saying,"Well, it beats living in a row boat, and nobody else is doing anything about it," while forgetting that they paid Microsoft to build the levies that failed in the first place and not contemplating the obsurdity of living in a sealed dome becuase compared to their current situation it would be an improvement."

Bill Gates is more successful than anyone posting on this forum will *ever* be

That depends entirely on what your idea of success is.

@Throbble It's more likely for someone on this forum to be successful, than it is for you to know that they have become successful, assuming they did.
Ok, I'll leave this topic now, as English goes to advanced level.

You were in this topic before that post at all?
The story of Bill Gates should be required reading in high school.

That is a horrible idea. I watched his Biography and was bored out of my mind, I think I ended up sleeping though most of it. The Biography of Cernal Sanders, Dave Thomas, and Sam Walton were MUCH more interesting and informative.

He may be the richest man in the world but i bet i can own his nub ass at unreal tournament.
Nope 420, you completely misunderstood what I said. I don't know where I said anything at all about stealing technology!? I was simply saying, if Bill Gates hadn't revolutionized the computer industry, it is very likely someone else would have, perhaps in a different way, and may have done a worse or better job of it.

I seem to be confusing you in quite a few threads, sometimes it's hard to pick up on the subtler sarcasm that I tend to use to get my point across.
What I was trying to say was that the only thing Bill Gates revolutionized was stealing the intellectual property of others and using it to become the richest man in the world.

Oh. Well, I wasn't actually saying he did anything great, or revolutionalized anything, I was playing off of Cannixx's post with sarcasm, but also pointing out that someone would have done something similiar to the computer industry, if Bill Gates had not. So you're comment is indirectly towards Cannixx rather than myself.

I meant by ones' own idea, of course. By Bill Gates's idea of success, no one here will ever be as successful. It's the closest thing I've seen to a statistical impossibility since Cher won an Oscar. I'll admit I'm wrong next time Warren Buffet hands one of us $37 billion.
But by your definiton, Talon? Only Belog knows.....

I still say Bill Gates is an exceptional case, someone else may have tried to do what he did but he is truly a king among thieves.

The idea of a nonprofit cherity with 50 BILLION dollars to donate to good causes is a great thing, but I dont know if I would trust Bill Gates with it.
It has come from the way they have dominated a market of operating systems and software directed at average joe which no one was really doing before.

There's still other choices. It is not yet a monopoly. If you want to see a monopoly, take a look at some things the government has control of, like schooling.

There's a huge difference between a monopoly and the fact that everyone only wants to buy or only knows to buy one product. There's nothing illegal about being in an industry which has almost an infinitely large barrier of entry.

Except when you steal the intellectual property of other companies and use it to drive that company out of business. Rinse and repeat. That's Bill Gate's mantra.

I dont know much about Bill Gates, or Microsoft.
But how did he steal intellectual property from a company(my understanding is thats illegal), and why was he not sued big time for it?

Still doesn't make it a monopoly. There are other competitors.
But how did he steal intellectual property from a company(my understanding is thats illegal), and why was he not sued big time for it?

He has been sued multiple times by many companies, but he has enough money to pay them off.
Just a few examples:
-Word's spell check is actually a program called Grammatix, which was a 3rd party Windows 3.0 Word Perfect grammar checker.
-Anyone who used Norton Utilities before Windows 95 will recognize Window's disk defragentation progam.
-MS-DOS was an illegally altered and sold IBM operating system.
The list goes on and on but only us real old PC techs remember all the convoluted legal battles that Microsoft was able to tie these poor companies up in. However, some of us will never forget.
Just like the Hell's Angels, Microsoft can claim to be reformed and honest now but that doesn't excuse them from their past sins against humanity.

Everyone loves a good thief.

Only thieves and cheaters think that way. Bill Gates hurt society because his status and "success" have caused some people think what he did was fine, morally and economically. I may be an American but it doesn't mean I condone my county's complete lack of morals when it comes to business practices and politics.
